  • Yankees' Clarke Schmidt: Dominant in no-decision

Schmidt did not factor into the decision in Monday's 1-0 loss to the Angels, allowing four hits and no walks over 7.2 scoreless innings. He struck out three. The New York right-hander required 97 pitches to secure his second straight quality start and fifth overall. Despite collecting only three Ks, Schmidt managed to generate 13 whiffs while allowing just one extra-base hit -- a Christian Moore triple in the eighth. With this performance, Schmidt lowered his ERA from 3.60 to 3.16 across 62.2 total innings. He currently lines up to make his next start in the Yankees' upcoming weekend home series against the Orioles.

  • Yankees' Clarke Schmidt: Silences Royals in third win

Schmidt (3-3) tallied the win Wednesday against the Royals after giving up two hits and three walks in six shutout innings. He struck out seven. It was Schmidt's second scoreless start in his last three outings, and he's now thrown at least six frames in five of his last seven appearances. The 29-year-old right-hander scattered two singles, and he came one strikeout shy of tying his season high. Schmidt holds a quality 3.60 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 57:24 K:BB across 55 innings, and he'll remain worth deploying in the vast majority of fantasy formats versus the Angels in his next scheduled start.

  • Yankees' Clarke Schmidt: Strikes out eight in loss

Schmidt (2-3) took the loss Wednesday against the Guardians, allowing three runs on seven hits and a walk over 5.2 innings. He struck out eight. The Guardians got to Schmidt early Wednesday, scoring three runs on four hits during the opening frame, highlighted by an Angel Martinez two-run homer. While Schmidt managed to keep Cleveland off the board over his final 4.2 innings while matching a season high with eight strikeouts, the Yankees couldn't climb out of the early hole in an eventual 4-0 loss. The 29-year-old Schmidt sports a 4.04 ERA through nine starts (49 innings) this year with a 1.29 WHIP and 50:21 K:BB. He's currently scheduled to face the Royals on the road next week.

  • Yankees' Clarke Schmidt: Tosses six scoreless frames

Schmidt (2-2) earned the win over the Angels on Wednesday, allowing four hits and issuing one walk while striking out four batters over six scoreless innings. Schmidt gave up just one extra-base hit (a double) in the outing and racked up 13 whiffs while throwing 69 of 99 pitches for strikes. It was the first time this season that he ended a start without giving up any runs, and the right-hander recorded his fourth quality start across his past five appearances. Schmidt has just two victories through eight outings, but he's pitched decently well with a 3.95 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 42:20 K:BB through 43.1 innings.

  • Yankees' Clarke Schmidt: Slips up in Colorado

Schmidt (1-2) allowed three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out eight over 4.2 innings to take the loss versus the Rockies on Friday. Schmidt had turned in three straight quality starts, but that stretch ended with a shorter outing Friday. He needed 97 pitches (62 strikes) to get 14 outs, and he ended up with the loss when Tim Hill couldn't work his way out of a two-on, two-out jam Schmidt left him in the fifth inning. The poor performance has Schmidt at a 4.58 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 38:19 K:BB across 37.1 innings over seven starts this season, though the eight strikeouts were a season high. The right-hander's next start is projected to be on the road versus the Angels.

  • Yankees' Clarke Schmidt: Quality start despite shaky control

Schmidt didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Mets, allowing two runs on three hits and five walks over six innings. He struck out five. The five free passes tied Schmidt's career high, but he was able to limit the damage and deliver his third straight quality start on 88 pitches (53 strikes). The right-hander will carry a 4.41 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 30:17 K:BB through 32.2 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come at home next week against the Rangers.

  • Yankees' Clarke Schmidt: Fans four in quality start

Schmidt did not factor in the decision during Tuesday's win over San Diego. He yielded two runs on seven hits and a walk over six innings while striking out four. Schmidt tossed three scoreless frames before coughing up a pair of runs in the fourth inning. He was scratched from his scheduled outing Saturday against the Rays but came back Tuesday to deliver his first quality start of the season. Schmidt threw 53 of 85 pitches for strikes and generated seven whiffs, tying a season low. His ERA dropped to 4.79 alongside a 19:10 K:BB through 20.2 innings. Schmidt's next start will likely be on the road against the Athletics or Mariners.

  • Yankees' Clarke Schmidt: Not starting Saturday

Schmidt was scratched from his scheduled start Saturday against the Rays due to left side soreness, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports. According to Kirschner, manager Aaron Boone said the right-hander underwent an MRI on Friday that came back clean, so the Yankees don't believe the side issue is anything serious. That said, the injury was enough for the Yankees to err on the side of caution and skip Schmidt's turn in the rotation. Ryan Yarbrough will open Saturday's game in what should end up being an impromptu bullpen day for the Yankees. Schmidt, meanwhile, will look to make his next start Tuesday against San Diego.

  • Yankees' Clarke Schmidt: Fans six in no-decision

Schmidt did not factor into the decision in the Yankees' 5-1 win over the Blue Jays in Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader. He allowed one run on one hit and four walks while striking out six over five innings. Schmidt limited the Blue Jays to five baserunners while generating 14 whiffs on 90 pitches (52 strikes), and his lone blemish came in the third inning on an Anthony Santander solo home run. It was Schimdt's best start since being activated from the 15-day injured list April 16, and through three starts he has a 5.52 ERA and 1.43 WHIP over 14.2 innings. Schmidt will look for his first win of 2025 next weekend at home against Tampa Bay.

