Auburn star forward Johni Broome returned to Sunday's Elite Eight game vs. Michigan State after suffering apparent elbow and leg injuries following a defensive sequence in which he contested a shot at the rim and landed awkwardly. Broome immediately slunk to the floor after the play, which took place with 10:37 remaining in an eventual 70-64 Tigers win.

Broome went back for further evaluation and underwent x-rays, which came back negative, before returning to the game with 5:29 remaining. He proceeded to grab a one-handed rebound on defense before burying a 3-pointer on the other end.

The scary play in which Broome fell left his mother, shown on CBS cameras, in tears as she looked on. Broome, as he walked off the floor, mouthed two words to teammates: "I'm done."

His return minutes later was welcomed to uproarious applause from the crowd in Atlanta.

Despite returning, Broome still appeared to be heavily favoring his right arm while battling through pain. Earlier in the game, he grimaced as he favored his right shoulder, which he injured earlier this season, in addition to the hyperextended elbow.

"It was a scary moment," Broome said postgame on CBS. "I went down, but my team had my back."

Broome added he will be ready for the Final Four next week. How effective he may be could be another issue entirely.

That will be among the most compelling storylines this week as Broome, a National Player of the Year candidate, has been the conductor of one of the most complete teams in college basketball now headed to its second-ever Final Four. Broome is the SEC's leader in rebounds and ranks top-five nationally in Player Efficiency Rating and Box Plus/Minus.

Auburn plays Saturday night at 6:09 p.m. ET on CBS vs. No. 1 seed Florida.
