Live scores, highlights and updates from the Appalachian State vs. Marshall football game
Game Recap
The Marshall Thundering Herd were the 17-7 winners over the Appalachian State Mountaineers when they previously met last September. On Thursday? They had no such luck. It could have gone either way late during winning time for the Thundering Herd or Appalachian State, but it was Appalachian State snatching the 31-30 win.
Appalachian State can attribute much of their success to RB Nate Noel, who picked up 187 yards on the ground on 20 carries. Appalachian State also relied on K Chandler Staton, whose 45-yard field goal boot in the fourth quarter wound up being the difference in the game.
Despite their loss, Marshall got to see several of their players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. RB Rasheen Ali, who punched in one rushing touchdown, was the best among equals.
The loss dropped Marshall back to even at 2-2. The victory bumped the Mountaineers' record up to 3-1.
The Thundering Herd are staying on the road next week to face off against the Middle Tenn. Blue Raiders at 7 p.m. ET Oct. 2 at Johnny (Red) Floyd Stadium. As for Appalachian State, they will go up against the Georgia State Panthers at 2 p.m. ET next week at Center Parc Stadium.
