Top Lance Kendricks News

  • Chargers' Lance Kendricks: Lowest reception total of career

Kendricks recorded just three receptions for 50 yards in 12 games with the Chargers this season.

The entirety of that meager production came during Weeks 3 and 4, in which Hunter Henry (knee), Virgil Green (groin) and Sean Culkin (knee) were all out. Kendricks would play just 26 offensive snaps from Week 6 onward and is likely on the tail end of a career that has spanned nine professional seasons.

  • Chargers' Lance Kendricks: Lone healthy TE standing

Kendricks caught two of his three targets for 37 yards in the 30-10 win Sunday over the Dolphins.

It's a bit improbable, but Kendricks might have some bona fide fantasy value, at least in deep formats, after Sunday's contest which saw nominal starter Sean Culkin tear his Achilles in the second half. The Chargers surely will bring in a healthy body at some point, but with Virgil Green (groin) still on the mend and Hunter Henry (knee) expected to be out for another couple of weeks, Kendricks technically is the only healthy tight end on the roster at the moment and, at least throughout Sunday's contest, saw a substantial jump in playing time (38 of 67 snaps on offense).

  • Chargers' Lance Kendricks: Only TE to catch pass

Kendricks corralled one of his two targets for 13 yards in the 27-20 loss Sunday to the Texans.

The good news: Kendricks was the only tight end to catch a pass Sunday. The bad news: both Sean Culkin (44) and Virgil Green (27) significantly out-snapped Kendricks (11) throughout the contest. Considering the veteran tight end joined the team last week, the less-than-ideal snap count should be expected, but it's at least worth monitoring as the Chargers try to get by without Hunter Henry (knee) for an extended period. Still, the extreme target share going to the likes of Keenan Allen, Mike Williams and Austin Ekeler each week likely handicaps any sort of fantasy output for Kendricks.

  • Chargers' Lance Kendricks: Signs with Chargers

Kendricks signed with the Chargers on Tuesday.

Kendricks joins Los Angeles with regular starter Hunter Henry (knee) out for 3-to-5 weeks with a tibia plateau fracture. The veteran is eligible to play in Week 3 after serving a suspension during the season opener as a member of the Patriots, but it remains to be seen what his role will be with his new team. Virgil Green and Sean Culkin are the only other active tight ends on the roster for the time being.

  • Patriots' Lance Kendricks: Let go by Pats

Kendricks (suspension) was released by the Patriots on Monday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.

Kendricks was suspended for Sunday's season opener for violating the NFL's policy and program on substances of abuse, and he'll return to free agency without taking a regular-season snap with the Patriots. The 31-year-old should be eligible to play Week 2 if he signs elsewhere, though he was also dealing with an undisclosed injury at the end of the preseason.

  • Patriots' Lance Kendricks: Suspended one game

Kendricks (undisclosed) will be suspended one game for violating the NFL's policy and program on substances of abuse, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

This suspension comes on top of an injury Kendricks picked up during the team's preseason contest Thursday.Mike Reiss of ESPN.com suggested the veteran tight end was already on the roster bubble prior to Saturday's announcement, with Ben Watson, Matt LaCosse and Stephen Anderson all noticeably performing better than Kendricks at different points throughout training camp. He'll be eligible to play Week 2 against the Dolphins should he make the Patriots' 53-man roster.

Kendricks went to the locker room during Thursday's preseason game against the Panthers due to an unspecified injury, Kevin Duffy of the Boston Herald reports.

Kendricks took a big hit during the exhibition, and he went to the locker room for further evaluation shortly after. The details surrounding his injury have yet to emerge.

  • Patriots' Lance Kendricks: Long gainer sets up TD

Kendricks had a catch-and-run of 28 yards during Saturday's 22-17 win against the Titans.

It's been a revolving door at tight end for the Patriots this offseason, with Austin Seferian-Jenkins, Ben Watson and Matt LaCosse (ankle) all considered for prominent roles at varying points, only to be cut from the team, suspended or moved down the depth chart due to injury. Kendricks was signed on July 24 and may end up being one of the last men standing when it's all said and done. He brings with him valuable experience and 2,500 career receiving yards, but he was relatively quiet during his two seasons with Green Bay, compiling just 37 catches for 373 yards, despite logging 12 starts and playing 23 total games alongside Aaron Rodgers.

  • Patriots' Lance Kendricks: Spotted in non-contact jersey

Kendricks (undisclosed) took the field Monday, sporting a red (non contact) jersey, Mark Daniels of the Providence Journal reports.

With Kendricks still not ready to practice fully and Matt LaCosse dealing with a lower-leg injury, the Patriots added some depth at tight end by acquiring Eric Saubert from the Falcons on Monday. LaCosse is the team's projected Week 1 starter at tight end, with Ben Watson set to serve a four-game suspension, but if LaCosse's injury persists, Kendricks could factor in early on, assuming his own health isn't an issue.

  • Patriots' Lance Kendricks: No action Thursday

Kendricks (undisclosed) did not play during Thursday's preseason game against the Lions, Zack Cox of NESN.com reports.

Kendricks has yet to participate in practice since signing with the Patriots last week. The veteran tight end is competing for a role in New England. Matt LaCosse left Thursday's contest due to an undisclosed injury and did not return, so Kendricks could see plenty of reps if he's able to get healthy and return to practice soon.
