Duke vs. Louisville score: Big second half helps Blue Devils capture program's 23rd ACC Tournament title

No. 1 seed Duke won three games in three days in Charlotte, North Carolina this week to capture the 2025 ACC Tournament championship for the 23rd time in program history and first since 2023. Duke defeated No. 8 seed Georgia Tech, No. 5 seed North Carolina and No. 2 seed Louisville in its run to the title, punctuated with a 73-62 win over Louisville on Saturday night.

Louisville came out swinging early and led by five at halftime, matching Duke's largest halftime deficit of the season after also trailing by five against Georgia Tech two days prior. But just as it did against the Yellow Jackets, the Blue Devils blew it open in the second half with a 40-24 scoring advantage over the final 20 minutes.

Duke's ability to run away with it late was a credit to both its offensive and defensive units alike. On offense, Tyrese Proctor, Sion James and Kon Knueppel combined for 32 points in the second half -- outscoring the entire Louisville team on their own -- while going 8 of 16 shooting from the field. On defense, Patrick Ngonba had three blocks and Khaman Maluach had two, several of which shifted the momentum Duke's direction.

Duke won the ACC Tournament championship in the first year of Jon Scheyer's tenure in 2022-23 but was bounced in the second round last year. This season has provided all the ACC hardware for the third-year coach, who led Duke to an outright ACC title last week and helped bring home a second ACC tourney title in three years Saturday.

Is it your year to win the bracket pool? You won't know if you don't play! Enter your March Madness® brackets today to compete with friends and for prizes!

With the win, Duke, which finished the regular season as the No. 1 team in the AP Top 25 poll, enters Selection Sunday as a lock to be a No. 1 seed when the committee unveils its 68-team bracket. Should that happen, it will be the first time Duke has earned a 1-seed under Scheyer and program's first since 2018-19 -- when it advanced to the Elite Eight before falling by one point to Michigan State.

Duke wins ACC Tournament title

FINAL: Duke 73, Louisville 63

No Cooper Flagg for Duke?

No problem.

With Duke's Player of the Year frontrunner in street clothes, the No. 1 seed Blue Devils downed No. 2 seed Louisville on Saturday night at the ACC Tournament championship, 73-62, to capture its 23rd ACC Tournament title and first since 2023.

The Blue Devils got big games from its backcourt to make up for the absence of its star with Kon Knueppel and Tyrese Proctor turning in 19 and 18 points, respectively. Point guard Sion James also had a big night with two dimes and six boards to go with 15 points.

Duke's bigs stepped up in, well, a big way, too. Khaman Maluach scored the first four points of the night and finished with eight, but he was a monster on the glass (10 rebounds) and active as the defensive anchor to boot -- finishing with two blocks.

Duke finished the regular-season as the No. 1 team in the AP Top 25 poll and will enter Selection Sunday — having won the ACC regular-season title and ACC Tournament title — as a lock to be a No. 1 seed when the bracket is released tomorrow.

Duke riding 12-0 run

11:08, 2H: Duke 57, Louisville 47

An out-of-nowhere 12-0 Duke run has the Blue Devils up 10 — its largest lead of the game — after trailing by five at halftime. This run has been classic Duke, as Tyrese Proctor nailed a big 3, Patrick Ngongba had a momentum-changing swat and Sion James has nailed a pair of big shots from deep.

Knotted at 45

U16 timeout: Louisville 45, Duke 45

Duke has bounced back out of the halftime intermission and tied things up with the Cardinals at 45-all. Blue Devils so far are settling for jumpers and not getting downhill — which thus far has worked with Duke making two of its three 3s in the first five minutes of second-half action.

Duke's big problem right now is stopping Terrence Edwards Jr. — or at least finding some way to slow him. He had 15 in the first half and is already up to seven points in the second half. He's been a tough defensive assignment with Duke missing Cooper Flagg's length and versatility.

Louisville leading Duke at the break

Halftime: Louisville 38, Duke 33

No. 1 seed Duke trails by five at halftime of the ACC Tournament championship game vs. No. 2 seed Louisville-- matching its largest halftime deficit of the season. Louisville held Duke to just 33 points and forced seven first-half turnovers.

