Austin Martin worked as a utility player in his first stint in the majors holding his own at the plate (94 wRC+). He was regarded as a top prospect as the fifth overall pick in 2020, but he hasn't lived up to that billing given his lack of power (.099 ISO last year in the majors). He does display strong command of the strike zone with low strikeout and strong walk rates in his career (though he drew just 7.8% BB% in the majors). He has above-average sprint speed, so he could add some stolen bases. His speed makes him an option in center field, but he graded poorly by advanced metrics. He's not seen as a strong glove at second base either, but his versatility could land him a utility job. Given his lack of power and clear position, it's hard to envision him winning an everyday job but at age 26 next season he could improve significantly given his pedigree.

Martin is battling for a reserve spot on the roster, and he could be a key reserve since he can play both center field and second base.
