The Bills made a major splash in free agency to address their shortcomings on defense, and two weeks into training camp it looks like the moves will pay off handsomely. After finishing near the bottom of the league in sacks in 2011, the Bills appear to be in much better shape with Mario Williams and Mark Anderson at defensive end. Both players have been standouts thus far at training camp.

It appears to be too early to tell if QB Vince Young -- the team’s only high-profile addition on offense -- will be an upgrade as the team’s likely No. 2 QB. Young has gotten off to a slow start, but it’s hard to think that he wouldn’t be an upgrade over Tyler Thigpen if ultimately pressed into game action.

DE Mario Williams: Williams has lived up to the hype and then some at his first training camp, which really says something considering he signed the largest contract for a defensive player in NFL history in the spring. The massive defensive end is a physical specimen at left defensive end and has given Buffalo’s offensive tackles fits. The Bills finally appear to have the top pass rusher they’ve so desperately needed.

DE Mark Anderson: Williams may get the spotlight, but don’t forget about Anderson. One of the other top defensive ends in all of free agency, Anderson has impressed with his quickness and improvisational approach to pass rushing. He’s been nearly as impressive as Williams at times and is the favorite to land the open right defensive end job.

QB Vince Young: Young has had a slow start. He's struggling with his accuracy in particular. He’s still the favorite to land the No. 2 QB job, but right now that’s mostly because fellow QB Tyler Thigpen has struggled just as much as Young (if not more). Young needs to become more comfortable in Chan Gailey’s system and continue to work on his mechanics.