"We started stringing some stops together," Louisville coach Pat Kelsey said on ESPN at the break. "You just gotta dominate possession by possession.

Cardinals star Terrence Edwards Jr. played like a fire-breathing dragon in the first half and has 15 points entering the break. Chucky Hepburn has seven points and three assists.

Duke and Louisville battling early

U12 timeout: Duke 17, Louisville 15

We're just over eight minutes into the ACC Tournament finale and already we've seen five lead changes in what appears to be a brewing battle between two ACC heavyweights. Duke is on top as we enter the U12 media timeout as freshman Isaiah Evans is leading the way with six points after draining a pair of triples. Kon Knueppel and Khaman Maluach each have four.

Louisville star Chucky Hepburn is doing Chucky Hepburn things to keep the Cards apace. He has seven points on four shots early just two days removed from draining the game-winner vs. Stanford.

Five things to know for Duke-Louisville

The final game to wrap five days of ACC Tournament is set for 8:30 p.m. ET tonight between Duke and Louisville.

Here's five things to know as the two prepare for battle.

1. Louisville is playing in its first ACC Tournament title game in program history (!) Saturday night. Friday was its first-ever ACC Tournament semifinals game appearance. It defeated Clemson 76-73.

2. Saturday marks Duke's 36th appearance in the ACC Tournament title game. It is 22-13 in its last 35 appearances.

3. Louisville enters Saturday with an 11-game winning streak and with wins in 21 of its last 22 games. Duke has won 10-straight entering tonight and 26 of its last 27 games.

4. Duke has won nine of the last 12 meetings vs. Louisville — including six-straight.

5. Duke leads the ACC in both scoring offense (83.0) and scoring defense (61.9) and could become the first team in ACC history to lea the league in both categories.

Odds, lines for ACC Tournament finale

Unsurprisingly, No. 1 seed Duke -- even without star freshman Cooper Flagg last game and this game -- is a betting favorite entering tonight's contest. But oddsmakers expect based on the matchup that this one could be within a few possessions.

Here's where things stand.

  • Duke (-6) vs. Louisville
  • Over/under: 147

Duke leads college basketball in scoring margin this season at 21.1

It has also been nails as a favorite this season against the spread with a 20-12-0 overall record, per TeamRankings.com data. Louisville, meanwhile, has not been an underdog very many times this season but has been even better in such situations against the spread with a 6-1-0 overall record against the spread as a dog.

One game to crown a champion

Four days of fabulous basketball at the ACC Tournament has lead to this: No. 1 seed Duke vs. No. 2 seed Louisville for all the marbles.

Game is set to tip at 8:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.

Duke nearly blew a 24-point lead Friday in the semis vs. UNC before being bailed out by a bone-headed lane violation to win 74-71.

Louisville also advanced by the same margin over No. 3 seed Clemson in the late game Friday led by Terrence Edwards' 21 ppoints, eight boards and three dimes.

Louisville clinches ACC title game appearance with win over Clemson

FINAL: Louisville 76, Clemson 73

The final game of the night provided more drama. Louisville led by 15 points with 3:28 to play before Clemson turned up the heat, forced turnovers and made shots. Clemson had a chance to tie the game on its final possession, but star Chase Hunter missed and Louisville held on for a 76-73 win.

In two seasons under former coach Kenny Payne, Louisville -- a once proud program -- was seen as the laughingstock of the conference. Then, the program hired Pat Kelsey to turn things around. Kelsey was hired less than 12 months ago, and his impressive roster construction resulted in a berth in the ACC title game.

Louisville will face Duke, who will be playing without star forward Cooper Flagg, for the ACC crown. Duke is pretty much locked into a No. 1 seed heading into Selection Sunday, but a win for Louisville in the ACC title game would certainly help its case to be seeded higher.

UNC's comeback comes up short

North Carolina's furious comeback against Duke in the ACC Tournament semifinals came up short after Jae'lyn Withers committed a lane violation on teammate Ven-Allen Lubin's successful second free throw attempt — which had it counted, would've tied the game at 72.

Although Lubin made the second free throw, the basket didn't count because Withers stepped into the paint before the shot was released, a clear violation of the rules.

