Stefan Matteau: Released from PTO
Matteau was released from his PTO by the Blue Jackets on Friday, Aaron Portzline of The Athletic reports.
The 29-year-old winger last played in the NHL for one game with Colorado to open the 2021-22 season, and he spent two seasons in the Columbus system before that, but Matteau's attempt to win a roster spot in camp fell short. He could still sign a minor-league deal and remain with the organization at AHL Cleveland.

Blue Jackets' Stefan Matteau: Gets chance with Columbus
Matteau signed a professional tryout with the Blue Jackets on Tuesday, per CapFriendly.
Matteau started 2022-23 in Sweden with Linkoping HC of the SHL, but he managed just one assist in 16 games. He then transferred to ERC Ingolstadt of Germany's DEL, where he had 20 points in 19 regular-season contests and eight points in 16 playoff appearances. The winger had four points in 27 games with the Blue Jackets over parts of two seasons in 2019-20 and 2020-21. While there's familiarity between the player and the organization, Columbus would likely benefit from putting younger players with more potential in the Opening Night lineup.

Avalanche's Stefan Matteau: Suffers apparent leg injury
Matteau was injured in the first period of Saturday's game versus the Blues, and he couldn't put much weight on his right leg, Peter Baugh of The Athletic reports.
With Gabriel Landeskog suspended and Nathan MacKinnon in COVID-19 protocols, the Avalanche were already shorthanded up front entering Saturday. Even with Matteau's return to practice, he will be hard-pressed to break into the Opening Night roster and make a significant impact at the NHL level. The winger's two-way deal will see him spend time with AHL Colorado for the first time since 2019-20.

Avalanche's Stefan Matteau: Pens one-year contract
Matteau snagged a one-year, two-way deal from Colorado on Thursday.
Matteau -- who played in 18 games for the Blue Jackets last year -- figures to remain a fringe roster play for Colorado. With just 11 points in 91 contests, fantasy players shouldn't be expecting Matteau to generate a lot of fantasy value even when he does crack the Avs' lineup.
