The 49ers released Brown on Thursday, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
After getting a week to prove his worth with the 49ers, Brown has been jettisoned in favor of a new pair of receivers (Kevin White and River Cracraft). Brown has been used regularly but in a limited role during seven pro seasons, so he's likely only a phone call away from another chance elsewhere in the league
