  • Darrynton Evans: Headed to Chicago

The Bears signed Evans to their practice squad Wednesday, Kevin Fishbain of The Athletic reports. Evans was dropped by the Bills on Oct. 29, but he's already found a new home in Chicago. The Appalachian State product's most recent in-game action came in 2023 with the Dolphins, when he appeared in two contests and recorded 16 rushing yards on two carries. He could be elevated to Chicago's active roster at some point this season, especially after Khalil Herbert was traded to the Bengals on Tuesday.

  • Darrynton Evans: Let go by Buffalo

The Bills released Evans (hamstring) from IR on Tuesday. Evans started the regular season on injured reserve after injuring his hamstring during the Bills' preseason finale against the Panthers in late August. His 21-day practice window to return from IR opened Oct. 9, but the Bills don't have room for Evans to join the active roster alongside fellow running backs James Cook, Ray Davis and Ty Johnson. Frank Gore is the lone running back on the Bills' practice squad, so while Evans could stick around in Buffalo, once he's healthy he'll have the option to explore his opportunities elsewhere and catch on with a team in need of depth at running back.

  • Bills' Darrynton Evans: Not in Week 8 mix

Evans (hamstring) wasn't activated from injured reserve ahead of Sunday's game against the Seahawks. Evans, whose 21-day practice window opened Oct. 9, will thus target a potential return to action in Week 9. In his continued absence, James Cook, Ray Davis and Ty Johnson are available to handle the Bills' running back duties versus Seattle.

  • Bills' Darrynton Evans: Doubtful for Week 8

Evans (hamstring) is listed as doubtful ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Seahawks. The Appalachian State product must still be activated to the Bills' active roster in order to suit up Sunday. Despite back-to-back weeks without practice limitations, Evans is expected to miss his eighth consecutive game due to a hamstring injury. However, if he is activated ahead of Sunday's contest, he'll likely serve as the team's fourth-string running back behind Ty Johnson, Ray Davis and James Cook.

  • Bills' Darrynton Evans: Remains on IR for Week 7

Evans (hamstring) was not activated from injured reserve ahead of Sunday's game against the Titans. Evans will miss his seventh consecutive game to open the season after he was injured in late August. The Bills will continue to roll with James Cook, Ray Davis (calf) and Ty Johnson in the backfield for another week. Evans is unlikely to have a substantial role once he's activated. His 21-day practice window was opened 10 days ago.

  • Bills' Darrynton Evans: Doubtful for Sunday

Evans (hamstring) is listed as doubtful ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Titans, Sal Capaccio of WGR Sports Radio 550 Buffalo reports. Evans has missed the Bills' first six games this season after sustaining a hamstring injury in late August. However, the Appalachian State product was designated to return from injured reserve on Oct. 9 and logged a week of full practice sessions, giving himself a small chance to play Sunday. Evans must still be activated to the Bills' active roster in order to suit up in Week 7, but if he's unable to play as expected, Buffalo's running back room will likely consist of James Cook, Ray Davis (calf) and Ty Johnson.

  • Bills' Darrynton Evans: Not activated for MNF

Evans (hamstring) will remain on injured reserve ahead of Monday's Week 6 game against the Jets. Evans was placed on IR just before the beginning of the regular season and was designated to return this past Wednesday. He logged a trio of full practices during the week, but the Bills aren't activating him for Monday Night Football despite the fact that lead running back James Cook won't play due to a toe injury. Evans' next opportunity to make his season debut will come Sunday, Oct. 20 versus Tennessee.

  • Bills' Darrynton Evans: Could return Monday

Evans (hamstring) practiced in full Saturday but doesn't have a designation for Monday's game against the Jets. Evans was designated to return from IR on Wednesday and has been a full participant in practice all week. However, he has yet to be added to the 53-man roster, leaving his status for MNF up in the air. His status for the matchup may ultimately hinge on James Cook's (toe) ability to play.

