  • Marlins' Valente Bellozo: Sent back to Triple-A

The Marlins optioned Bellozo to Triple-A Jacksonville on Thursday. Bellozo had a brief stay on the Marlins' active roster, as he'll head back to the minors just a few days after he was called up to make a spot start Monday. The right-hander took a loss against the Mets after giving up one earned run on five hits and two walks over 3.2 innings. He'll cede his spot to Sandy Alcantara (personal), who was reinstated from the paternity list and is on track to make his next start Saturday versus the Nationals.

  • Marlins' Valente Bellozo: Recalled ahead of Monday's start

The Marlins recalled Bellozo from Triple-A Jacksonville on Monday. Bellozo will make a spot start Monday against the Mets in place of Sandy Alcantara, who was placed on the paternity list. The right-handed Bellozo held the Pirates to one run over 4.1 innings in a start on March 29 but will face a better lineup this time around. He's likely to be sent back down to the minors after the game.

  • Marlins' Valente Bellozo: Optioned to Triple-A

The Marlins optioned Bellozo to Triple-A Jacksonville following Saturday's 5-4 extra innings win over the Pirates, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports. Bellozo started Saturday's contest and came away with a no-decision after allowing one run on four hits and two walks while striking out four across 4.1 innings. Miami went through six relievers during the game, so Bellozo's move back to Triple-A will allow the Marlins to replenish their bullpen.

  • Marlins' Valente Bellozo: Recalled from Triple-A

The Marlins recalled Bellozo from Triple-A Jacksonville on Thursday. Bellozo will fill a rotation slot while Ryan Weathers (forearm) and Edward Cabrera (blister) open the season on the injured list. The right-hander is slated to make his season debut Saturday against the Pirates.

  • Marlins' Valente Bellozo: Favorite for rotation spot?

Bellozo has emerged as a leading candidate to open the season in the Marlins' rotation, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. A spot in Miami's rotation opened up once Ryan Weathers suffered a forearm strain Monday, and the reassignment of Janson Junk to minor-league camp Saturday puts Bellozo in a great position to make the Opening Day roster, even though he was optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville himself last week. The 25-year-old righty started 13 games for the Marlins last season, finishing the campaign with a 3.67 ERA and 1.31 WHIP. However, his 5.72 FIP indicates that his performance wasn't nearly as good as his base stats might suggest.

  • Marlins' Valente Bellozo: Optioned to Triple-A

The Marlins optioned Bellozo to Triple-A Jacksonville on Friday. Bellozo camp into camp with a shot to win a rotation spot, but he didn't make a great case for himself in yielding 10 runs in 8.1 innings of work. The 25-year-old remains likely to make some starts for the Marlins this season but will begin the year in the Jacksonville rotation.

  • Marlins' Valente Bellozo: Allows two homers in loss

Bellozo (2-4) took the loss against the Nationals on Saturday, allowing three runs on six hits and one walk with four strikeouts over 5.1 innings. Bellozo was burned by homers in the second and sixth innings and was pulled with a 3-1 deficit at 92 pitches. The 24-year-old's velocity was down on each of his offerings, and he has now failed to complete six innings in nine of 11 outings this season. On the year, he owns a 3.70 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 39:19 K:BB across 58.1 innings and lines up to face Atlanta next weekend.

  • Marlins' Valente Bellozo: Fans four in 5.1 innings

Bellozo did not factor into the decision in Sunday's win against the Mets, allowing two earned runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out four in 5.1 innings. Coming off consecutive scoreless starts, Bellozo wasn't quite as dominant Sunday, allowing seven hits, including a solo home run by Brandon Nimmo in the sixth inning. Still, Bellozo was effective and now sports a 2.45 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 27:8 K:BB in 33 innings (six starts). The 24-year-old owns a modest 7.4 K/9, but his ability to consistently induce weak contact has allowed him to thrive in his rookie season. He will look to keep rolling in his next start, currently scheduled for next weekend against the Cubs.

  • Marlins' Valente Bellozo: Blanks Cincy for first MLB win

Bellozo (1-1) picked up the win in Wednesday's 6-4 victory over the Reds, allowing five hits and two walks over 5.2 scoreless innings. He struck out four. Making his fourth career big-league start, Bellozo fell just short of recording his first career quality start as well as his first win, getting lifted after 92 pitches (56 strikes). The 24-year-old right-hander has given the Marlins at least five innings in each of his outings so far, producing an impressive 3.05 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 19:5 K:BB through 20.2 innings despite a fastball that barely averages 90 mph. It's doubtful he'll be able to keep getting by much longer with smoke and mirrors, but Miami's injury-ravaged rotation will take all the help it can get. Bellozo is scheduled to make his next start on the road early next week in Philadelphia.

  • Marlins' Valente Bellozo: Drawing another start

Bellozo is scheduled to make his next turn through the rotation Wednesday versus the Reds in Miami, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports. Called up from Triple-A Jacksonville on Friday to help fill the opening in the rotation created by the Marlins trading Trevor Rogers to the Orioles earlier in the week, Bellozo got the job done in his start against Atlanta. He took a no-decision in the Marlins' 5-3 loss, covering five innings and striking out five while allowing two earned runs on two hits and two walks. Bellozo has covered exactly five frames in each of his three starts with Miami this season and has posted a 4.20 ERA and 0.93 WHIP while striking out a batter per inning.

  • Marlins' Valente Bellozo: Fans five in no-decision

Bellozo did not factor into the decision in Friday's 5-3 loss to Atlanta, allowing two runs on two hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out five. The Miami right-hander was recalled Friday to make his first start since July 2 after pitching to a 3.21 ERA across 14 innings at Triple-A since his last major league appearance. The 24-year-old tossed 66 pitches before being lifted in the sixth after allowing a leadoff triple to Whit Merrifield. The two earned runs on Bellozo's ledger were Merrifield -- who later scored on an Austin Riley RBI groundout -- and a solo homer allowed to Orlando Arcia in the fifth. If the Marlins rookie sticks in the rotation, his next start would be slated to come against the Reds at home next week.

  • Marlins' Valente Bellozo: Starting Friday's game

Bellozo will be recalled from Triple-A Jacksonville to start Friday's game in Atlanta, Kevin Barral of FishonFirst.com reports. Bellozo is taking the rotation spot vacated by Trevor Rogers, who was traded to the Orioles earlier this week. The right-hander pitched well in two previous starts with the Marlins, allowing five runs with a 10:1 K:BB over 10 innings. He should have a chance to stick in the big-league rotation for the remainder of the season.

  • Marlins' Valente Bellozo: Strikes out eight in loss

Bellozo (0-1) took the loss to the Red Sox on Tuesday, allowing five runs on seven hits and one walk with eight strikeouts over five innings. Bellozo generated a solid 12 swinging strikes on 98 pitches and has walked just one batter over 10 major-league innings. He was burned by two rough frames Tuesday, allowing a two-run single in the first and a three-run home run in the fourth. While it is unclear how long the rookie will remain in Miami's rotation, he tentatively lines up for a favorable matchup against the White Sox this weekend.
