  • Rays' Alex Faedo: Shut down again

Faedo (shoulder) has been shut down from throwing due to neck and shoulder tightness, MLB.com reports. Faedo was scheduled to throw live batting practice Tuesday to begin a spring-training-type buildup. It's unclear when he'll be able to begin throwing again.

  • Rays' Alex Faedo: Ramping up

Faedo (shoulder) is scheduled to throw live batting practice May 6, MLB.com reports. Faedo has been sidelined since March 21 due to the shoulder injury and is restarting his ramp-up process. He'll be out until at least late May, though he'll serve as a multi-inning reliever upon his return and may not need a full 30-day rehab assignment to be deemed MLB ready.

  • Rays' Alex Faedo: Transferred to 60-day IL

The Rays transferred Faedo (shoulder) to the 60-day injured list Friday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Faedo has been battling through right shoulder discomfort since spring training, and his move to the 60-day IL means he likely won't return until late May or early June. The move makes room on the Rays' 40-man roster for Chandler Simpson, who was called up from Triple-A Durham on Friday.

  • Rays' Alex Faedo: Opens season on IL

The Rays placed Faedo on the 15-day injured list Thursday due to right shoulder inflammation. Faedo opened the season on the shelf after reporting discomfort in his shoulder following his final Grapefruit League appearance March 12. He's eligible to return from the IL beginning next Tuesday, but since he's currently shut down from throwing, Faedo is likely multiple weeks away from making his Rays debut.

  • Rays' Alex Faedo: Headed to IL with shoulder issue

Faedo will begin the season on the 15-day injured list due to a right shoulder injury, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports. Rays manager Kevin Cash said that an MRI on Faedo's shoulder didn't reveal anything "too alarming," but the right-hander will be shut down for a bit. Faedo had been in line for an Opening Day bullpen spot but could now be sidelined into May.

  • Rays' Alex Faedo: Healthy for spring training

Faedo (shoulder) tossed a live batting practice session Wednesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. As a member of the Tigers last season, Faedo didn't pitch after Aug. 20 due to a strained right shoulder, but his ability to throw a live BP session in the early stages of spring training confirms that he's healthy. The 29-year-old right-hander will be competing for a spot in the Tampa Bay bullpen after turning in a 3.61 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 55:28 K:BB in 57.1 innings over his 37 appearances for the Tigers in 2024. Faedo doesn't have any minor-league options remaining, so the Rays would have to expose him to waivers if he isn't kept on the Opening Day roster or placed on the injured list to begin the season.

  • Rays' Alex Faedo: Traded to Tampa Bay

The Rays acquired Faedo from the Tigers on Monday in exchange for Enderson Delgado and cash considerations, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. Faedo had been removed from the Tigers' 40-man roster and will now join a new organization. The right-hander is out of minor-league options, so the Rays will need to carry him on their Opening Day roster or put him through the waivers process. Faedo has a career 5.00 ERA over 30 starts and 3.44 ERA over 34 relief appearances at the big-league level.

  • Tigers' Alex Faedo: Moved to 60-day IL

The Tigers transferred Faedo (shoulder) to the 60-day injured list Friday. Faedo was placed on the 15-day injured list Aug. 25 with a strained right shoulder, and the injury is severe enough to keep him sidelined for the remainder of the regular season. He's been administered a PRP injection but is expected to have a normal offseason. In 57.1 innings with the Tigers this year, Faedo logged a 3.61 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP.

  • Tigers' Alex Faedo: Shut down with shoulder issue

The Tigers reinstated Faedo (personal) from the paternity list Sunday and placed him on the 15-day injured list with a right shoulder strain. Faedo is back with the Tigers after he spent the maximum three games away from the team to welcome a new addition to his family, but the right-hander had been apparently dealing with the injury prior to his recent leave of absence. His placement on the IL is retroactive to Thursday, so he'll be eligible for reinstatement as soon as Sept. 6. While operating out of the bullpen and serving as an occasional opener for the Tigers this season, Faedo has accrued a 3.61 ERA and 1.34 WHIP across 57.1 innings.

  • Tigers' Alex Faedo: Goes on paternity list

The Tigers placed Faedo on the paternity list Thursday. Faedo will miss at least one and as many as three games as he welcomes a new member to the family. He'll cede his spot on the active roster to left-hander Sean Guenther, who was recalled from Triple-A Toledo.

  • Tigers' Alex Faedo: Opening Tuesday's game

Faedo will serve as the Tigers' opening pitcher during Tuesday's game against the Cubs, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. Faedo is expected to handle one or two innings before turning the game over to bulk reliever Bryan Sammons. Though Faedo has allowed just one run in 3.2 innings during August, he's walked eight batters in that span. He has a 3.72 ERA over 55.2 innings on the season.

