  • Falcons' Jessie Bates: Excellent again in 2024

Bates recorded 102 tackles, including 1.0 sacks, along with 10 pass defenses (including four interceptions, one of which was a pick-six), four forced fumbles and a fumble recovery over 17 regular-season games. Bates wasn't able to approach the career-high 132 stops he made in 2023, but he was still prolific as a tackler, notching his fifth career season with triple-digit stops. He also had two fewer interceptions than in the previous campaign, though he had twice as many pickoffs than anyone else on the Falcons and tied for 10th in the NFL in that category. For good measure, Bates recorded his second career pick-sick in Week 16 against the Giants and tied for fifth in the NFL with a career-best four forced fumbles. He's slated to be the centerpiece of Atlanta's secondary -- and an elite IDP option -- again in 2025, when he'll be in the third year of the four-year contract he inked in March of 2023.

  • Falcons' Kaden Elliss: Posts career-high 151 stops in 2024

Elliss ended the regular season with 151 tackles, including 5.0 sacks, along with three pass defenses (including an interception), one forced fumble and one recovered fumble over 17 games. Elliss was both prolific and consistent during the campaign, recording double-digit tackles in 10 of his 17 contests. His 151 tackles tied for sixth-most in the NFL and surpassed his previous career-high mark, which he had established in 2023, by 29 stops. Elliss has emerged as one of the league's top run-stoppers in his two seasons with Atlanta, and he's expected to fill the same role with the team next year in what will be the final year of the three-year deal he signed in March of 2023.

  • Falcons' James Smith-Williams: Season cut short by injury

In 10 games in 2024, Smith-Williams (lower leg) recorded 24 tackles (12 solo) including 1.0 sacks. Despite playing fewer games and fewer defensive snaps than in either season, Smith-Williams collected more tackles than he did in each of his last two campaigns. That he was more productive must have made it extra frustrating when he was knocked out of the last seven games of the year due to injuries. He's set to become an unrestricted free agent during the offseason.

  • Falcons' Zach Harrison: Role cut down in 2024

In 17 games in 2024, Harrison recorded 26 tackles (six solo), including 1.0 sacks, along with two passes defensed. Despite playing one more game, Harrison actually played fewer total defensive snaps in 2024 (263) than he did in his rookie season in 2023 (323). At least part of that difference could be explained by Atlanta's shift from a 4-3 to a 3-4 defensive scheme under new defensive coordinator Jimmy Lake. If Lake retains the position, Harrison could be in line for a similar snap share in 2025.

  • Falcons' Lorenzo Carter: No sacks in shortened season

In 13 games in 2024, Carter recorded 32 tackles (23 solo) and a forced fumble. Carter was forced to miss four straight games in the middle of the season after suffering a concussion, a big part of why he posted fewer defensive snaps, fewer tackles and fewer sacks than he did in each of his three seasons prior. However, even when he was available, he was stuck behind Matthew Judon and Arnold Ebiketie on the depth chart. Carter is set to become an unrestricted free agent during the offseason.

  • Falcons' Clark Phillips: Takes step up in 2024

Phillips finished the 2024 season with 35 total tackles (27 solo), five passes defensed, including an interception, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery over 16 games. Phillips operated as a depth option behind A.J. Terrell and Mike Hughes in 2024, increasing his tackles total in his second season in the NFL, while also snatching his first career interception. With Hughes heading into free agency this offseason, it's possible that Phillips could be thrust into a starting role in Atlanta's secondary in 2025.

  • Falcons' Arnold Ebiketie: Career highs in 2024

Ebiketie finished the 2024 season with 38 total tackles (26 solo), including 6.0 sacks, while also adding two passes defensed and a fumble recovery across 17 games. Ebiketie was able to play in all 17 regular-season games with the Falcons again in 2024, setting a new career high with 38 takedowns during the year. The linebacker also secured the first fumble recovery of his three-year NFL career. Ebiketie was selected in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, and he'll be entering his final season under contract with Atlanta in 2025.

  • Falcons' Matthew Judon: Disappointing 2024 campaign

Judon finished the 2024 season with 41 total tackles (25 solo), including 5.5 sacks, while also adding five passes defensed, including an interception, over 17 games. Judon was traded to the Falcons in August after three seasons with the Patriots, ultimately appearing in all 17 contests with Atlanta. The linebacker was unable to replicate his production from his time in New England though, securing just 5.5 sacks with the Falcons after compiling 32.0 sacks over 38 games with the Patriots. However, Judon did snatch his first career interception in Week 16 versus the Giants, returning it for a touchdown. The 32-year-old will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason, and he'll likely have many suitors interested in signing him.

