  • Bryse Wilson: Reaches free agency

Wilson elected free agency Monday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Wilson passed through waivers unclaimed after the Brewers booted him from their 40-man roster, but he will head into free agency after refusing an outright assignment. The right-hander posted a 4.04 ERA and 82:31 K:BB across 104.2 innings in 2024 while splitting time between the rotation and bullpen.

  • Brewers' Bryse Wilson: Might be back Wednesday

Wilson (oblique) could be activated from the 15-day injured list as soon as Wednesday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Wilson got through a multi-inning simulated game Monday with no problems, clearing the way for his return. He's been shelved for most of this month with a right oblique strain but is ready to return and state his case to be included on the Brewers' playoff roster.

  • Brewers' Bryse Wilson: Set to resume throwing

Wilson (oblique) will throw a bullpen session Sunday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Wilson landed on the injured list Sept. 3 and his upcoming bullpen session will mark his first time throwing since. He should have a chance to return before the close of the regular season, barring a setback.

  • Brewers' Bryse Wilson: To IL with strained oblique

The Brewers placed Wilson on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with a right oblique strain, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Wilson evidently must have tweaked his oblique at some point during a 3.1-inning relief appearance in Sunday's extra-innings loss to the Reds. He will be eligible to return Sept. 17, but it's not yet clear whether he will have a chance to be ready by that date.

  • Brewers' Bryse Wilson: Sharp in relief

Wilson pitched four innings of relief in Wednesday's win versus the Cubs, allowing one earned run on one hit and zero walks while striking out three. He did not factor into the decision. Rob Zastryzny opened the game for the Brewers but only lasted one inning, allowing one earned run on four hits while throwing 38 pitches. This forced Wilson to throw multiple innings for the first time since July 6. The right-hander was up to the task, however, allowing just a single baserunner in four innings of work. With the Milwaukee rotation still banged up, the 26-year-old will likely operate in a bulk relief role moving forward.

  • Brewers' Bryse Wilson: Moving to bullpen

Manager Pat Murphy said Thursday that Wilson will pitch out of the bullpen going forward, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Following the acquisition of Aaron Civale from Tampa Bay, Wilson will end up as the odd man out of Milwaukee's rotation. The 26-year-old owns a 4.27 ERA and 1.28 WHIP through 78 innings on the season, though his numbers drop to a 3.72 ERA and 1.10 WHIP in his 11 appearances as a reliever. He'll likely be asked to handle a multi-inning role as he moves to the Brewers' bullpen, and he could return to the rotation if another one of Milwaukee's starters gets injured.

  • Brewers' Bryse Wilson: Yields five runs in bulk role

Wilson did not factor into the decision in Monday's 8-7 loss to the Rockies, allowing five runs on seven hits and two walks over four innings. He struck out three. After pitching to a 5.19 ERA across 26 innings in June, Wilson continued his run of poor performance in Coors Field. The Milwaukee right-hander allowed five or more runs for the third time in his last five appearances. He now sports a 4.27 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and a 62:28 K:BB over 78 innings this season. Things aren't going to get easier for Wilson, as he's currently scheduled to make his next outing versus the Dodgers in Los Angeles. It is currently unknown whether he will follow an opener again.

  • Brewers' Bryse Wilson: Slated for bulk relief

Wilson will be used as a bulk reliever in Monday's game versus the Rockies, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. The Brewers often use an opener ahead of Wilson, and Monday will be no different with reliever Rob Zastryzny slated to take the ball first. Wilson tossed six shutout frames in bulk relief his last time out Tuesday, picking up a win against the Rangers.

  • Brewers' Bryse Wilson: Spins six scoreless

Wilson (5-3) picked up the win Tuesday against the Rangers, allowing three hits with no walks across six scoreless innings. He struck out four. For the fourth time in his last six appearances, Wilson worked in bulk relief, taking the mound in the third inning after Hoby Milner opened the contest. Still, Wilson was able to complete six innings for the first time since May 6 as part of his best outing as a Brewer. The 26-year-old has been incredibly volatile across his last four appearances, yielding at least five runs twice but giving up no runs in the other pair of games. Overall, Wilson owns a 3.89 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP over 74.0 innings. While it's unclear if he'll follow an opener again, he's on track to pitch in Colorado early next week.

  • Brewers' Bryse Wilson: Following opener Tuesday

Wilson will pitch behind opener Hoby Milner against the Rangers on Tuesday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Wilson was scheduled to start Tuesday's contest but will instead follow a lefty opener. The right-hander has failed to last five frames in five of his past eight outings, so the strategy could improve his chances of qualifying for a victory. However, Wilson has a 5.68 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 28:16 K:BB during that eight-start stretch.

  • Brewers' Bryse Wilson: Allows three homers in no-decision

Wilson did not factor into the decision in Thursday's loss to the Padres, allowing five runs on seven hits and two walks over 4.2 innings while striking out five. Wilson failed to retire five of the first seven batters he faced to open the contest, surrendering back-to-back homers to Manny Machado and Jackson Merrill in the first to put the Brewers in an early 4-1 hole. The right-hander would settle in over the next three frames before coughing up another long ball in the fifth. It was Wilson's first time this season in which he allowed multiple home runs in a start and he's given up at least five runs in two of his last three outings. He's also walked multiple batters in three consecutive starts.