  • Tigers' Alex Faedo: Opening again Thursday

Faedo will work as the Tigers' opening pitcher Thursday against the Mariners, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports. Faedo has proven to be effective while serving as an opener, throwing 2.2 scoreless innings across his last two opening assignments. Once he exits the game, Kenta Maeda is expected to take over as the Tigers' bulk reliever.

  • Tigers' Alex Faedo: Drawing opener assignment Sunday

Faedo will serve as the Tigers' opening pitcher for Sunday's game against the Royals. Faedo will be making his third start of the season, but he's pitched just two and one innings in those outings and will likely be in store for a similar workload Sunday. Once Faedo exits the contest, left-hander Brant Hurter is expected to take over and serve as Detroit's bulk reliever in what will be his MLB debut.

  • Tigers' Alex Faedo: Takes another loss Tuesday

Faedo (5-3) allowed two runs on two hits across 1.2 innings of relief to take the loss Tuesday against the Guardians. He struck out one. Faedo followed opener Tyler Holton and didn't have much luck as he continued his recent struggles. After notching wins in five straight decisions between mid-April and July 20, Faedo has now taken the loss in consecutive appearances out of the bullpen. Over his last eight outings, the righty has allowed eight runs across 11.1 innings. Faedo has still been mostly solid this season with a 3.81 ERA and should be able to get back on track soon.

  • Tigers' Alex Faedo: Takes loss as opener Sunday

Faedo (5-2) allowed a run on two hits across an inning of work to take the loss Sunday against the Twins. He struck out three. Faedo served as Detroit's opener Sunday and was impressive missing bats, though he still sustained his first loss since April 4. The righty had gone 5-0 after that until Sunday's defeat. Despite the stumble, Faedo has been solid in his relief role for the Tigers all season, posting a 3.58 ERA and striking out 48 batters across 50.1 innings. He should continue to occupy a key spot in the bullpen moving forward.

  • Tigers' Alex Faedo: Opening Sunday's contest

Faedo will serve as the Tigers' opening pitcher for Sunday's game against the Twins, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports. Faedo will make his second start of the season Sunday, though he'll likely be limited to one or two innings before exiting the contest. It's unclear if the Tigers will have a bullpen game or utilize a bulk reliever, but Kenta Maeda would be the likeliest candidate to cover multiple innings should Detroit opt to go the latter route.

  • Tigers' Alex Faedo: Ready for rehab assignment

Faedo (hip) is scheduled to join Triple-A Toledo this week to begin a rehab assignment, MLB.com reports. Faedo has been on the injured list for just under two weeks with right hip inflammation, so he'll likely need just one or two rehab appearances before he's cleared to rejoin the Detroit bullpen. After being deployed mostly in middle relief or long relief earlier in the season, Faedo had moved his way into higher-leverage spots prior to landing on the IL. In his last 11 appearances before being deactivated, Faedo notched one win and six holds.

  • Tigers' Alex Faedo: Ineffective again Thursday

Faedo allowed three runs on three hits and a walk across 1.2 innings of relief in Thursday's 9-1 loss to the Blue Jays. He struck out one. After starting the season with a 2.25 ERA across his first 14 appearances, Faedo has allowed runs in his last three outings, and he has a 9.00 ERA during that stretch. The righty was a middling starter the last two years, and while he's looked a little better out of the bullpen, he may be regressing closer to his career 4.67 ERA. Faedo doesn't have a ton of fantasy value in his current middle-relief role, particularly given his recent struggles.

  • Tigers' Alex Faedo: Logs two scoreless innings Monday

Faedo pitched two scoreless innings of relief in Monday's 5-0, 10-inning win over the Mets. He allowed a hit and a walk, while striking out three. Detroit needed some bullpen length to get the contest to extra innings and Faedo delivered. The righty has now logged 3.2 scoreless innings across two appearances this year, and it looks like he'll be asked to serve in a long-relief role moving forward. While Faedo may provide the Tigers a boost in this capacity, his fantasy value figures to be more up and down, as he'll have an unpredictable path to the occasional win or hold.

  • Tigers' Alex Faedo: Will make Opening Day roster

Faedo will make the Tigers' Opening Day roster in a bullpen role, Julie Kreuz of MLB.com reports. Faedo pitched well this spring, compiling a 1.35 ERA across 13.1 innings, and it was enough to secure his first Opening Day roster spot in the majors. The one-time first-round pick hasn't found his footing as an MLB starter yet, though he could emerge as an effective reliever if his stuff plays up. However, Faedo likely won't see enough high-leverage work initially to warrant fantasy attention.
