Texas Tech vs. California updates: Live NCAA Football game scores, results for Saturday
Live scores, highlights and updates from the Texas Tech vs. California football game
3rd Quarter Report
Texas Tech fell flat on their face against Texas back in November, but memory of that harsh defeat doesn't seem to have tripped them up today. Texas Tech has a bit of a cushion as they currently lead California 31-14. Texas Tech's offense has been firing on all cylinders thus far, outscoring their total from back in November with time still left to play.
If Texas Tech keeps playing like this, they'll bump their record up to 7-6 in no time. On the other hand, California will have to make due with a 6-7 record unless they turn things around (and fast).
Preview
The California Golden Bears and the Texas Tech Red Raiders will square off in the Independence Bowl at Independence Stadium 9:15 p.m. ET on Saturday. California will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak dating back to last season.
California has more to be thankful for after their match against UCLA back in November. California blew past UCLA 33-7.
Among those leading the charge was Jeremiah Hunter, who picked up 101 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Fernando Mendoza also helped with two touchdowns in total.
Another reason for the win was California's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for six sacks. In that department, David Reese was the leader with three sacks. Another playmaker for California has been Jaydn Ott, who managed to return a kickoff 100-yards to the end zone in the second quarter.
Meanwhile, Texas Tech gave up the first points and the most points back in November. They were completely outmatched by Texas on the road and fell 57-7. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Texas Tech has scored all season.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, the Red Raiders weren't very productive in the air and finished the game with only 88 passing yards. That's the fewest passing yards they've managed all season.
The win got California back to even at 6-6. As for Texas Tech, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 6-6.
California is hoping to beat the odds on Saturday, as the experts think they're headed for a loss. They might be worth a quick bet since they've covered the spread the last three times they've played.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Saturday's game: The Golden Bears have been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 181.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like the Red Raiders struggle in that department as they've been averaging 165.8 rushing yards per game. It's looking like Saturday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches. Check CBS Sports after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more college football content.
