The Raptors traded forward DeMarre Carroll to the Brooklyn Nets on Saturday night, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowksi. Carroll heads to Brooklyn along with a first- and second-round draft picks in 2018, and Toronto will receive forward Justin Hamilton. With the move, the Raptors free themselves of the $30 million they owe Carroll the next two seasons.

Unloading Carroll's contract gives the Raptors flexibility after re-signing Kyle Lowry and Serge Ibaka. The Nets pick up two draft picks by taking on the salary, and reunite Carroll with Brooklyn coach Kenny Atkinson, who coached Carroll as an assistant in Atlanta. Carroll hasn't lived up to the lofty contract Toronto gave him in 2015, and averaged 8.9 points and 3.8 rebounds in 26 minutes per game last season.
Hamilton is a 7-footer capable of stretching out to the 3-point line, which could help Toronto space the floor -- the Raptors were toward the bottom of the league in 3-pointers made and attempted last season. After playing with Charlotte, Miami and Minnesota earlier in his career, Hamilton averaged 6.9 points and 4.1 rebounds in 18.4 minutes per game for Brooklyn last season.
