The 2017 PGA Tour opening SBS Tournament of Champions has produced predictably low scores at Kapalua in Maui, Hawaii, with Justin Thomas and Ryan Moore sharing the 36-hole lead at 12 under after posting 6-under 67s on Friday.
Thomas and Moore had seven birdies and one bogey to assume the midway lead. Thomas has leaned on his putting, ranking third in the field in strokes gained putting, thanks to rolls like this one for birdie at No. 17.
Some putts look good the whole way...

Moore has done his damage with irons, attacking pins to lead in strokes gained on approaches to the green. The best example of this ball-striking was this dart Friday.

The biggest mover in the second round was Patrick Reed, who fired an 8-under 65 to climb 9 shots to T3 with first-round leader Jimmy Walker. Reed had a bogey-free round, including four birdies in his final five holes, thanks to fantastic ball-striking. Reed hit all 18 greens in regulation for the first time in his Tour career and hit 13 of 14 fairways in regulation as well.
P. Reed hit 18/18 GIR Friday in Maui. "Would have hit all 14 f'ways as well, but my tee shot @ No 1 was too good & rolled through," he said.

Friday's strangest round belonged to Jordan Spieth, who had nine birdies -- five straight at one point -- a double bogey and a triple bogey. Spieth's bizarre 4-under 69 moved him up three spots into T19, 7 shots off the lead.
