LSU vs. South Carolina: Live updates, score, results, highlights, for Saturday's NCAAF game
Live scores, highlights and updates from the LSU vs. South Carolina football game
Game Recap
The LSU Tigers were successful in their previous meeting against the South Carolina Gamecocks, and they didn't afford USC any payback this time around. LSU put the hurt on the Gamecocks with a sharp 52-24 victory. This was a must-win matchup for LSU as they bounced back from a huge upset against the Missouri Tigers two weeks ago.
LSU started the game off right with 31 first-half points. USC wasn't quite able to keep up, and the score was 31-10 heading into the break. LSU's offense just added to that total in the second half en route to their big win.
LSU can attribute much of their success to QB TJ Finley, who passed for two TDs and 265 yards on 21 attempts in addition to punching in one rushing touchdown, and RB Tyrion Davis-Price, who rushed for one TD and 135 yards on 22 carries. This was the first time Davis-Price has racked up 100+ rushing yards all year. LSU's CB Eli Ricks got in on the action, too, converting a pick in the second quarter into a touchdown.
LSU's defense was a presence as well, as it got past USC's offensive line to sack the quarterback five times. Leading the way was LB BJ Ojulari and his three sacks. Ojulari now has four sacks this season.
The losing side was boosted by RB Kevin Harris, who rushed for two TDs and 126 yards on 12 carries.
The win bumped LSU's record up to 1-2. The loss dropped the Gamecocks back to even at 2-2.
LSU will take on the Auburn Tigers at 3:30 p.m. ET next Saturday at Jordan-Hare Stadium. The defensive coordinators will surely put in extra hours ahead of this contest since these teams' offenses combined for 1,003 yards this week. USC will have some time to rest before their next matchup, which is against the Texas A&M Aggies at 7:30 p.m. ET in two weeks at Williams-Brice Stadium.
