The UAB Blazers have had a week off and are no doubt ready to get back on the field. The Blazers and the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs will face off in a Conference USA battle at noon ET on Saturday at Protective Stadium. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Two weeks ago, UAB was within a late touchdown of stealing the win, but they took the "L" against the Rice Owls 30-24. What made the defeat an especially bitter pill for UAB to swallow was that they had been favored by 23.5 points coming into the game. RB DeWayne McBride put forth a good effort for the losing side as he punched in two rushing touchdowns.

Meanwhile, it was all tied up 10-10 at halftime, but Louisiana Tech was not quite the Old Dominion Monarchs' equal in the second half when they met last week. It was a hard-fought contest, but Louisiana Tech had to settle for a 23-20 loss against Old Dominion. No one had a standout game offensively for the Bulldogs, but they got scores from WR Isaiah Graham and RB Marcus Williams Jr..

This next matchup looks promising for the Blazers, who are favored by a full 13.5 points. Those burned by picking them against the spread two weeks ago might want to keep in mind that the team has not yet dropped back-to-back games against the spread this season.

UAB is now 5-3 while Louisiana Tech sits at 2-6. Two defensive stats to keep in the back of your head while watching: UAB is stumbling into the contest with the 214th most passing touchdowns allowed in the nation, having given up 13 on the season. The Bulldogs have experienced some passing struggles of their own as they are 236th worst in the nation in passing yards allowed per game, with 314.3 on average. It's possible one of these Achilles' heels will wind up tripping the losing team up.
