Baylor will head to Oklahoma in Week 11 without its all-time leading rusher, Shock Linwood. Acting coach Jim Grobe said Monday that Linwood would not play vs. the Sooners because of "attitude issues."
"My plan right now is to not have Shock for Oklahoma. I think there's some attitude issues right now," Grobe said via ESPN. "It's not anything major. It's not. ... If I throw out violation of team rules and all that, that sends everybody off thinking the worst. But he's just not been himself. He's not really been as focused as I think he needs to be, and he's in a tough situation."
A report from the Week 10 loss to TCU said Linwood shoved an assistant who was yelling at him. Linwood became the school's all-time leading rusher in September against Rice. He has 4,056 rushing yards in all. However, he is not the team's leading rusher this season and eclipsed 100 yards only once (237 vs. Iowa State). He had just six carries for 27 yards in the 62-22 loss to the Horned Frogs.
Focus is an obvious issue for Baylor beyond Linwood. Last week, members of the team's coaching staff signed a statement shared on Twitter regarding the school's sexual assault scandal. The statement also vehemently defended former coach Art Briles. After the TCU, Grobe said he was unaware of the protest until after it occurred.
"I just think that if you get too caught up in making statements, you play terrible. And that's what happened," Grobe said Monday.
