Game Recap
Saturday, the Syracuse Orange were out to avenge their 27-20 defeat to the Pittsburgh Panthers from their previous meeting last October, but they had no such luck. The Orange came up short against Pitt, falling 21-10. 'Cuse hasn't found any success against Pitt since Oct. 7 of 2017, this loss making it three in a row.
WR Jordan Addison and QB Kenny Pickett were among the main playmakers for Pitt as the former snatched one receiving TD and the latter passed for two TDs and 215 yards on 36 attempts in addition to punching in one rushing touchdown. Pickett's longest connection was to WR Jared Wayne for 25 yards in the third quarter.
Pitt's defense was a presence as well, as it embarrassed 'Cuse's offensive line to sack the quarterback seven times for a loss of 12 yards. The heavy lifting was done by DL Rashad Weaver and DL Calijah Kancey, who each racked up two sacks.
No one had a standout game offensively for the Orange, but they got scores from WR Taj Harris and QB Rex Culpepper. One of the most thrilling moments was Harris' 69-yard TD reception in the second quarter.
This is the second loss in a row for 'Cuse and nudges their record down to 0-2. The victory makes it two in a row for Pitt and bumps their record up to 2-0.
'Cuse looks to take advantage of their home turf advantage next week as they take on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at Carrier Dome at noon ET. Georgia Tech also suffered a recent defeat, falling 28-14 to the UCF Knights Saturday. The Panthers will be hunkering down at home again for their game against the Louisville Cardinals at noon ET Sept. 26 at Heinz Field.