Duke holds off UNC in wild finish

FINAL: Duke 74, UNC 71

North Carolina's last best chance to impress the NCAA Tournament selection committee ahead of Selection Sunday fell flat in a wild ACC Tournament semifinal game in Charlotte that saw Duke build a 24-point lead ... and then nearly blow it after a furious comeback attempt down the stretch from the Tar Heels.

UNC got within one point in the final minute of play, but a potential game-tying free throw with 4.1 seconds remaining was waved off because of a lane violation on the Tar Heels.

Even without the services of star Blue Devils freshman Cooper Flagg, Duke trampled the Tar Heels out of the gate, but UNC responded with a wild rally in the second half to nearly come all the way back.

Blue Devils freshman co-star Kon Knueppel stepped up in a big spot with a team-high 17 points in the win, and Sion James, Khaman Maluach and Tyrese Proctor were all productive in their roles, too. But it was Duke's defense -- a staple of its success this season -- that powered it to a third win over UNC in a 42-day span. It's the first sweep by the Blue Devils -- and the first in either side of the rivalry -- since 2001-02.

Case in point: Duke held UNC to 3 of 17 shooting from 3-point range, forced 12 turnovers and scored 17 points off those turnovers.

Jerry Palm had North Carolina as one of the last four teams out of his projected field going into the day and was skeptical even a win over a wounded Duke team would be enough to impress the selection committee.

Duke, meanwhile, advances into Saturday's ACC title game where it will face the winner of Louisville-Clemson. That game will tip at 8:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.

Duke rolling without Flagg

HALF: Duke 45, UNC 24

No Cooper Flagg for No. 1 seed Duke has thus far been no problem as Duke takes a commanding 21-point lead into halftime. Blue Devils got 12 first-half points from freshman Kon Knueppel and were great defensively, holding the Tar Heels to 1 of 10 from 3-point range.

Big half upcoming for UNC. Hard to make a strong case for this team to definitely be in the 68-team NCAA Tournament field without this win. This is their last chance to make a case to the committee that they belong. Not a convincing case so far.

Five things to know for Louisville-Clemson on Friday night

The second game of Friday night's ACC Tournament doubleheader in the semifinals round features No. 2 seed Louisville and No. 3 seed Clemson in a battle to appear in Saturday's ACC Tournament title game.

Here are five things to know entering the game.

1. Louisville is playing in its first ACC Tournament semifinal game in program history (!) Friday night.

2. Clemson's win over SMU in the quarterfinals on Thursday was its 27th on the season — setting a single-season school record for wins in a season for the Tigers.

3. Clemson is appearing in its 15th-ever ACC Tournament semifinals game.

4. Louisville enters Friday with a 10-game winning streak and Clemson with a nine-game winning streak. During the calendar year 2025, they have combined for three losses 35 wins.

5. Friday will be the third time this season Clemson faces a ranked opponent. It will be the sixth time Louisville faces a ranked opponent this season, but first game vs. a ranked team since Dec. 14.

Series history as UNC, Duke prepare to meet

For the third time this season and 265th time in series history, Duke and North Carolina will meet on the basketball floor on Friday — this time in the ACC Tournament semifinals.

Here's a look at the storied rivalry between the two.

  • UNC leads the all-time series 145-119. However, Duke has a 53-47 advantage over the Tar Heels over the last 100 meetings.
  • Duke is 14-9 in ACC Tournament games vs. North Carolina. In ACC Tournament semifinals matchups, Duke is 8-3 vs. UNC in such situations, including a 5-1 record in the last six semifinals meetings vs. UNC.
  • Friday's meeting is the third between Duke and UNC in the span of 42 days.
  • Friday's meeting is the first ACC Tournament semifinals matchup between the two since 2019.
  • North Carolina is 36-18 in games played in the ACC Tournament semifinals round. The 36 wins are the most in ACC Tournament history, one more than Duke (35). No other team has more than 18.

Cooper Flagg, Maliq Brown out vs. UNC

Duke star Cooper Flagg and junior forward Maliq Brown, who sustained ankle and shoulder injuries vs. Georgia Tech in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals, respectively, have been ruled out for tonight's game vs. North Carolina in the ACC Tournament semifinals.

