Athletics' Brent Rooker: Homers in loss
Rooker went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run in Saturday's 6-4 loss to the Giants.
Rooker made things interesting with an eighth-inning blast off Caleb Kilian, but the Giants were able to prevent further damage. This was Rooker's third homer in his last nine games, a span in which he's batting .303 (10-for-33) with nine RBI. He's hitting .204 with a .679 OPS, six long balls, 21 RBI, 10 runs scored, two stolen bases and two doubles over 29 contests this season. The 31-year-old is locked in as the Athletics' preferred designated hitter, though he'll also get some time in left field.

Athletics' Luis Severino: Handed third straight loss
Severino (2-5) allowed five runs on 10 hits and two walks while striking out seven over six innings to take the loss Saturday versus the Giants.
Casey Schmitt delivered two home runs and three RBI in this contest, accounting for the majority of the damage on Severino's line. This was a third straight loss for Severino, though it's the first one he's truly deserved in that span -- he had allowed just five runs in total over 24 innings across his previous four starts. The veteran right-hander is now at a 4.45 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 54:31 K:BB through 54.2 innings over 10 starts. He's projected for a road outing against the Angels in his next start, which is a favorable matchup.

Athletics' Denzel Clarke: Beginning rehab stint
Clarke (foot) is slated to begin a minor-league rehab assignment with Single-A Stockton on Saturday, Jason Burke of SI.com reports.
Clarke has been on the IL since April 22 due to a deep bone bruise in his right foot. He's progressed enough in his recovery to begin playing in games again, and Stockton announced that he's expected to play with the team both Saturday and Sunday. Clarke had been struggling for the A's before getting hurt, posting a meager .417 OPS with no homers, six RBI, two stolen bases and a 40 percent strikeout rate through 22 games.

Athletics' Jackson Nove: Dealt to Athletics
The White Sox traded Nove to the Athletics on Thursday in exchange for outfielder Junior Perez.
Nove is a 6-foot-5 lefty pitcher who joined Chicago as an undrafted free agent last July. He's had a strong start to the season with Single-A Kannapolis, posting a 1.96 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 41:10 K:BB over 23 innings spanning 12 appearances (one start). Nove will look to further develop within the A's organization and is likely years away from a potential debut in the majors.

Athletics' Michael Stefanic: Dropped from 40-man
The Athletics designated Stefanic for assignment Saturday.
Stefanic will be pushed off the Athletics' 26- and 40-man rosters following the team's acquisition of Alika Williams from Pittsburgh on Saturday. Stefanic went 2-for-5 with a run scored during his four-day stint in the majors and owns a .706 OPS through 149 plate appearances at Triple-A Las Vegas. He'll likely spend the rest of the season as organizational depth if he clears waivers.

Athletics' Alika Williams: Traded to Athletics
The Pirates traded Williams to the Athletics on Saturday in exchange for Kyle Robinson.
The 27-year-old infielder will join the Athletics' active roster immediately upon coming over from Pittsburgh, replacing Michael Stefanic. Williams hasn't appeared in an MLB game since 2024, but he's earned an opportunity by slashing .317/.385/.467 with two homers, 18 RBI and 19 runs scored through 135 plate appearances at Triple-A Indianapolis. He'll provide an extra option on the left side of the infield while the A's deal with injuries to Jacob Wilson (shoulder) and Max Muncy (hand).

Athletics' Nick Kurtz: Homers in third straight game
Kurtz went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run and a hit-by-pitch in Friday's 5-2 win over the Giants.
Kurtz went deep in the fifth inning to give the Athletics the lead for good. The first baseman's power has turned back on -- this was his third straight game with a homer after going 15 contests without one. He's up to eight long balls, 29 RBI, 28 runs scored, five stolen bases, eight doubles and a triple while batting .276 with a .923 OPS over 43 games this season. He'll continue to be a swing-and-miss risk with a 29.8 percent strikeout rate, but the power potential makes up for it.

Athletics' Hogan Harris: Picks up third save
Harris allowed a hit and struck out one without walking a batter in a scoreless inning to earn the save in Friday's 5-2 win over the Giants.
Harris picked up his second save in May and his third of the year. He's allowed just one run on eight hits and two walks while striking out seven over five innings this month. The Athletics' bullpen roles have been fluid for much of the season -- Harris is now one of four relievers with at least three saves, and he's added seven holds. Jack Perkins and Mark Leiter have struggled at times this month, while Joel Kuhnel has seen less high-leverage usage recently. Harris is at a 2.45 ERA on the year, though his 1.64 WHIP and 24:17 K:BB over 22 innings would suggest there will be volatility for him at some point. He walked 33 batters in both of the previous two seasons as well. The southpaw figures to be a matchups-based option for saves as the Athletics' top left-handed reliever.

