With fellow Reno infielder Jordan Lawlar nursing a hamstring injury, Alexander will move up to the big club after the Diamondbacks lost Ildemaro Vargas to a fractured right foot. Alexander is capable of playing three infield spots as well as center field, but he may see most of his initial action at third base while Eugenio Suarez (hand) is day-to-day. Alexander's removal from the lineup came after news broke that utility infielder Idlemaro Vargas suffered a fractured foot, which will send him to the injured list. Vargas' injury leaves the Diamondbacks thin in the infield, as he was already replacing Eugenio Suarez (hand), who is expected to miss multiple days. Tim Tawa filled in at third base for Vargas in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the White Sox, but if he's called up, Alexander could get playing time at the position until Suarez is deemed ready to return to the field. Alexander owns a .284/.413/.479 line with eight home runs, 41 RBI, 11 steals and 41 runs over 54 games for Reno this season.

Alexander will provide some infield depth while Ketel Marte (ankle) is banged up. The rookie slashed .297/.374/.446 versus left-handed pitching during his previous stint in the majors this season, so he's likely to see the majority of his playing time against southpaws. Alexander will crack the lineup Wednesday against a right-hander in Rockies rookie Tanner Gordon, filling in for Marte at second base and batting eighth.
