  • Malcolm Delaney: Parts ways with Chinese club

Delaney announced Monday via his personal Twitter account that he and the Guangdong Southern Tigers officially parted ways.

During his first foray into the CBA ranks, Delaney had turned in big averages of 19.4 points, 6.1 assists and 5.6 rebounds in 32.0 minutes per game, but those numbers aren't as impressive after factoring in the level of competition and inflated nature of statistics in China. Prior to inking a one-year, $2 million contract with Guangdong this summer, Delaney had spent the previous two seasons in the NBA with the Hawks, averaging 5.7 points, 2.8 assists and 1.8 boards in 17.8 minutes over 127 appearances. The 29-year-old is expected to pursue a return to the NBA, though it's unclear if any teams will be willing to extend him a 10-day contract.

  • Malcolm Delaney: Continuing career in China

Delaney (ankle) signed a one-year, $2 million contract Saturday with the Guangdong Southeastern Tigers of the Chinese Basketball Association, Nikos Varlas of EuroHoops.net reports.

Delaney's pact will also include a bonus if Guangdong reaches the CBA title game. The financial commitment is likely well beyond the amount of guaranteed money Delaney could have secured from an NBA team this offseason, so he'll head overseas for the big payday before potentially resurfacing in North America next spring once Guangdong's season concludes. Delaney, 28, averaged 6.3 points, 3.0 assists, 1.9 rebounds and 0.9 three-pointers in 18.8 minutes per game while suiting in 54 contests with the Hawks in 2017-18. He required ankle surgery in April, but proved he was back to full strength after participating in the Miami Pro League in late July.

  • Malcolm Delaney: Becomes unrestricted free agent

Delaney has become an unrestricted free agent as a result of the Hawks not tendering him a qualifying offer, Michael Scotto of The Athletic New York reports.

Delaney, undrafted in 2011 out of Virginia Tech, has appeared in 127 games with Atlanta over the past two seasons. Last year, the 29-year-old averaged 6.3 points and 3.0 assists across 18.8 minutes while shooting under 40 percent from the field. It's possible he garners an offer from another team, though his age and recent performance likely wouldn't make him more than a third-string point guard option wherever he was to land.

  • Hawks' Malcolm Delaney: Undergoes ankle surgery, out 6-to-8 weeks

Delaney (ankle) underwent surgery on his left ankle Monday and is expected to need six-to-eight weeks of recovery time, Michael Cunningham of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Delaney missed the final 18 games of the season due to the injury and it appears he's now elected to have surgery to correct the issue permanently. The second-year guard is likely headed for free agency this offseason, though the injury shouldn't have a drastic impact on his options considering he should be healthy by the start of June. Delaney finished the 2017-18 campaign playing in 54 games, while averaging career bests of 6.3 points, 3.0 assists and 1.9 rebounds across 18.8 minutes.
