Live scores, highlights and updates from the Purdue vs. Iowa football game
Game Recap
The Iowa Hawkeyes had to start their season on the road on Saturday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They were within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 24-20 to the Purdue Boilermakers. Iowa was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Purdue apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played, back in October of last year.
The Boilermakers can attribute much of their success to WR David Bell, who caught 13 passes for three TDs and 121 yards. Purdue's win came on a six-yard TD pass from QB Aidan O'Connell to Bell with only 2:19 remaining in the fourth quarter. O'Connell didn't exactly stuff the stat sheet, but finished with three touchdowns.
No one had a standout game offensively for Iowa, but they got one touchdown from RB Mekhi Sargent.
This was the first matchup for both squads, making it a 0-1 start for Iowa and a 1-0 start for Purdue.
The Hawkeyes will take on the Northwestern Wildcats at 1 p.m. ET next Saturday at Kinnick Stadium. The defensive coordinators will surely put in extra hours ahead of this game since these teams' offenses combined for 997 yards this week. As for the Boilermakers, they will face off against the Illinois Fighting Illini at 1 p.m. ET next Saturday at Memorial Stadium. Unlike Purdue, Illinois will be limping in after taking a loss.
