  • Cardinals' Andre Pallante: Take defeat in Game 1 of twin bill

Pallante (4-4) took the loss against Kansas City in Game 1 of Wednesday's doubleheader, allowing four runs on six hits and no walks while striking out five batters over 6.1 innings. Pallante cruised through four scoreless, one-hit frames before the Royals struck for three runs on four hits in the fifth. The right-hander was allowed to return for the sixth but was pulled after giving up a tiebreaking solo homer to Salvador Perez with one out. Pallante was consequently stuck with the loss, as St. Louis was unable to catch up. Despite the defeat, Pallante recorded his second-longest outing of the campaign while recording exactly five punchouts for his fourth straight appearance.

  • Cardinals' Andre Pallante: Royals-Cardinals postponed Tuesday

Pallante and the Cardinals won't face the Royals on Tuesday after the game was postponed due to inclement weather. The contest will be made up as part of a split doubleheader Wednesday. Pallante will be pushed back a day to start one of the two games of the twin bill and is no longer in line for a two-start week.

  • Cardinals' Andre Pallante: Strong outing in no-decision

Pallante came away with a no-decision in Thursday's win over the Pirates. He allowed one run in seven innings, giving up four hits and striking out five. The right-hander gave up a solo home run to Bryan Reynolds in the fourth, which turned out to be Pallante's only hiccup Thursday. For the third time in his career and the first this season, he went at least seven innings in a start. He's been a dependable option for the Cardinals since being inserted into the rotation in May, pitching to a 3.34 ERA over seven starts. Outside of his starts versus the Astros and Giants, in which he gave up a combined 11 earned runs, Pallante has given up only two earned runs over his other five starts this season.

  • Cardinals' Andre Pallante: Falters versus Astros

Pallante (1-2) allowed six runs on six hits and three walks while striking out one over three innings to take the loss versus the Astros on Tuesday. Pallante dazzled in his first start of the season with six scoreless innings versus the Reds, but the Astros were able to hit him harder. They put up a pair of runs on groundouts in the first inning before rallying for four more runs -- including a three-run blast by Yainer Diaz -- in the third. Pallante is now at a 6.16 ERA, 1.79 WHIP and 11:11 K:BB over 19 innings across 11 appearances (two starts) this season. The Cardinals continue to struggle to fill the No. 5 spot in their rotation while Steven Matz (back) is out, though Pallante has perhaps been their best option so far. If he stays in the rotation, Pallante is projected to make his next start at home versus the Rockies.

  • Cardinals' Andre Pallante: Impresses in first start

Pallante (1-1) earned the win Wednesday over the Reds, allowing three hits and three walks over six scoreless innings. He struck out six. Making his first big-league start since 2022, Pallante was sharp Wednesday, blanking Cincinnati over six innings in the winning effort. The 25-year-old right-hander has made nine appearances out of the bullpen in St. Louis this year, struggling to a 6.30 ERA over 10 innings, though he was solid in four starts with Triple-A Memphis, allowing just four earned runs in 16.1 innings. Pallante certainly did enough to warrant another turn in the Cards' rotation -- he'd currently line up for a road matchup with the Astros early next week.

  • Cardinals' Andre Pallante: Set to start Wednesday

Pallante is slated to start Wednesday's game against the Reds, John Denton of MLB.com reports. Pallante's start will be his first in the big leagues since 2022. The right-hander made nine appearances in relief for St. Louis earlier in the season but he had worked out of the rotation since being optioned to Triple-A Memphis on April 21 prior to being recalled Sunday. In four appearances (three starts) with Memphis, Pallante turned in a 2.20 ERA, 1.68 WHIP and 9:13 K:BB in 16.1 innings.

  • Cardinals' Andre Pallante: Back up to majors

The Cardinals recalled Pallante from Triple-A Memphis on Sunday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. Reliever Nick Robertson (elbow) was placed on the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move. Before being sent down to the minors April 21, Pallante appeared in nine games for the Cardinals, registering a 6.30 ERA and 1.90 WHIP across 10 frames. The 25-year-old right-hander has since been deployed as a starter for Memphis, and he worked 4.1 innings in his most recent outing May 17. He could be used as a spot starter for Wednesday's game against the Reds, according to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

  • Cardinals' Andre Pallante: Candidate to start Saturday

Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Monday that Pallante could be recalled from Triple-A Memphis to start Saturday against the Cubs, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. The Cardinals are moving Matthew Liberatore back to the bullpen after trying him out for a few starts, but the team still has an opening in the rotation while Steven Matz (back) remains on the injured list. Pallante hasn't started a game in the majors since 2022 but has been getting stretched back out at Memphis. His results have been mixed, as he's managed a 2.20 ERA but also an ugly 9:13 K:BB over 16.1 frames. Zack Thompson is the other main candidate to draw Saturday's start.

  • Cardinals' Andre Pallante: Sent down to Triple-A

The Cardinals optioned Pallante to Triple-A Memphis on Sunday. In his last outing Saturday against the Brewers, Pallante gave up three runs (two earned) on five hits and a walk. He has a 6.30 ERA, 1.90 WHIP and 6:5 K:BB over 10 innings to start the season. St. Louis recalled right-hander Nick Robertson in a corresponding move.

  • Cardinals' Andre Pallante: Takes loss Wednesday

Pallante (0-1) took the loss versus the Phillies on Wednesday, allowing two runs on three hits and a walk while failing to record an out. Pallante has served in a low-leverage role so far, picking up one hold over six appearances. He's given up at least one run in three of those games, and he had his worst outing of the season Wednesday. He's now given up five runs on six hits and three walks while striking out four over five innings this season. The Cardinals aren't short on late-inning options, so Pallante is likely to stay in middle relief.

