  • Chris Naggar: Cut by 'Boys

The Cowboys waived Naggar on Friday.

Naggar kicked off his career last May as an undrafted free agent with the Jets, only to be waived in the middle of the preseason. After latching on to the Browns' practice squad, the team elevated him for Week 16 action at Green Bay, where he made one of two field-goal attempts and one of two point-after tries. The Cowboys eventually signed Naggar to a reserve/future contract in early February, but upon his release the team only has UDFA Jonathan Garibay at place kicker on the 90-man roster.

  • Cowboys' Chris Naggar: Signs futures deal

Naggar signed a reserve/future contract with the Cowboys on Friday.

Naggar spent the majority of the 2021 season on Cleveland's practice squad, but he was elevated for Week 16 against the Packers. He went 1-for-2 on extra-point attempts and made his only field goal -- a 37-yarder in the third quarter. Greg Zuerlein is under contract through the 2023 campaign, so Naggar will likely just be training camp competition for the veteran.

  • Chris Naggar: Released from practice squad

Cleveland cut Naggar from its practice squad Thursday.

Naggar was elevated from the practice squad ahead of Saturday's loss to Green Bay and converted his lone field-goal attempt while making one of two extra-point tries. With top kicker Chase McLaughlin (illness) coming off the reserve/COVID-19 list Thursday and ready to handle kicking duties Week 17, Naggar was deemed expendable. Cleveland already has another kicker on the practice squad in Chris Blewitt, who was signed Wednesday.

  • Browns' Chris Naggar: Puts team in early hole

Naggar converted his lone field-goal attempt and made one of two extra-point kicks in the Browns' 24-22 loss to Green Bay on Saturday.

For the second straight week, a Cleveland kicker's miss put the team in a disadvantageous position. Naggar missed an extra-point kick following Cleveland's first touchdown, which put them in the position of chasing points when the Packers scored touchdowns on two straight possessions. Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski opted to go for a two-point conversion after the team's second touchdown, but it failed; that pair of missed opportunities ultimately proved to be the difference in the contest. Nagger was called up from the practice squad to take over for Chase McLaughlin, who was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list leading up to the game. McLaughlin has come under increased scrutiny following a six-week stretch during which he made just four of nine field-goal attempts, including a game-impacting miss in Week 15 against the Raiders.

  • Browns' Chris Naggar: Kicking for Cleveland in Week 16

The Browns elevated Naggar from their practice squad Friday, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.

The move was expected, as Cleveland's primary kicker Chase McLaughlin (illness) was moved to the reserve/COVID-19 list after testing positive for the virus. With Naggar now officially on the roster, he'll have the opportunity to make his NFL debut Saturday in Green Bay.

  • Chris Naggar: Promotion expected

Naggar is in line to be promoted from the Browns' practice squad ahead of Saturday's game against the Packers, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

Naggar's looming elevation is tied to the status of fellow kicker Chase McLaughlin, who's on track to be placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Friday. If McLaughlin isn't available for Saturday's contest, Naggar would be in line to make his NFL regular-season debut versus Green Bay.

  • Chris Naggar: Lands back on practice squad

Naggar reverted from the active roster to the practice squad Monday per the NFL transactions log.

Naggar was promoted to the active roster prior to the team's Week 1 contest against the Chiefs as Chase McLaughlin's status was uncertain due to a hamstring injury. However, after McLaughlin proved healthy, Naggar was inactive for the game, and he is now likely to remain on the practice squad for the foreseeable future.

  • Browns' Chris Naggar: Inactive Sunday

Naggar is inactive for Sunday's season opener against Kansas City.

Naggar was elevated from the team's practice squad Saturday, with Chase McLaughlin on the Browns' Week 1 injury report due to a hamstring injury. However, McLaughlin is active Sunday and thus able to handle the team's kicking duties versus the Chiefs.

  • Browns' Chris Naggar: Moves up Saturday

Naggar was elevated from the practice squad Saturday.

It's unclear if Naggar is expected to play Saturday or if the team is simply taking a cautious approach with its depth chart while nominal starter Chase McLaughlin continues to battle a hamstring injury. It sure seems like the move might indicate something regarding McLaughlin's status, but the team has until Sunday afternoon to officially make any sort of decision regarding the status of its kicker.

  • Chris Naggar: Inks practice deal with Cleveland

Naggar was signed to the Browns' practice squad Thursday.

Even though Chase McLaughlin survived roster cuts, the Browns haven't settled on their placekicker yet. They were always expected to bring in competition for McLaughlin, who outlasted Cody Parkey (quadriceps, waived) during the preseason. In comes Naggar, who ironically will be looking to take McLaughlin's job for the second time in four months. McLaughlin was with the Jets in May when New York released him in favor of Naggar, who was eventually waived in August.

  • Chris Naggar: Waived by Jets

The Jets waived Naggar on Monday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.

Naggar missed a field goal in the preseason opener and reportedly has been inconsistent at training camp. The Jets are left with Matt Ammendola as the lone kicker on their roster, but they'll likely add another soon enough.