  • Falcons' David Onyemata: Productive second season in Atlanta

Onyemata finished the 2024 season with 45 total tackles (23 solo), including 3.0 sacks, while also adding a pass defensed over 17 games. Onyemata was able to appear in all 17 of Atlanta's games this season, reaching 45 takedowns, which is his second-highest total in nine NFL campaigns. The nose tackle remains under contract with the Falcons for one more year and will likely return to his starting role with the team in 2025.

  • Falcons' Troy Andersen: Contributes when healthy

Andersen (knee) recorded 47 tackles (28 solo) and a pick-six in seven games this season. The inside linebacker's knee injury forced him to end the campaign on injured reserve. In the three games in which he played on at least 76 percent of the defensive snaps, Andersen finished with nine, 12 and 17 tackles, respectively. Unfortunately, Andersen also ended 2023 on injured reserve, due to a shoulder/pectoral injury.

  • Falcons' Grady Jarrett: Records 53 stops in 2024

Jarrett finished the 2024 season with 53 total tackles (30 solo), including 2.5 sacks, over 17 games. Jarrett was able to appear in all 17 of Atlanta's contests this season, reaching at least 50 takedowns for the seventh time in his 10-year NFL career. The defensive lineman is still under contract for another season with the Falcons and will likely operate in a starting role with the team again in 2025.

Simmons recorded 62 total tackles (36 solo) and seven passes defensed, including two interceptions, over 16 games in 2024. Simmons joined the Falcons in mid-August after spending the first eight seasons of his career with the Broncos, playing in at least 16 contests for the first time since 2021. The safety has now registered multiple interceptions in each of his nine NFL campaigns and he'll be an unrestricted free agent heading into the offseason.

  • Falcons' Dee Alford: Sets new career highs

Alford finished with 83 tackles (61 solo), including 1.0 sacks, 11 pass breakups and a forced fumble, all career-best marks, across 16 games in 2024. The slot cornerback also played on a majority of the defensive snaps in 12 of his 16 games. In 2022, Alford signed a three-year, $2.57 million contract with the Falcons. Now, he'll become a restricted free agent, meaning Atlanta can match any offer from another team.

  • Falcons' Nate Landman: Productive campaign in 2024

Landman finished the 2024 season with 81 total tackles (39 solo), three forced fumbles and one pass defensed over 13 games. Landman was thrust into a more significant role in the middle of the season when starter Troy Andersen suffered a knee injury, recording 46 total tackles (26 solo) and all three forced fumbles over six games between Week 6 and Week 11. Landman will enter the offseason as a restricted free agent, and he seems likely to return to Atlanta in 2025.

  • Falcons' Demone Harris: Questionable to return Sunday

Harris is getting examined for a possible head injury during Sunday's game against the Panthers, Josh Kendall of The Athletic reports. The linebacker made one solo tackle before exiting. Harris has only played on a majority of the defensive snaps in one of the eight games he's played in this season.

  • Falcons' Mike Hughes: Won't return Sunday

Hughes (shoulder) has been ruled out for the rest of Sunday's game against the Panthers, Sheena Quick of Fox Sports Radio 1340 reports. Hughes injured his shoulder in the first half of Sunday's game, and it appears serious enough for him to be ruled out for the rest of the contest. Clark Phillips will serve as the second outside corner opposite A.J. Terrell for the rest of the contest.

  • Falcons' Mike Hughes: Dealing with shoulder injury

Hughes (shoulder) is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Panthers, Tori McElhaney of the Falcons' official site reports. Hughes was cleared to return to Sunday's game after suffering a head injury, but he has exited for a second time due to a shoulder issue. Clark Phillips will likely fill in at outside corner opposite A.J. Terrell for as long as Hughes is sidelined.

  • Falcons' JD Bertrand: Won't play in regular-season finale

Bertrand (eye) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Panthers, Tori McElhaney of the Falcons' official site reports. An eye injury limited Bertrand in practice all week, and the issue is severe enough for the rookie fifth-rounder to miss the final game of the regular season. He'll end his first NFL regular season with 23 tackles (16 solo), including 1.0 sacks, over 12 games. Josh Woods will be the primary backup at inside linebacker behind starters Kaden Elliss and Nate Landman due to Bertrand's injury.

  • Falcons' Brandon Dorlus: Won't play vs. Carolina

Dorlus (abdomen) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Panthers, Tori McElhaney of the Falcons' official site reports. Dorlus popped up on Friday's injury report as a DNP due to an abdominal injury, and he hasn't progressed enough in his recovery over the weekend to play in Sunday's regular-season finale. Kentavius Street and Ruke Orhorhoro will serve as Atlanta's rotational defensive ends behind starters Zach Harrison and Grady Jarrett due to Dorlus' injury.
