Illinois vs. Maryland updates: Live NCAAF game scores, results for Friday
Live scores, highlights and updates from the Illinois vs. Maryland football game
Game Recap
The Maryland Terrapins are still undefeated after their contest against the Illinois Fighting Illini on Friday, but Illinois came as close as anyone has to beating them. The Terrapins came out on top in a nail-biter against the Fighting Illini, sneaking past 20-17. That result was just more of the same for Maryland, who also won the last time these teams played (Oct. 27 of 2018).
QB Taulia Tagovailoa and RB Tayon Fleet-Davis were among the main playmakers for Maryland as the former passed for one TD and 350 yards on 43 attempts and the latter punched in one rushing touchdown in addition to catching that TD.
Maryland's defense was a presence as well, as it embarrassed Illinois' offensive line to sack the QB six times for a total loss of 53 yards. The heavy lifting was done by LB Durell Nchami and DL Greg Rose, who each racked up two sacks.
RB Josh McCray hadn't helped the Fighting Illini's cause all that much against the Virginia Cavaliers last week, but the same can't be said for this matchup. Despite the defeat, Illinois got a solid performance out of McCray, who punched in one rushing touchdown.
The Terrapins' win brought them up to 3-0. Illinois' overall record fell to 1-3.
Maryland will take on the Kent State Golden Flashes at 3:30 p.m. ET next week at home. As for Illinois, they will go up against the Purdue Boilermakers at 3:30 p.m. ET next week at Ross-Ade Stadium.