  • Yankees' Clarke Schmidt: Concedes five runs in loss

Schmidt (0-1) took the loss Monday at Cleveland, allowing five runs on seven hits and three walks over four innings. He struck out seven. Despite inducing a respectable 13 whiffs in this 80-pitch outing, Schmidt struggled, coughing up four extra-base hits (two homers, two doubles). Things went off the rails for the New York right-hander in the third inning, when Jose Ramirez and Kyle Manzardo popped back-to-back homers to fuel a four-run, four-hit frame. After two starts, Schmidt now sports a 7.45 ERA, 1.66 WHIP and 9:5 K:BB across 9.2 innings. After shoulder fatigue delayed his season start, he will look to continue shaking off the rust in his next start against Toronto at home this weekend.

  • Yankees' Clarke Schmidt: Throws 73 pitches in season debut

Schmidt didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against the Royals after allowing three runs on four hits and two walks in 5.2 innings. He struck out two. Given that the right-hander missed the first couple of weeks of the regular season with shoulder fatigue, it was encouraging to see him be able to throw 73 pitches in his first start for the Yankees this year. Salvador Perez drove in a run on a single in the first inning, and the Royals plated two more in the fifth. Just one of Schmidt's hits allowed went for extra bases, however, and he'll search for more length when he takes the hill in his next scheduled start in Cleveland early next week.

  • Yankees' Clarke Schmidt: Confirmed to start Wednesday

Schmidt (shoulder) will return from the 15-day injured list to start Wednesday's game against the Royals, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports. The Yankees will wait until Wednesday to officially reinstate Schmidt from the IL, but he's been given the green light to make his 2025 debut after turning in a pair of strong rehab starts at Double-A Somerset. In his most recent outing Thursday, Schmidt struck out four over four scoreless innings while allowing three hits and and no walks. He tossed 61 pitches in that start, and while Schmidt will likely have his workload monitored closely Wednesday, he should be capable of reaching five innings if he's efficient.

  • Yankees' Clarke Schmidt: Return imminent

Schmidt (shoulder) will return from the injured list during the Yankees' upcoming series against the Royals, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. The club hasn't confirmed exactly when Schmidt will make his season debut, but it will be on either Tuesday or Wednesday. The 29-year-old righty dazzled during his two rehab starts at Double-A Somerset, throwing 7.1 shutout innings and striking out 11 batters and walking only one.

  • Yankees' Clarke Schmidt: Solid work in rehearsal

Schmidt (shoulder) completed four scoreless innings while allowing three hits and no walks to go along with four strikeouts in a rehab appearance with Double-A Somerset on Thursday, Matt Kardos of MLB.com reports. This was projected to be Schmidt's final rehab appearance before he is activated from the injured list to rejoin the Yankees' rotation. He needed only 61 pitches, 45 of which went for strikes, to complete his four frames.

  • Yankees' Clarke Schmidt: Final rehab start coming Thursday

Schmidt (shoulder) will make what's expected to be his final rehab start Thursday, either at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre or Double-A Somerset, Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports. Schmidt looked good in his first rehab outing with Somerset on Saturday, striking out seven over 3.1 scoreless frames. He threw 51 pitches in that start and will look to up his pitch count Thursday. As long as Schmidt bounces back well from Thursday's outing, he'll be lined up for his season debut with the Yankees as soon as April 15 against the Royals.

  • Yankees' Clarke Schmidt: Beginning rehab assignment

Schmidt (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment at Double-A Somerset on Saturday. Schmidt has built up to 46 pitches while pitching in simulated games, and he'll likely require a couple of starts in the minor leagues to get up to a proper starter's workload. Barring any setbacks, he remains on track to return in mid-April.

  • Yankees' Clarke Schmidt: Throws three-inning simulated game

Schmidt (shoulder) threw 46 pitches over a three-inning simulated game Monday, Meredith Marakovits of YES Network reports. Schmidt will throw again Saturday, although it's not clear yet in what capacity. The right-hander is working his way back from rotator cuff tendinitis and is tracking toward a season debut in mid-April.

  • Yankees' Clarke Schmidt: Officially placed on IL

The Yankees placed Schmidt (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list Wednesday. Schmidt has been battling rotator cuff tendinitis since mid-March, but he's felt much better during his recent sessions of live batting practice. He'll take advantage of his time on the IL to build up to a starter's workload and should be able to return close to when he's first eligible April 8.

  • Yankees' Clarke Schmidt: Headed for IL

Schmidt (shoulder) will begin the season on the injured list, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports. Schmidt said he felt good following his live BP session Thursday, but he simply doesn't have enough time to stretch out to a starter's workload. Assuming he doesn't suffer any setbacks, he shouldn't require much more than a minimum-length stay on the IL.

  • Yankees' Clarke Schmidt: Likely to start season on IL

Schmidt (shoulder) is likely to begin the season on the 15-day injured list, Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports. Schmidt felt good during a 32-pitch live batting practice session Thursday and recovered well Friday. However, he admitted that taking his first turn in the regular-season rotation would "handcuff" the club since he's not fully stretched out, putting extra pressure on the bullpen. As long as he continues to trend in a positive direction, Schmidt's stint on the IL should be brief. With the right-hander out, both Carlos Carrasco and Will Warren would be part of the Yankees' Opening Day rotation.
