The veteran may have bought himself a little more leeway with his fifth-inning solo shot against the Rays. It was his first long ball of the campaign and his first hit of any sort over his past seven contests. Despite Monday's glimmer of hope, LeMahieu is still slashing a paltry .181/.276/.228 through 146 plate appearances on the campaign.

The veteran infielder has a .472 OPS through 39 games this season and is hitting .154 with one extra-base hit in 39 at-bats during July. According to Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News, manager Aaron Boone wouldn't commit to LeMahieu being back in the lineup in Monday's series finale, perhaps signaling that the 36-year-old's time as an everyday player could be nearing its end.

LeMahieu took a seat for Thursday's 5-4 loss to the Rays after he was hit by a pitch on his left pinkie finger Wednesday, but he was back in the lineup for the first two games of the Yankees' series in Baltimore. After going hitless in eight at-bats between Friday and Saturday, LeMahieu will hit the bench Sunday for what appears to be a maintenance day heading into the All-Star break. Oswaldo Cabrera will replace LeMahieu at third base.

LeMahieu was held out of Thursday's contest after he was hit by a pitch on his left pinkie finger and later fouled a ball off his neck Wednesday. A CT scan on his neck came back clean, so Thursday's absence was likely precautionary. LeMahieu has hit .417 (5-for-12) over his past four games.
