USC vs. Stanford: Live updates, score, results, highlights, for Saturday's NCAAF game
Live scores, highlights and updates from the USC vs. Stanford football game
Game Recap
After losing to the USC Trojans the last time they met, the Stanford Cardinal decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Stanford took their matchup against USC on Saturday 42-28. The high-flying offensive effort was a definite turnaround from the Cardinal's flat performance the game before.
The contest started off well for Stanford, whose offense put up 21 first-half points. USC wasn't quite able to keep up, and the score was 21-10 heading into the break. The offense for Stanford continued to do well in the second half, scoring another 21 points to put the game away.
Stanford can attribute much of their success to RB Nathaniel Peat, who rushed for one TD and 115 yards on six carries, and QB Tanner McKee, who passed for two TDs and 234 yards on 22 attempts in addition to punching in one rushing touchdown. That touchdown -- an 87-yard rush in the first quarter -- was one of the highlights of the game. Stanford's CB Kyu Blu Kelly got in on the action, too, converting a pick in the third quarter into a touchdown.
No one had a standout game offensively for the Trojans, but they got scores from WR Drake London, RB Keaontay Ingram, and RB Darwin Barlow. The game leaves both teams with the exact same record at 1-1.
The Cardinal will hit the road for the second straight week as they head to Vanderbilt Stadium at 8 p.m. ET next Saturday. Like them, the Vanderbilt Commodores are also coming into the game bolstered by a recent victory. As for USC, they will face off against the Washington State Cougars at 3:30 p.m. ET next Saturday at Clarence D. Martin Stadium.