  • Brewers' Bryse Wilson: Earns victory in bulk-relief role

Wilson (4-3) earned the win over Cincinnati on Saturday, pitching 5.1 scoreless innings during which he allowed three hits and two walks while striking out six batters. Milwaukee opted to have Jared Koenig open the contest, and he notched two outs before Wilson entered with a runner on first base in the first inning. The right-hander closed that frame successfully, then kept the Reds off the scoreboard for five more innings before turning the game over to the bullpen. Wilson's excellent outing earned him his first victory since May 24. After opening the campaign in the bullpen, Wilson has been bouncing between a traditional starting role and bulk relief lately, and in either capacity he's pitched pretty well, giving up three or fewer earned runs in all but one of his 17 appearances this season.

  • Brewers' Bryse Wilson: Set for bulk-relief duty

Wilson is in line to serve as a bulk reliever Saturday versus the Reds behind opening pitcher Jared Koenig, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Wilson has now alternated between traditional starts and bulk relief over his last six appearances. The right-hander had turned in a 3.00 ERA over a stretch of 11 appearances spanning 48 innings from April 10 through June 3, but he had his worst outing of the season in a loss to the Tigers this past Sunday, when he surrendered seven earned runs over 4.1 frames.

  • Brewers' Bryse Wilson: Serviceable in relief

Wilson (3-2) took the loss Monday against Philadelphia, allowing three earned runs on six hits and one walk while striking out one in 5.2 innings of work out of the bullpen. Jared Koenig opened the game for Milwaukee, pitching one scoreless inning before giving way to Wilson in the second. Wilson surrendered a solo home run to David Dahl in the fourth inning, marking the fifth consecutive game in which the right-hander has allowed a home run. The 26-year-old has been consistent in minimizing the damage, however, allowing three earned runs or fewer in all of those starts. Wilson has worked behind Jared Koenig in two of his last three appearances, and it remains to be seen if he will start his next time out, tentatively scheduled for this weekend in Detroit.

  • Brewers' Bryse Wilson: Working behind opener Monday

Wilson is expected to be deployed as a bulk reliever behind opening pitcher Jared Koenig in Monday's game in Philadelphia, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. Wilson started in his last turn through the rotation Wednesday against the Cubs, but he'll work behind Koenig for the second time in three outings after he previously followed the left-hander May 24 in Boston. In that game, Wilson struck out seven while giving up two runs across 5.1 innings en route to picking up the win, so he could still offer some value to fantasy managers Monday despite not operating as a traditional starter. Wilson tentatively lines up for two outings this week, with his second turn through the rotation set to come Sunday in Detroit.

  • Brewers' Bryse Wilson: Takes no-decision Wednesday

Wilson allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits and two walks while striking out one over four innings in a no-decision versus the Cubs on Wednesday. Wilson was just OK in his return to a starting role after making his last appearance behind an opener. This was the first time all year the right-hander has allowed more than two runs in an outing. He's pitched to a 3.19 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 39:19 K:BB over 48 innings across 14 appearances (seven starts) in 2024. Wilson is projected for a tough road matchup versus the Phillies in his next appearance, though the Brewers haven't revealed if that will be as a starter or a primary pitcher.

  • Brewers' Bryse Wilson: Could follow opener

Wilson isn't starting Friday against the Red Sox but is likely to follow opener Jared Koenig. Wilson was initially listed as the Brewers' starter, a role he's jumped into with Milwaukee's rotation hampered by injuries, but Jared Koenig is now beginning the game on the mound instead. Considering Koenig hasn't worked more than 2.2 innings in a game this year, it's expected that he'll just open the contest, leaving Wilson to operate in long relief.

  • Brewers' Bryse Wilson: Falls just short of five frames

Wilson allowed two runs on five hits and one walk while striking out three batters over 4.2 innings in a no-decision against Houston on Saturday. Wilson was given a 4-1 lead going into the bottom of the fifth inning, but he was pulled after giving up a one-out solo homer to Jake Meyers and a two-out single to Jose Altuve. The hook eliminated the right-hander's chance to qualify for the win, and it marked the second straight outing in which he's failed to go five frames. Still, Wilson has given up a tolerable four runs across 8.2 innings during those two contests, and he's recorded a 2.79 ERA across 38.2 innings on the season.

  • Brewers' Bryse Wilson: No win in scoreless outing

Wilson allowed a hit and three walks over six shutout frames in a no-decision Monday. He struck out six while the Brewers lost to Kansas City. Wilson was in line for a win before the Royals plated three runs in the seventh inning right after he left the contest. The lone hit he gave up was a single and Kansas City never posed much of a threat during his outing. He also generated a season-high 11 whiffs. Wilson dropped his ERA to 2.40 with a 27:10 K:BB through 30 innings. As things stand, he currently projects for a home matchup with St. Louis this weekend.

  • Brewers' Bryse Wilson: Takes tough loss

Wilson (2-1) allowed one run on four hits and two walks over six innings Monday, striking out six and taking a loss against the Rays. Wilson coughed up a run in the first inning but finished his night with five straight scoreless frames. It was the first time this season he finished at least five innings and he dropped his season ERA to 3.00 through 24 innings. Wilson forced 10 whiffs Monday after totaling just nine over his previous three appearances (9.1 innings). Wilson is currently slated to face the Cubs on the road this weekend.
