  • Blue Jays' Ryan Yarbrough: Piggybacks opener

Yarbrough allowed four hits over 3.2 scoreless innings in a no-decision Sunday. He struck out three during the loss to Miami. Yarbrough did not allow a runner to reach scoring position during his outing. He gave up four runs over his final 26.1 innings, dropping his season ERA from 3.86 to a career-best 3.19. He threw 98.2 innings in 44 appearances this season with the Dodgers and Blue Jays.

  • Blue Jays' Ryan Yarbrough: Sharp in bulk relief Sunday

Yarbrough came away with a no-decision in Sunday's loss to the Rays, allowing one run on two hits and a walk over four relief innings. He struck out five. Taking the mound with one out in the second inning after an impressive stint from opener Ryan Burr, Yarbrough tossed 54 pitches (38 strikes) and held Tampa Bay scoreless, only to watch Zach Pop let his inherited runner cross the plate in the sixth. Yarbrough has a 1.98 ERA, 0.59 WHIP and 12:3 K:BB over 13.2 innings in September across five appearances, but it's not clear if he'll get another scheduled turn as a bulk reliever before the end of the season.

  • Blue Jays' Ryan Yarbrough: Set for bulk-relief role

Yarbrough is expected to serve as a bulk reliever behind opening pitcher Ryan Burr in Sunday's game against the Rays, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports. The lefty hasn't made a start for Toronto since being acquired at the trade deadline July 30, but he should be ticketed for his third outing as a bulk reliever behind Burr. When Burr previously made one- and two-inning starts Aug. 22 against the Angels and Sept. 9 versus the Mets, respectively, Yarbrough followed him and covered five and 3.2 innings out of the bullpen. Yarbrough will be pitching on three days' rest Sunday after logging two scoreless innings out of the bullpen Wednesday against the Rangers.

  • Blue Jays' Ryan Yarbrough: Nabs win in bulk relief

Yarbrough (5-2) earned the win over the Angels on Thursday, allowing three hits and striking out four batters over five scoreless innings in bulk relief. Ryan Burr opened the contest for Toronto and pitched a scoreless first frame. He surrendered a leadoff single in the second and then turned the ball over to Yarbrough, who followed with five scoreless innings during which he allowed just three singles and a hit batsman. The outing was the longest for Yarbrough since joining the Blue Jays via a trade with the Dodgers on July 30 -- before Thursday, he hadn't pitched more than two innings in an appearance for the Blue Jays. The left-hander has been pitching well of late, giving up only one run across his past nine innings spanning three outings.

  • Blue Jays' Ryan Yarbrough: Slated for bulk relief Thursday

Yarbrough is expected to be deployed as a bulk reliever in Thursday's game versus the Angels, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports. Ryan Burr will be the Blue Jays' opening pitcher, but it will be Yarbrough who is likely to cover most of the innings. The left-hander hasn't gone more than two innings in any of his first four appearances with Toronto, but he lasted three-plus innings in eight of his 32 outings earlier this season with the Dodgers.

  • Blue Jays' Ryan Yarbrough: Works out of bullpen Sunday

Yarbrough retired all three batters he faced but was charged with a blown save in Sunday's 4-3 extra-inning loss to the Yankees. Though Kaitlin McGrath of The Athletic reported shortly after Yarbrough was acquired from the Dodgers on Tuesday that the left-hander would likely serve as a member of the Toronto rotation down the stretch, any appointment to a starting role looks as though it'll come later on in the season. Yarbrough has plenty of prior starting experience in the big leagues, but he had worked exclusively out of the bullpen this season with the Dodgers and hasn't recorded more than four outs in an appearance since the All-Star break, so he'll likely need more time to get stretched out before the Blue Jays turn to him in the rotation. In his team debut Sunday, Yarbrough was called upon to protect a 2-0 lead with no outs and runners at first and second, and while he was able to escape the sixth inning with no damage to his ERA, the Yankees successfully manufactured two runs to tie up the game. Jazz Chisholm and Anthony Volpe first executed a double steal, then came around to score on a fielder's choice and sacrifice fly, respectively.