  • Bills' Darrynton Evans: Set to return to practice

Buffalo designated Evans (hamstring) for return to practice Wednesday, Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic reports. Evans spent the first five weeks of the season on injured reserve due to a hamstring injury he suffered during the Bills' last preseason game, but now that he's been cleared to practice again, he'll be eligible for activation ahead of Monday's game against the Jets. The Bills will have a 21-day window to evaluate Evans in practice, however, so the team could instead choose to bring him back in Week 7 or 8 if they're not confident that he'll be ready to go for Monday's contest.

  • Bills' Darrynton Evans: Won't return Saturday

Evans (hamstring) is out for the rest of Saturday's preseason game against the Panthers. The running back -- who is fighting for a roster spot -- carried the ball three times for 15 yards and caught two passes for 24 yards and a score before exiting. Evans signed with the Bills in January after spending 2023 with the Bears and Dolphins, carrying the ball 32 times for 121 yards and a score over seven regular-season games.

Evans reverted to the Dolphins' practice squad Saturday, per the NFL's transaction log. • Darrynton Evans: Cut by Chicago

Chicago waived Evans on Thursday. A little over a month after signing him to their 53-man roster, the Bears have now decided to part ways with Evans. Unless he's claimed by another team during the current waiver period, he's set to become a free agent again.

  • Bears' Darrynton Evans: Busy in season debut

Evans rushed nine times for 32 yards and added a two-yard reception in the Bears' 19-13 loss to the Vikings on Sunday. Until the fourth quarter, Evans had split the backfield touches almost evenly with D'Onta Foreman. By the end of the game, Foreman had more work and was the more effective back. It's unclear if Evans will retain a role in the offense when Roschon Johnson (concussion) returns to the lineup.

  • Bears' Darrynton Evans: Inks deal with Chicago

Evans agreed to a contract with the Bears on Sunday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. Evans became a free agent Saturday after terminating his practice squad contract with the Dolphins. With starting running back Khalil Herbert expected to miss multiple weeks with a high ankle sprain, and injuries to Roschon Johnson (concussion) and Travis Homer (hamstring), Evans could get backfield snaps right away in Week 6 against the Vikings on Oct. 15.

  • Darrynton Evans: Leaves Dolphins' practice squad

Evans terminated his practice squad contract with the Dolphins on Saturday, making him a free agent, according to the NFL's transaction log. Evans must not see an opportunity in Miami behind Raheem Mostert, De'Von Achane and Salvon Ahmed, especially with Jeff Wilson also due back from injured reserve. Evans appeared in six games for the Bears last season, rushing 14 times for 64 yards and catching one pass for 33 yards. He'll look for an opportunity elsewhere.

  • Darrynton Evans: Joins Miami's practice squad

Evans signed with the Dolphins' practice squad Thursday, Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reports. Evans spent training camp with the Bills competing for the No. 3 running back spot against Ty Johnson and Latavius Murray. The 2020 third-round pick out of Appalachian State will now spend the beginning of the 2023 season on the Dolphins' practice squad and await an opportunity to be called up to the main roster.

  • Darrynton Evans: Working out for Indianapolis

The Colts are hosting Evans for a tryout Friday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports. Evans, a 2020 third-round pick of the Titans, garnered 64 yards on 13 carries with the Bears last season, but became an unrestricted free agent back in March. Indianapolis already has Zack Moss and Deon Jackson present as depth behind Jonathan Taylor (ankle), but Evans' experience in the kick return game could help his chances of earning an opportunity.

  • Darrynton Evans: Will be an unrestricted free agent

Chicago didn't extend Evans a qualifying offer or tender as a restricted free agent Wednesday, so he's officially an unrestricted free agent, Kevin Fishbain of The Athletic reports. Evans appeared in six games for the Bears in 2022, totaling 14 rushing attempts for 64 yards and securing his lone target for 33 yards. The 2020 third-round pick has previous experience as a kick-return man during his time in Tennessee, which should increase his value as a free agent this summer.
