Flames' Connor Zary: Out indefinitely, no surgery needed
Zary's lower-body injury won't require surgery but he is considered out indefinitely, the Flames reported Friday.
Zary was injured in Tuesday's game against the Ducks, but it appears he has avoided a worst-case scenario. He will begin his rehab immediately, per the team, but there's no telling when he'll be able to make his return from injured reserve. Rory Kerins was called up when Zary went on IR and figures to take on a bottom-six role initially.

Flames' Connor Zary: Hurt in Tuesday's game
Zary (lower body) won't return to Tuesday's game versus the Ducks, Eric Francis of Sportsnet reports.
Zary got the worst of a knee-on-knee hit from Drew Helleson in the second period and was in substantial pain as he left the ice. The 23-year-old Zary could be looking at a significant absence given the nature of the collision -- it's doubtful he'll play Wednesday in Los Angeles at a minimum. Assuming he misses time, Yegor Sharangovich will probably slide over to center while Walker Duehr would likely enter the lineup.

Flames' Connor Zary: Stays warm with goal
Zary scored a goal on four shots in Thursday's 5-3 loss to Utah.
Zary has scored in back-to-back contests and has six points over his last seven games. The 23-year-old forward is up to 10 goals, 22 points, 80 shots on net and a minus-5 rating through 38 appearances this season. He's made modest gains in most areas this season, and while he remains listed on the third line, Zary has often seen more ice time that role would suggest. He's a decent option for fantasy managers in deeper redraft formats.

Flames' Connor Zary: Scores in 100th career game
Zary scored a goal on three shots in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Canucks.

The 23-year-old was good in December with four goals and five assists over 12 appearances, giving him nine goals, 21 points, 76 shots on net and a minus-6 rating over 37 outings this season. Zary's still listed on the third line, but he's been productive in that spot on a low-scoring team.

Flames' Connor Zary: Puts away goal in loss

Zary is up to seven goals, nine assists, 61 shots on net and a minus-8 rating over 30 contests, but he's trending in the right direction. His offense hasn't taken a step forward from last year (34 points in 63 games), though Zary has been learning to play center at the NHL level after spending much of 2023-24 on the wing.

Flames' Connor Zary: Bends twine in loss
Zary scored a goal on three shots in Sunday's 6-2 loss to the Stars.

The 23-year-old center is up to six goals, 14 points, 57 shots on net and a minus-8 rating through 28 appearances. Zary is still working on consistency at the NHL level, but he's producing enough offense to be worth a look in deeper redraft formats while retaining plenty of value in keeper and dynasty leagues.

Flames' Connor Zary: Helps out on power play
Zary notched a power-play assist and three shots on goal in Thursday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Blues.
Zary had been held off the scoresheet in the previous three games. He snapped the slump by setting up a Matthew Coronato tally in the second period to tie the game at 2-2. The 23-year-old Zary has dropped down the lineup over the last couple of games, centering the third line instead of the top line. He's at 13 points (six on the power play), 54 shots on net and a minus-8 rating through 27 outings. The Flames have rarely settled on line combinations for long, so Zary could get a larger role again in the near future.

Flames' Connor Zary: Deposits game-winner
Zary scored a goal on five shots in Thursday's 3-2 win over the Rangers.
Zary has struggled to find consistent offense with just two tallies over his last 12 outings. The Flames shuffled their lines and had the 23-year-old between Jonathan Huberdeau and Blake Coleman for this game. Zary is now at four goals, nine points, 45 shots, 13 blocked shots and a minus-2 rating over 20 appearances. Fantasy managers in redraft formats should keep an eye on where he's lining up, but he's won't be a must-have player until he contribute more regularly.

Flames' Connor Zary: Snaps goal drought
Zary scored a goal on two shots in Tuesday's 3-2 overtime win over the Canadiens.
Calgary head coach Ryan Huska had demoted Zary to the fourth line during the previous game, but the coach moved the winger back to top line Tuesday. It was a prescient decision by the coach, as Zary gave the Flames the first lead of the game. He collected a fluky bounce and beat a screened Sam Montembeault early in the second period. The tally snapped a nine-game run without a marker for Zary. The 23-year-old forward has three goals and five assists through 13 outings.

Flames' Connor Zary: Draws assist in loss
Zary notched an assist and two shots on goal in Thursday's 4-2 loss to the Hurricanes.

Through seven outings, Zary has two goals, four assists, 15 shots on net, six blocked shots, five hits and a plus-2 rating. He's found the scoresheet in all three games this season, earning two goals, two assists, seven shots on net, three hits and a plus-2 rating. The 23-year-old forward saw 20:14 of ice time Sunday and should continue to be a key part of the Flames' offense, which has been surprisingly effective over the first week of the season.

Zary helped out on MacKenzie Weegar's equalizer in the third period. In overtime, Zary danced around the Canucks' defense and goalie Arturs Silovs to net the game-winning tally. The 23-year-old is off to a good start in 2024-25 as he looks to take on a prominent role for the Flames. He began the season on a line with Mikael Backlund and Blake Coleman, but Zary could get more minutes later in the year if he moves to center. As a rookie last year, he produced 34 points and 90 shots on net in 63 appearances while averaging 15:16 of ice time.
