The TCU Horned Frogs were successful in their previous meeting against the Texas Longhorns, and they didn't afford Texas any payback this time around. Saturday, the Horned Frogs narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Texas 33-31. The victory came about even with TCU handicapping themselves with 130 penalty yards.
TCU started the game off right with 20 first-half points. Texas wasn't quite able to keep up, and the score was 20-14 heading into the break. TCU almost let the contest get away from them in the second half, but they had just enough oomph to take it.
TCU QB Max Duggan did work as he accumulated 231 passing yards in addition to rushing for two TDs and 79 yards. K Griffin Kell added his talents, too, launching four field goals between the uprights.
Special teams collected 15 points for the Horned Frogs. Kell booted in four field goals, the longest a 49-yarder in the third quarter, which ultimately accounted for the difference in the matchup.
Texas' loss came about despite a quality game from QB Sam Ehlinger, who passed for four TDs and 236 yards on 36 attempts in addition to picking up 49 yards on the ground.
The victory bumped TCU's record up to 0-1. Texas' overall record fell to 2-0.
TCU will take on the Kansas State Wildcats at 4 p.m. ET next week at Amon G. Carter Stadium. K-State is also hoping to continue their momentum after a 6 to nothing victory over the Texas Tech Red Raiders Saturday. As for the Longhorns, they will go up against the Oklahoma Sooners at noon ET next week at Cotton Bowl.
