TCU vs. SMU: Live updates, score, results, highlights, for Saturday's NCAA Football game
Live scores, highlights and updates from the TCU vs. SMU football game
The SMU Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the TCU Horned Frogs at 12:00 p.m. ET on Saturday at Amon G. Carter Stadium. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
You're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for SMU on Saturday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew Prairie View out of the water with a 69-0 final score. With that victory, SMU brought their scoring average up to 39.3 points per game.
QB Preston Stone had a stellar game as he threw for 300 yards and five touchdowns, and also rushed for 11 yards and a touchdown. Stone wound up with a passer rating of 273.5. WR Jordan Kerley was another key contributor, picking up 83 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, TCU took their victory against Houston on Saturday by a conclusive 36-13.
TCU relied on the efforts of RB Emani Bailey, who rushed for 126 yards and a touchdown, and QB Chandler Morris, who threw for 314 yards and two touchdowns. DL Paul Oyewale was a menace on defense, having laid out the QB twice before the game was over.
Special teams was a major factor in the game for TCU. K Griffin Kell added nine points with three field goals, and another three kicking extra points. His longest was a 53-yard strike in the second quarter. The most memorable score for special teams though was a 98-yard kickoff return for a touchdown from WR Matthew Golden in the second quarter.
TCU and SMU pleased both fans and bettors in their last contests by winning and covering the spread. Looking ahead, TCU shouldn't be too worried about this matchup, as the experts have them favored by 6.5 points. This contest will be their third straight as the favorites (a stretch that saw them go 1-2 against the spread).
SMU came up short against TCU in their previous matchup last September, falling 42-34. Can SMU avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
