  • Guardians' Daniel Schneemann: Moves into utility role

Schneemann will start at third base and bat seventh in Sunday's game against the Rays. Though he'll enter the lineup Sunday while third baseman Jose Ramirez gets a day out of the infield and serves as the Guardians' designated hitter, Schneemann's time as a regular in the Cleveland lineup looks to be over. The left-handed-hitting Schneemann had started in just two of the Guardians' previous six games, with Cleveland facing only one lefty starter during that stretch.

  • Guardians' Daniel Schneemann: On bench again Monday

Schneemann is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Royals. The lefty-hitting Schneemann will take a seat against a right-handed starter (Michael Wacha) for the second day in a row. Manager Stephen Vogt looks to be rewarding Lane Thomas will another turn in center field after Thomas went 3-for-4 with an RBI in Sunday's 6-1 win over the Pirates. Despite his success Sunday, Thomas is still slashing just .212/.289/.330 against right-handed pitching this season, so he might have more work to do before firmly displacing Schneemann as the preferred option in center field.

  • Guardians' Daniel Schneemann: Sitting in series finale

Schneemann is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates. After starting in each of the Guardians' previous six matchups with right-handed pitchers, the lefty-hitting Schneemann will retreat to the bench Sunday while righty Mitch Keller takes the hill for Pittsburgh. Lane Thomas will start in center field as a replacement in the lineup for Schneemann, who closed August with a .294/.373/.373 slash line to go with one home run and two stolen bases.

  • Guardians' Daniel Schneemann: Playing time on downturn

Schneemann is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs. The lefty-hitting Schneemann is on the bench for the third straight game, including the second in a row against a right-handed pitcher (Jameson Taillon). The rookie had mostly held down a strong-side platoon role since getting his first big-league call-up June 2, but after producing a modest .660 OPS thus far in August, he looks to have ceded the primary role at shortstop to Brayan Rocchio.

Schneemann is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Orioles. Even with Baltimore sending right-hander Dean Kremer to the mound, the lefty-hitting Schneemann will begin Friday's contest on the bench. Since the beginning of July, Schneemann has slashed .161/.217/.357 with two home runs, six RBI and a 33.3 percent strikeout rate across 60 plate appearances. Brayan Rocchio will start at shortstop and bat eighth.

  • Guardians' Daniel Schneemann: Clubs fourth homer

Schneemann went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 5-4 loss to the Tigers. Schneemann got the Guardians within a run with his fourth-inning blast, but they couldn't pull even. The utility player has gone 4-for-20 (.200) across seven games in July, though all of those hits have gone for extra bases (two homers, two doubles). He's at a .247/.348/.506 slash line with four homers, 14 RBI, 10 runs scored, four doubles, two triples and one stolen base through 92 plate appearances. Schneemann continues to be an option at multiple positions, putting pressure on Jhonkensy Noel, Tyler Freeman and Brayan Rocchio as the Guardians have a number of different looks to fill out the bottom half of the order.

  • Guardians' Daniel Schneemann: Collects first hit, RBI in debut

Schneemann went 1-for-3 with a two-run double in Sunday's 5-2 loss to the Nationals. Schneemann made his major-league debut Sunday, and it didn't take him long to add a couple other milestones. He produced a two-run double in his first at-bat, providing all of the Guardians' run production in the contest. The 27-year-old is likely to take on a utility role -- he started at second base Sunday but likely won't see much time there with Andres Gimenez in a starting role at the keystone. Schneemann's best paths to playing time will likely be right field or shortstop, as Will Brennan and Brayan Rocchio haven't hit particularly well despite seeing large roles this season.

The Guardians recalled Schneemann from Triple-A Columbus on Sunday. He'll start at second base and bat eighth Sunday in his MLB debut against the Nationals. Though the 27-year-old Schneemann will take on a starting role in his first game with the Guardians, he's projected to fill a utility role for Cleveland after he saw action at second base, third base, shortstop, left field, center field, right field and designated hitter during his time at Columbus this season while slashing .294/.428/.556 with 10 home runs and four stolen bases across 223 plate appearances. The Guardians optioned outfielder Johnathan Rodriguez to Triple-A in a corresponding move.
