Twins' Elliot Soto: Minor-league deal with Twins
Soto signed a minor-league contract with the Twins on Tuesday.
The 33 year-old infielder got added to Minnesota's 40-man roster in June but was designated for assignment a day later without appearing in a game. Soto is a glove-first player (81 wRC+ last year at Triple-A) whose upside is likely capped as a bench piece.

Elliot Soto: Becomes free agent
Soto elected free agency Monday after clearing outright waivers.
The 33-year-old infielder was briefly up with the Twins in mid-June for a few days, but he was removed from the 40-man roster without having ever made an appearance for the big club. He spent the majority of the 2022 campaign at Triple-A St. Paul, where he slashed .223/.320/.342 over 344 plate appearances.

Twins' Elliot Soto: Contract selected by Twins
Soto's contract was purchased by the Twins on Monday, Brandon Warne of Access Twins reports.
Soto's only big-league experience was a three-game stint for the Angels back in 2020. The 32-year-old has spent this year with Triple-A St. Paul, where he's struggled to a .213/.327/.331 slash line and homered just twice in 41 games. He'll give the Twins an extra glove in the middle infield but is unlikely to help much with his bat.

Soto's agent, Marc J. Kligman, announced Monday via his personal Twitter account that his client signed a minor-league contract with the Twins.
The 32-year-old Soto will likely fill a depth role in the middle infield for the Twins' Triple-A affiliate in St. Paul during the upcoming season. Soto's lone MLB action came with the Angels in 2020, when he was used in three games and logged seven plate appearances.

Dodgers' Elliot Soto: Invited to Dodgers camp
Soto signed a minor-league deal with the Dodgers on Friday, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.
The deal includes an invitation to big-league camp. Soto would seem to be quite unlikely to break camp with the team, however, as the 31-year-old has appeared in just three big-league games in his career, all with the Angels last season.

Angels' Elliot Soto: Outrighted to minors
Soto cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Salt Lake on Friday.
The 31-year-old had his contract selected for the final week of the season and went 2-for-6 with a double and two runs in three games, but he's now back off the 40-man roster. Soto will need a strong spring training to have any chance of grabbing spot on the Opening Day roster next year.

Angels' Elliot Soto: Contract selected
Soto's contract was selected by the Angels on Tuesday.
Soto will join the major-league club for the first time in his career after Andrelton Simmons opted out of the final week of the season Tuesday. David Fletcher should be the favorite to see playing time at shortstop with Luis Rengifo at second base, but Soto could certainly make his major-league debut as the regular season comes to an end. The 31-year-old slashed .305/.380/.480 with 10 home runs and 50 RBI at the Triple-A level last year.

Angels' Elliot Soto: Will be part of taxi squad
Soto is among three players the Angels have selected to be part of their taxi squad, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
Soto is not on the 40-man roster, but he has spent the last four seasons at Triple-A and can play multiple infield positions, making him a strong contingency option in case of injury or illness to an active player. As part of the taxi squad, Soto will join Anthony Bemboom and Luke Bard as teammates who travel with the Angels on road trips but are not eligible to play without first replacing a player on the active roster.

Angels' Elliot Soto: Grabs spot on 60-man roster
Soto will be part of the Angels' 60-man roster.
Soto was extended an invite to camp this past December, and the team will give him a similar opportunity upon the season's restart. The 30-year-old isn't currently on the 40-man roster and has spent the last four seasons at the Triple-A level. Last year was one of his best for Triple-A Albuquerque, as Soto posted four-year highs in OPS (.860), RBI (50) and home runs (10). At this point, however, he's likely not much more than roster depth at middle infield.

Angels' Elliot Soto: Invited to Angels' camp
Soto signed a minor-league contract with the Angels on Thursday as a non-roster invitee to spring training, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.
Soto appeared in 112 games for Triple-A Albuquerque in 2019, where he hit .305/.380/.480 with 10 home runs and 50 RBI. He's yet to make his major-league debut, but he will get the chance to work in big-league camp during spring training and it wouldn't be surprising to see him make his debut sooner rather than later if he remains productive at the Triple-A level.