  • Cardinals' Andre Pallante: Decent in September

Pallante allowed one run on four hits over one inning during Saturday's 15-6 win over the Reds. Pallante allowed five runs over 13.2 frames in September, an improvement on the 12 runs (11 earned) he allowed in 13.2 innings during August. The right-hander has seen some high-leverage work in 2023, earning 13 holds, but just four of those have come since the start of August as he's worked in more of a middle-relief assignment. Pallante has a 4.76 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 43:30 K:BB over 68 innings this season, a significant downturn from the 3.17 ERA he recorded over 108 innings as a swingman in 2022.

  • Cardinals' Andre Pallante: Collects win

Pallante (3-1) allowed a run on two hits and a walk while striking out one over 1.1 innings to earn the win Wednesday over the Diamondbacks. Pallante has had a rough July, allowing seven runs over 8.2 innings this month. The right-hander has been scored on in four of his eight appearances in that span, but he was able to emerge with his first win since May 13. He's at a 4.78 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and 31:20 K:BB through 37.2 innings overall. Pallante has added nine holds and five blown saves, though he could move up the leverage ladder a bit if Jordan Hicks is traded before Tuesday's deadline. Giovanny Gallegos would have the most to gain in that scenario.

  • Cardinals' Andre Pallante: Opening Game 1 on Saturday

Pallante will open Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader against Washington, John Denton of MLB.com reports. After Friday's game was suspended during the third inning, Pallante will take the mound once action resumes Saturday. The 24-year-old righty has pitched at least two innings just once this season, so he'll presumably be relieved relatively quickly.

  • Cardinals' Andre Pallante: Handed first loss

Pallante (2-1) allowed a run on two hits and struck out one without walking a batter over one inning, taking the loss Monday versus the Marlins. Pallante allowed an inherited runner to score the tying run, then gave up another run in the seventh inning in relief of Miles Mikolas. Over 9.1 innings in July, Pallante was tagged for four runs on eight hits and eight walks. He's been fortunate to avoid taking a loss prior to Monday, as he has an uninspiring 4.11 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 28:16 K:BB through 30.2 big-league innings this season. The right-hander has added eight holds and three blown saves -- he's seen more high-leverage work with Ryan Helsley (forearm) on the injured list.

  • Cardinals' Andre Pallante: Recalled from Triple-A

The Cardinals recalled Pallante from Triple-A Memphis on Tuesday, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports. Pallante pitched well during his three-week stay at Memphis and will now look to get back to his 2022 form. He had surrendered seven earned runs on 12 hits and four walks over 8.1 innings this season with St. Louis prior to his mid-April demotion.

  • Cardinals' Andre Pallante: Optioned to Triple-A

Pallante was optioned Tuesday to Triple-A Memphis. JoJo Romero will join the Cardinals' bullpen in a corresponding move. Pallante served up a grand slam to Pavin Smith on Monday night and has allowed seven earned runs on 12 hits and four walks through 8.1 major-league innings for the year.

  • Cardinals' Andre Pallante: Handed loss Thursday

Pallante (6-5) allowed a run on two hits in one-third of an inning, taking the loss Thursday versus the Nationals. Pallante's had a rough start to September, allowing six runs over 1.2 innings across three appearances. He was tagged with his first loss since July 5, which was back when he was still in the Cardinals' rotation. The right-hander's misstep Thursday was discouraging, but he still has a 3.27 ERA with a 1.41 WHIP and 69:35 K:BB through 99 innings across 38 appearances (10 starts). He's added seven holds, but he'll likely see lower-leverage assignments while he's struggling.

  • Cardinals' Andre Pallante: Earns win over Yankees

Pallante (5-4) allowed three hits and two walks over four scoreless innings to earn the win Friday over the Yankees. Making his first relief appearance since June 15, Pallante delivered an excellent outing to keep the Cardinals in the contest after a lackluster start from Dakota Hudson. Manager Oli Marmol hinted after the game that Hudson's spot in the rotation could be up for grabs, with Pallante the most likely candidate to fill it, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports. Pallante has excelled in a versatile role this year, logging a 3.03 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 61:29 K:BB across 86 innings in 29 appearances (10 starts). Hudson's spot in the rotation comes up again next week in Colorado, which would likely be a daunting assignment for either pitcher.

  • Cardinals' Andre Pallante: Lasts four innings versus Toronto

Pallante tossed four innings, allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out four in Tuesday's loss to the Blue Jays. He did not factor into the decision. Pallante surrendered a two-run homer to Vladimir Guerrero and an RBI single to Matt Chapman in the bottom of the first frame, accounting for all the damage against him in this one. The right-hander was replaced after the fourth inning, leaving the game in a 3-3 tie. Pallante has had a difficult July, producing a 7.85 ERA over four starts during the month. The tough stretch has his season numbers up to a 3.53 ERA and 1.47 WHIP with 51 strikeouts over 74 innings in 27 appearances, including nine starts.

  • Cardinals' Andre Pallante: Collects third win

Pallante (3-4) earned the win during Friday's 7-3 victory over Cincinnati, allowing three runs on six hits and three walks with five strikeouts in five innings. Pallante surrendered two runs on three hits in the first inning and another run on three baserunners in the third but retired nine of 10 Reds in the other three frames. The five strikeouts matched a season best for the 23-year-old rookie, though Pallante has struggled through three July starts with 13 runs and 29 baserunners permitted through 14.1 innings. His season numbers are still solid and feature a 3.34 ERA and 1.46 WHIP with 47 strikeouts in 70 innings across 26 appearances and eight starts.
