Rays' Garrett Acton: Dispatched to minor-league camp
The Rays reassigned Acton to minor-league camp Monday.
Acton reached the big leagues in 2023 with the Athletics and made six appearances out of the bullpen, but he was released later that summer after he required Tommy John surgery. The right-hander caught on with Tampa Bay in December 2023 on a two-year, minor-league deal, and after spending his first season in the organization rehabbing his elbow, he's ready to pitch again in 2025. Look for Acton to open the season in the bullpen at Triple-A Durham.

Rays' Garrett Acton: Makes spring debut
Acton (elbow) struck out two and gave up one earned run on one hit over an inning of relief Friday in the Rays' 6-4 loss to the Red Sox.
Acton made his big-league debut with the Athletics in 2023, but he was limited to just six appearances before getting sent back to the minors and then suffering an elbow injury that required Tommy John surgery. He was released soon after sustaining the injury and then caught on with the Rays in December 2023 on a two-year, minor-league deal. After spending all of last season completing his rehab program, Acton doesn't appear to be operating with any limitations in spring training. The 26-year-old right-hander is expected to open the 2025 season at Triple-A Durham.

Rays' Garrett Acton: Gets deal from Rays
Acton signed a two-year, minor-league contract with the Rays on Monday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Acton was released by the Athletics in July after it was determined that he needed Tommy John surgery. He won't pitch in 2024 but will be invited to spring training in 2025. The 25-year-old was knocked around during his brief time in Oakland but boasts a 33 percent strikeout rate during his time in the minors.

Garrett Acton: Let go by Oakland
The Athletics released Acton (undisclosed) on Wednesday.
Though Acton had been on Triple-A Las Vegas' 7-day injured list since June 14 with an unspecified injury, his release comes as somewhat of a surprise, given that the 25-year-old had been regarded as a promising relief prospect. Before getting hurt while pitching for Las Vegas, Acton made six appearances out of the Oakland bullpen earlier this season, posting a 12.71 ERA and 2.47 WHIP in 5.2 innings. The transaction opened up a spot on the Athletics' 40-man roster, but the organization could still look to bring Acton back on a minor-league contract if he can't fetch a better deal elsewhere.

Athletics' Garrett Acton: Sidelined at Triple-A
Triple-A Las Vegas placed Acton on its 7-day injured list Wednesday due to an unspecified injury.
Acton's move to the IL came three days after he was blasted for seven earned runs on five hits and two walks in just one inning for Las Vegas. The Athletics haven't provided an explanation for Acton's injury, but even if it proves to be minor, it'll push back any potential return to the big leagues for the right-hander. Acton made five relief appearances for Oakland earlier in the season, giving up eight earned runs over 5.2 innings.
