  • Knicks' Mitchell Robinson: Targeting return before March

Robinson (ankle) is reportedly targeting to return to the floor before that start of next month for the Knicks, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.

The Knicks may be on the verge of getting Robinson back on the floor to help bolster their frontcourt. The 25-year-old is still recovering from left ankle surgery and hasn't played a game for New York all season. During the 2023-24 campaign, he averaged 5.6 points, 8.5 rebounds, 1.2 steals and 1.1 blocks per game while shooting 40.9 percent from the field.

  • Knicks' Mitchell Robinson: Cleared for contact

Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau said Monday that Robinson (ankle) has been cleared to resume taking contact, James L. Edwards III of The Athletic reports.

Robinson has yet to make his season debut while recovering from the surgery he underwent on his left ankle last May. While Robinson's advancement to taking contact on the court is the next step forward in his recovery program, the Knicks aren't yet putting a timeline on the center's return to game action. Once healthy, the 26-year-old should serve as the primary backup to starting center Karl-Anthony Towns, a role that likely will result in Robinson playing fewer than 20 minutes per game.

  • Knicks' Mitchell Robinson: May be eyeing pre-break return

The Knicks are optimistic that Robinson (ankle) will be ready to make his season debut by early-to-mid-February, Ian Begley of SNY.tv reports.

New York has yet to issue a formal update on Robinson as he works his way back from May 13 surgery on his left ankle, but Begley spotted the 26-year-old center in the Knicks' locker room during Monday's win over the Hawks and relays that Robinson looked noticeably slimmer than his listed weight of 278 pounds from the 2023-24 season. Begley's observation could indicate that the big man has been staying on top of his conditioning, but as of last week, Robinson hadn't yet resumed sprinting on his surgically repaired ankle. Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau has previously intimated that Robinson will start practicing by the end of the month, and if that comes to fruition, a return shortly before the All-Star break could be in the cards. Once healthy, Robinson will likely supplant Precious Achiuwa as the primary backup to starting center Karl-Anthony Towns.

  • Knicks' Mitchell Robinson: Not yet practicing

Robinson (ankle) has yet to begin running at full speed but is expected to be cleared for full practice at some point in January, Ian Begley of SportsNet New York reports.

Robinson is recovering from offseason ankle surgery but appears to still be multiple weeks from suiting up for games. The 26-year-old big man hasn't appeared in a game this season, allowing for Precious Achiuwa to operate as the Knicks' backup center. Robinson shouldn't be expected back until at least late January.

  • Knicks' Mitchell Robinson: Likely out through late January

Robinson (foot) is unlikely to be cleared for game action until "at least late January," Shams Charania reported Wednesday on ESPN's "NBA Today" program.

Robinson has been sidelined all season after requiring a pair of procedures on his left ankle, with the most recent surgery coming back in mid-May. The 26-year-old has yet to be cleared for practice, and the Knicks apparently aren't planning on the big man being ready to contribute for at least another month or two. Karl-Anthony Towns has started at center all season after mostly playing power forward with Minnesota in 2023-24, and the Knicks are likely envisioning Robinson filling a backup role once he's back up to full speed. In the meantime, Precious Achiuwa will likely serve as Towns' primary backup, while also occasionally sharing the court with him.

  • Knicks' Mitchell Robinson: Not yet cleared for practice

Robinson (ankle) has not been cleared to begin basketball activities, with coach Tom Thibodeau noting that the big man is only shooting thus far, Steve Popper of Newsday reports.

Robinson' troublesome left ankle, which was most recently surgically repaired in May, continues to yield a slow return to action, although no setbacks have been reported. Robinson's game is solely dependent on his athleticism and movement skills defensively, so a comprehensive increase in on-court reps will be needed prior to estimating his return.