Duke announced the news at 5:09 p.m. ET ahead of tonight's 7 p.m. tip.

Duke opened as a 7.5-point favorite in the game but the line has fallen back UNC's favor slightly to Duke -7. Blue Devils coach Jon Scheyer said Thursday that Flagg playing in tonight's game was likely a long shot, so the expectation for today was that Flagg would likely rest and heal after suffering an ankle sprain on Thursday afternoon.

Dualing Flagg storylines

Duke freshman star Cooper Flagg is considered a long shot to play Friday in the semifinals vs. rival North Carolina.

Flagg's mom, however, was in attendance for Duke's game on Thursday and very likely will be in the arena watching tonight regardless of Flagg's status. That's particularly interesting given her, ahem, choice words she shared on social media after the UNC game in Chapel Hill she attended last week.

"It was a very intense situation we were put into and we were taken aback by the crudeness of the UNC fans as we made our way into the arena," she said in part. "They continued to harass us with much worse being spewed in our direction as well as at our 18-year-old son and his teammates throughout the entirety of the game."

Friday night in Charlotte could shape up to be a fun one between Duke and UNC regardless of how much involvement we get from the Flagg family. Duke is still favored even with Cooper's questionable tag, but the spread is Duke -7.

Last time Duke and UNC faced off ...

Was Saturday, March 8 — less than a week ago! — when Duke went into Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and defeated the Tar Heels, 82-69. The win secured Duke's outright ACC crown and also gave it the regular-season sweep of the rival Tar Heels.

Cooper Flagg had 15 points, six assists, nine rebounds and four blocks in the win. Kon Knuepel led Duke in scoring with 17 points, and both Sion James and Tyrese Proctor had 16 points each.

UNC kept the game relatively close until the end thanks to a big day from RJ Davis, who had 20 points and three assists — both team-highs in the loss.

ACC Tournament semifinals schedule, odds

Four teams are still standing as we hit the homestretch of the ACC Tournament in Charlotte on Friday. Action begins tonight at 7 p.m. Here's a look at the schedule and current odds:

  • 7 p.m. ET: Duke (-7) vs. UNC
  • 9:30 p.m. ET: Clemson (-1.5) vs. Louisville

Both games will air on ESPN.

The big question for tonight is whether Duke star Cooper Flagg will or will not play. Duke coach Jon Scheyer called his chances of suiting up tonight a "long shot" on Thursday, so seems unlikely. Still, bit surprised to see Duke as a 7-point favorite right now even if Flagg's status isn't official; the line opened at Duke -7.5, though, and is down to Duke -7.

Also a bit surprised to see Louisville as a dog — even if by a small margin. Reyne Smith still dealing with a right ankle injury after missing the last couple of games, and that line seems to indicate he may not play again. Would be a huge loss, to state the obvious: he's the team's best sharpshooter and averaging 13.4 points per game on the season.

ACC semifinals shaping up to be great

The penultimate day of ACC Tournament action in Charlotte, North Carolina, is shaping up to be a good one this evening. Three of the top four seeds are still standing and the fourth team, No. 5 seed North Carolina, is fighting for its NCAA Tournament life with a chance to punch a ticket and down top-seeded Duke in the process.

Duke-UNC kicks off the evening at 7 p.m. ET followed by Louisville-Clemson. The third meeting between the Blue Devils and Tar Heels figures to be closer than the previous two due to unfortunate injuries suffered Thursday in the quarters by Maliq Brown and star Cooper Flagg. Both their status' for Friday's game remain unclear, but Duke coach Jon Scheyer said Thursday that Flagg is a long shot to play in the semis

We'll see.

In the nightcap, Clemson-Louisville pits two teams who each won 18 ACC regular season games against one another. Louisville has won 20 of its last 21 and stunned Stanford with a buzzer-beater Thursday to advance. Clemson's been a special sort of hot, too, with 15 wins in its last 16 games.

Clemson survives upset scare

FINAL: Clemson 57, SMU 54

The ACC Tournament's final game of the day came down to the last possession, as No. 3 seed Clemson held on for a 57-54 win over No. 6 seed SMU. The Mustangs had a chance to take the lead in the final seconds, but Chuck Harris missed a go-ahead 3-pointer. Clemson will face No. 2 seed Louisville with a trip to the ACC title game on the line.

