You can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely the Iowa State Cyclones' strategy against the Kansas Jayhawks on Saturday. The Cyclones steamrolled past Kansas 59-7 at home. This was the most points they've scored all season.
Iowa State's offense came in ready to rumble, picking up 38 points in the first half. Kansas wasn't quite able to keep up, and the score was 38 to nothing heading into the break. The offense for Iowa State continued to do well in the second half, scoring another 21 points to put the game away.
Iowa State's QB Brock Purdy was on fire, passing for four TDs and 245 yards on 22 attempts in addition to picking up 37 yards on the ground. RB Breece Hall was in the mix, too, providing the Cyclones with two touchdowns.
The Jayhawks' only offensive touchdown came from WR Torry Locklin.
The victory bumped Iowa State's record up to 3-2. The loss dropped Kansas' record to 1-4.
Iowa State will have some time to savor their win since their next matchup is a little ways off; they will square off against the Kansas State Wildcats at Bill Snyder Family Stadium at 1 p.m. ET in two weeks. Iowa State is 0-2 after wins this year, and K-State is 0-1 after losses. As for the Jayhawks, they will face off against the Texas Tech Red Raiders at 1 p.m. ET in two weeks at Kivisto Field at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium.