  • Blue Jays' Ryan Yarbrough: Expected to join rotation

Yarbrough is expected to work out of the rotation once he joins the Blue Jays, Kaitlyn McGrath of The Athletic reports. Acquired from the Dodgers on Tuesday in exchange for outfielder Kevin Kiermaier, Yarbrough has made all 32 of his appearances out of the bullpen this season, but he has extensive experience as a starter and bulk reliever from his time in Tampa Bay. He posted a 3.74 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 39:25 K:BB through 67.1 innings for the Dodgers in 2024, but he's unlikely to maintain those ratios in a larger role -- he has a 4.74 ERA over 68 career starts.

  • Dodgers' Ryan Yarbrough: Designated for assignment

Yarbrough was designated for assignment by the Dodgers on Monday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. Yarbrough will be placed on waivers and if he goes unclaimed, he'll either report to Triple-A Oklahoma City or elect free agency. He is the odd man out on the major-league roster after the team acquired infielder Amed Rosario from the Rays via trade Monday. Yarbrough has produced a respectable 3.74 ERA and 1.14 WHIP with 39 strikeouts over 67.1 innings in 32 appearances with Los Angeles this season.

  • Dodgers' Ryan Yarbrough: Covers three frames in bulk relief

Yarbrough tossed three relief innings against Texas on Thursday, allowing one run on two hits and four walks while striking out three batters. With Yoshinobu Yamamoto's scheduled start pushed back to Saturday, Los Angeles opted for a bullpen game in the finale of a three-game set against the Rangers. Michael Grove opened and took the loss after allowing two runs in one inning, before Yarbrough settled things down a bit despite issuing a season-high four free passes. Yarbrough has shifted between a starting role and a relief role throughout his career, but he's made all 19 of his appearances so far this year out of the bullpen. The southpaw has covered two or more innings in 11 of those outings, and overall he's posted a 3.11 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 22:16 K:BB over 46.1 frames.

  • Dodgers' Ryan Yarbrough: Could fill bulk innings Wednesday

Yarbrough could be available to cover multiple innings in relief for Wednesday's game in San Francisco while the Dodgers treat the series finale as a bullpen day, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports. After Tuesday's 10-2 win, manager Dave Roberts said that no pitcher is "en route" from the minors to fill the hole in the rotation Wednesday, so the team will turn to a number of relievers to cover the innings. Yarbrough wasn't used in either of the first two games of the series in San Francisco and has covered three-plus innings on six other occasions this season, so he appears to be the Dodgers pitcher most likely to see heavy usage Wednesday.

  • Dodgers' Ryan Yarbrough: Effective in long relief

Yarbrough (2-0) picked up the win Tuesday night against the Nationals, allowing two runs on two hits while striking out three over five innings. Yarbrough was deployed as a bulk reliever and entered to begin the third after Kyle Hurt tossed two scoreless frames. Things started off a little rocky after he surrendered a two-run homer to Jesse Winker in his first inning, but the southpaw was able to settle in moving forward, retiring 14 straight batters to complete his outing. Five of Yarbrough's six appearances this season have lasted more than three outs, and he's been effective in a long relief role, posting a 3.20 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 9:4 K:BB in 19.2 innings.

  • Dodgers' Ryan Yarbrough: Could work in bulk relief Tuesday

Yarbrough could be deployed as a bulk reliever in Tuesday's game against the Nationals or work as a multi-inning option as part of a bullpen day, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports. In an effort to keep rookie Yoshinobu Yamamoto on his normal schedule of five days' rest between starts, the Dodgers look to set to run with a six-man rotation this week. Since Walker Buehler (elbow) won't be ready to return from the 15-day injured list until next week and after Bobby Miller (shoulder) landed on the shelf over the weekend, the Dodgers will add two new pitchers to the rotation Tuesday and Wednesday. Yarbrough last pitched Friday, but he covered just one inning in relief and should be capable of covering four or five frames Tuesday, if needed to do so. The Dodgers are also planning to call up Kyle Hurt from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday to offer some extra length, so both Yarbrough and Hurt could be called upon to cover multiple innings if Los Angeles elects to use another reliever to open the game.

  • Dodgers' Ryan Yarbrough: In line for multi-inning role Tuesday

Yarbrough is expected to serve as the bulk reliever Tuesday against the Giants, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports. The Dodgers will elect to give the starting rotation an extra day off early in the season, and Yarbrough will be relied on to eat up innings as part of a bullpen game. The club has yet to announce who will open the contest. Yarbrough is off to a strong start to the 2024 campaign, surrendering one unearned run over 4.2 frames while fanning two and walking two.