With the loss, SMU's chances of reaching the NCAA Tournament are all but finished. The Mustangs' lackluster resume will be hard to overcome and the likelihood of receiving an at-large berth is slim to none.

Louisville beats buzzer to advance

FINAL: Louisville 75, Stanford 73

Louisville's dream season continues with a buzzer-beater at the ACC Tournament quarterfinals from Cardinals star Chucky Hepburn, who caught the ball in a last-second scramble for a rebound and gathered just in time to lift a shot before the final horn to win it.

Fitting finish for Hepburn, who has been a star for a Cardinals team that lacked star power the last few years. He finishes with 20 points and eight dimes behind teammate Terrence Edwards Jr., who had 25 points.

Louisville will move into the semifinals to play the winner of Clemson and SMU Friday night at 9:30 p.m. ET.

North Carolina defeats Wake Forest in double-bubble game

FINAL: North Carolina 68, Wake Forest 59

North Carolina and Wake Forest were listed as two of the "Last Four Out" in the latest Bracketology projections by CBS Sports' Jerry Palm coming into the day. After the Tar Heels recorded a 68-59 win over Wake Forest in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals, their hopes of reaching the NCAA Tournament increased. Furthermore, North Carolina is likely to face a Duke team on Friday in the semifinals without superstar Cooper Flagg after he exited the first game of the day with a lower leg injury,

North Carolina star guard RJ Davis finished with a team-high 23 points.

After missing out on last year's NCAA Tournament, this Wake Forest team is tracking for a similar fate. The Demon Deacons are just 21-11 heading into Selection Sunday and would've needed this win against UNC to have a chance of reaching the Big Dance.

Duke holds off Georgia Tech despite Flagg injury

FINAL: Duke 78, Georgia Tech 70

Despite losing star freshman Cooper Flagg for the game to an ankle injury late in the first half, No. 1 seed Duke dug out of a 14-point first-half deficit and defeated No. 8 seed Georgia Tech to advance in the ACC Tournament's semifinals.

Fellow freshmen Kon Knueppel, Isaiah Evans and Khaman Maluach stepped up in Flagg's stead, with Knueppel finishing with a game-high 28 points and Maluach and Evans adding 14 points each. Duke outscored the Yellow Jackets 52-39 in the second half with Flagg on the bench looking on.

Duke advances into the ACC tourney semifinals on Friday where it will face the winner of either North Carolina or Wake Forest.

They were also the most points ever scored in an ACC Tournament second-round game.

SMU advances with win over Syracuse

FINAL: SMU 73, Syracuse 53

SMU cruised to a 73-53 victory in Wednesday's second-round matchup against Syracuse. Four different Mustang players finished with at least 10 points to set up a date with No. 3 seed Clemson tomorrow. SMU's chances of reaching the NCAA Tournament are slim, but anything is possible if the Mustangs run the table.

SMU guard Chuck Harris scored a team-high 12 points, and Boopie Miller added 10. Syracuse opened the ACC Tournament with a win over Florida State and finished with a 14-19 mark in Year 2 of the Adrian Autry era. Next year could prove to be a make-or-break season for Autry at Syracuse, with Kiyan Anthony -- the son of NBA legend Carmelo Anthony -- set to arrive on campus this fall.

Stanford downs Cal in second round

Final: (7) Stanford 78, (15) Cal 73

Cal guard Andrej Stojakovic exploded for 37 (!!!) points but Stanford got the win in an ACC Tournament second-round thriller. The Cardinal got big games from Maxime Raynaud and Jaylen Blakes and made late shots when they needed them to put the game away after a game full of back-and-forths.

Raynaud scored 23 and Blakes had 21 in the win.

Stanford completed the season-long sweep, scoring a perfect 3-0 record against its rival. All three wins came by single digits -- including two five-point wins over the Bears in the last month.

The win moves Stanford into the ACC Tournament quarterfinals, where it faces No. 2 seed Louisville on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET.

UNC blasts Notre Dame behind Withers' career game

Final: (5) North Carolina 76, (12) Notre Dame 56
