  • Rockies' Nolan Jones: Goes on IL due to back strain

Colorado placed Jones (back) on the 10-day injured list Saturday, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.

Jones was scratched from Friday's starting lineup with what has subsequently been deemed a low-back strain. The outfielder's placement on the 10-day IL is retroactive to July 12, so he'll be eligible to return for the series opener against Boston on the first Monday after the All-Star break. The Rockies recalled outfielder Sean Bouchard from Triple-A as part of a series of moves.

  • Rockies' Nolan Jones: Scratched from lineup

Jones was scratched from the Rockies' lineup ahead of Friday's game versus the Mets.

The Rockies haven't yet provided a reason for Jones' removal from Friday's starting nine, but an explanation should be offered shortly. In the meantime, Sam Hilliard will step in to cover left field.

  • Rockies' Nolan Jones: Hitting bench Monday

Jones is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Reds.

The lefty-hitting Jones will retreat to the bench for the series opener in Cincinnati while southpaw Andrew Abbott takes the hill for the Reds. Hunter Goodman will get the start in left field in place of Jones, who is getting on base at a .355 clip but has provided few counting statistics (two home runs, one stolen base, seven RBI, six runs) in his 21 games since he returned from the injured list in mid-June.

  • Rockies' Nolan Jones: Idle Saturday

Jones isn't in the Rockies' lineup for Saturday's game against the Royals, Luke Zahlmann of The Denver Gazette reports.

Jones has gone just 1-for-13 with seven strikeouts over his last four games, and the Rockies will give him a chance to clear his head Saturday. Sam Hilliard will get the nod to start in left field instead while batting ninth.

  • Rockies' Nolan Jones: Breaks out of short slump

Jones went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run Saturday against the White Sox.

Jones entered Saturday's game having collected just one hit across his last 15 at-bats. He ended that short slump with a two-run homer in the fifth inning, his second long ball since returning from the injured list June 14. Jones is still working on finding his rhythm this season after missing around six weeks due to knee and back injuries, but he is now hitting .250 since being activated.