  • Dodgers' Ryan Yarbrough: Notches three-inning save

Yarbrough picked up the save in Thursday's 7-1 win over the Cardinals, allowing just one hit while logging one strikeout over three scoreless innings. After Tyler Glasnow held St. Louis to one run in the first six innings, Yarbrough held the Redbirds to a lone single over three efficient innings as he earned an unexpected Opening Day save. The 32-year-old left-hander isn't likely to see many save chances going forward in Los Angeles, as he's slated for a long-relief role. Yarbrough went 8-7 with a 4.52 ERA and 67:14 K:BB across 89.2 innings last season between the Dodgers and Rays.

  • Dodgers' Ryan Yarbrough: Gets $3.9 million from Dodgers

The Dodgers and Yarbrough avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $3.9 million contract Thursday, Kiley McDaniel of ESPN.com reports. Yarbrough was in his final year of arbitration eligibility. The left-hander held a 4.52 ERA and 67:14 K:BB over 89.2 frames for the Royals and Dodgers in 2023.

  • Dodgers' Ryan Yarbrough: Not on NLDS roster

Yarbrough isn't listed on the Dodgers' roster for the NLDS, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports. Yarbrough turned in an ugly performance in his season finale, surrendering nine runs in four innings while striking out just two batters en route to a loss Sept. 28 against Colorado. He'll end up being passed up for the postseason roster while Emmet Sheehan and Michael Grove both earn spots.

  • Dodgers' Ryan Yarbrough: Pummeled in Colorado

Yarbrough (8-7) allowed nine runs on 11 hits and one walk while striking out two over four innings to take the loss versus the Rockies on Thursday. Yarbrough had allowed just eight runs over his first 15.1 innings in September, but a trip to Coors Field was responsible for his worst outing of the season. It inflated his ERA to 4.52 with a 1.23 WHIP and 67:14 K:BB through 89.2 innings between the Dodgers and the Royals. The southpaw will likely operate as a long-relief option during the Dodgers' postseason run.

  • Dodgers' Ryan Yarbrough: Gets starting nod Thursday

Yarbrough is listed as the Dodgers' probable starting pitcher for Thursday's game against the Rockies. The southpaw will be making just his second start for the Dodgers since being acquired in an Aug. 1 deal with the Royals, but he should be able to provide Los Angeles with plenty of length. He's worked three-plus innings in nine of his 10 outings with the Dodgers, pitching to a 3.12 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 36:4 K:BB over 34.2 innings. With a strong showing Thursday, Yarbrough could cement a spot in the Dodgers' postseason rotation, but he'll otherwise fill a key relief role if he misses out on a starting role.

  • Dodgers' Ryan Yarbrough: Mops up in loss to Giants

Yarbrough struck out five and was charged with two earned runs on five hits and one walk over 3.2 innings in Friday's 5-1 loss to the Giants. Yarbrough was one of two bulk relievers the Dodgers used behind opener Caleb Ferguson, who exited the contest after one inning. Right-hander Gavin Stone then came on and gave up three earned runs over 4.1 innings before Yarbrough finished out the contest. Since the Giants raced out to a 3-0 lead while Stone was on the mound, Yarbrough was spared the loss. Yarbrough now holds a 3.12 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 36:4 K:BB over 34.2 innings in 10 outings since being acquired from the Royals on Aug. 1.

  • Dodgers' Ryan Yarbrough: Could piggyback Sheehan

The Dodgers could deploy Yarbrough as a piggyback pitcher behind starter Emmet Sheehan in Thursday's game against the Giants, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports. While manager Dave Roberts hasn't revealed how he plans to manage his pitching staff in the series opener, piggybacking the right-handed Sheehan with the left-handed Yarbrough would make sense. The Dodgers are cognizant of managing the rookie Sheehan's workload and haven't had him cover more than five innings in the majors or minors since July 29, so having him toss three or four frames before exiting the contest may be Roberts' preferred approach. Additionally, having Yarbrough enter the contest in the middle innings would help the Dodgers neutralize a Giants lineup that often contains four lefty bats in Michael Conforto, Joc Pederson, Mike Yastrzemski and LaMonte Wade. Yarbrough last pitched Sunday, but he should be capable of giving the Dodgers three or four innings on three days' rest, if necessary.
