Chiefs' Carson Steele: Rushes twice in NFL debut
Steele logged two carries for three yards during Thursday's 27-20 win over the Ravens.
Steele also returned one kickoff for 28 yards. The undrafted rookie played just five offensive snaps Week 1 despite Clyde Edwards-Helaire (illness) not being available behind starter Isaiah Pacheco, but there's room for Steele's involvement to grow as he better acclimates to the Chiefs offense. Edwards-Helaire won't be eligible to come off the reserve/non-football injury list until at least Week 5, so Steele will get another opportunity to handle a key depth role Week 2 versus the Bengals.

Chiefs' Carson Steele: Could mix in more with CEH out
Steele could see significant playing time early in the season, starting with Thursday's game against the Ravens, as teammate Clyde Edwards-Helaire will miss at least four weeks after being placed on the non-football illness list Monday, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports.

Chiefs' Carson Steele: Earns spot on initial roster
Steele has a spot on Kansas City's initial 53-man roster, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
The 225-pound undrafted rookie was a preseason standout, taking 11 carries for 87 yards and two touchdowns. The team lists him at fullback on its depth chart, and coach Andy Reid mentioned the possibility of using him in that role, but Steele mostly lined up as a lone running back during the preseason. There's potential to earn snaps and touches early on, as Kansas City has a weak group of running backs beyond Isiah Pacheco and could do some shuffling in the coming days to fill the other backup spots.

Chiefs' Carson Steele: Leads Chiefs in rushing Thursday
Steele rushed four times for 50 yards and a touchdown in the Chiefs' 34-21 preseason loss to the Bears on Thursday night. He also returned one kickoff for 29 yards.
The undrafted UCLA product got a nice chunk of his team-high rushing yardage total on a 31-yard scamper, but he was impressively efficient overall with his few opportunities. Steele is listed as a fullback on the Chiefs' unofficial preseason depth chart, but he's looked good with the ball in his hands and has arguably made a case for a 53-man roster spot, especially with no other player listed at his position. Nevertheless, Kansas City's ground game will naturally be dominated by Isiah Pacheco come the regular season, with Clyde Edwards-Helaire (illness) and Deneric Prince likely also in the mix for complementary snaps.

Chiefs' Carson Steele: Increased reps at RB
Steele saw more action at running back with the first-team and second-team offensive units during Tuesday's practice than he had previously in camp, Jesse Newell of The Kansas City Star reports.
Steele turned four carries into 29 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 26-13 preseason loss to the Jaguars, earning himself more opportunities with the top offensive packages. The 21-year-old took advantage of another absence for Clyde Edwards-Helaire (illness) on Tuesday, seeing additional work over the likes of Deneric Prince and Keaontay Ingram according to Pete Sweeney of ArrowheadPride.com. Offensive coordinator Matt Nagy said Tuesday that Steele is "doing a lot of good things and being in the right spot at the right time, and that you can trust him." It's unclear what role he will have with the team in 2024, whether at running back or fullback, but Steele is doing a good job of endearing himself to the coaching staff.

Carson Steele: Slated to sign with Kansas City
Steele is slated to sign with Kansas City as an undrafted free agent, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Steele began his collegiate career by playing two seasons at Ball State, but he joined UCLA for the 2023 campaign. His production declined with the Bruins, but he still rushed 167 times for 847 yards and six touchdowns while tallying 17 receptions for 163 yards and two touchdowns during his year at UCLA. He'll now spend time with Kansas City during offseason activities.