Athletics' Aaron Civale: Wins third straight start
Civale (5-1) allowed two runs on six hits and a walk while striking out two over five innings to earn the win Friday over the Giants.
Both runs allowed came on solo home runs, making this the first time in nine starts Civale has allowed multiple homers. On the positive side, he's now allowed two runs or fewer in seven outings, and he's walked one batter or zero in six starts. He might have had more in the tank Friday, as he exited at 76 pitches (52 strikes). Civale is sporting a 2.70 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 35:14 K:BB through 46.2 innings this season. Allowing a high volume of hits (51) could come back to bite him down the line, but he's been effective at limiting damage so far. The right-hander's next start is projected to be on the road versus the Angels.

Athletics' Mason Barnett: Back in Vegas
The Athletics optioned Barnett to Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday.
After coming up from the minors Wednesday, Barnett will return to Triple-A without making an appearance for the A's in order to make room for the newly acquired Jose Suarez. The 25-year-old Barnett owns a 3.07 ERA and 1.27 WHIP over 29.1 innings at Triple-A this season and remains an option to come up later in the year for a spot start or to give the Athletics length out of the bullpen.

Athletics' Mark Leiter: Tosses scoreless frame
Leiter threw a perfect inning while striking out two Thursday against the Cardinals.
Leiter was called upon to pitch the seventh inning and did so without issue, retiring the side in order. It marked the third consecutive scoreless outing for the right-hander, who has struggled mightily at times during his first season with the Athletics. Leiter has allowed multiple runs in four of his 20 appearances this year, contributing to a 7.64 ERA and 1.70 WHIP across 17.2 innings.

Athletics' Zack Gelof: Goes deep in defeat
Gelof went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's 5-4 loss to St. Louis.
Gelof got a center-cut fastball from Ryne Stanek in the seventh inning and sent it over the left-center field wall for his second long ball in as many games. It has been a scorching start to May for Gelof, who is slashing .308/.372/.692 with four homers, nine RBI and eight runs across 11 games this month. The 26-year-old is valued for his ability to play multiple positions around the diamond, but with Max Muncy (hand) sidelined, Gelof has seized regular playing time at third base.

Athletics' Jack Perkins: Struggles in second blown save
Perkins (2-2) blew the save and took the loss Thursday as the A's fell 5-4 to the Cardinals. He allowed two runs on three hits, no walks and a hit-by-pitch with no strikeouts over two-thirds of an inning.
The right-hander entered with a one-run cushion in the ninth inning but plunked JJ Wetherholt with two outs, opening the door for an Ivan Herrera game-tying single and a go-ahead double from Jordan Walker. Perkins had emerged as a trusted high-leverage arm for manager Mark Kotsay after a strong start to the season, but he has faltered of late. The 26-year-old has surrendered five earned runs across his past four outings, including a pair of blown saves. Overall, Perkins owns a 4.76 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 22:5 K:BB with three saves in five chances across 17 innings in 2026.

Athletics' Nick Kurtz: Mashes seventh homer Thursday
Kurtz went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk and a hit-by-pitch in Thursday's 5-4 loss to the Cardinals.
After going 15 games without leaving the yard, Kurtz lifted his second homer in as many days by leading off the bottom of the first inning with a 442-foot solo shot off Michael McGreevy. The young first baseman continues to flash the same elite bat he showed during his 2025 stint, as over his last 25 games Kurtz is batting 31-for-94 (.330) with a 1.025 OPS. On the year he's now slashing .275/.428/.477 with seven homers, eight doubles, 26 RBI, 27 runs scored and five stolen bases across 194 plate appearances.

Athletics' Jacob Lopez: Fades late in no-decision
Lopez did not factor into the decision Thursday against the Cardinals, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits and three walks while striking out two over five innings.
Lopez was effective through the first four innings, allowing just one hit before trouble arrived. Victor Scott tied the game with a solo homer in the fifth, and Jordan Walker added another solo shot an inning later before a throwing error helped bring home an additional run that ended Lopez's outing. The left-hander threw 56 of his 86 pitches for strikes but continued to struggle with keeping the ball in the yard, as he's now allowed multiple homers in three straight appearances. Lopez also has yet to complete six frames in a start this season. He owns a 5.80 ERA, 1.71 WHIP and 30:27 K:BB across 40.1 innings and is slated to face the Angels in his next turn through the rotation.
