Georgi Romanov: Becomes free agent
The Sharks didn't extend a qualifying offer to Romanov on Monday, making him an unrestricted free agent.
Romanov saw limited playing time with the Sharks over the last two seasons. Over eight appearances last year, he went 0-6-0 with a 3.88 GAA and .877 save percentage, and he'll have to seek out another contract ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.

Sharks' Georgi Romanov: Loses again versus Flames
Romanov stopped 25 of 29 shots in Sunday's 5-2 loss to the Flames. The fifth goal was an empty-netter.
Romanov is now 0-6-0 through eight outings this season, including two losses to the Flames. The 25-year-old netminder simply hasn't gotten enough goal support -- the Sharks have scored no more than two goals in any of his eight appearances this season. He's added a 3.89 GAA and an .877 save percentage in 2024-25. Romanov is getting a long look late in the campaign, likely to evaluate if he'll be an option to serve as the Sharks' backup next season, potentially behind Yaroslav Askarov should the team let Alexandar Georgiev walk in free agency.

Sharks' Georgi Romanov: Starting in Calgary
Romanov will defend the road net versus the Flames on Sunday, according to Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now.
After nine appearances, including seven this season, Romanov is still seeking his first NHL victory. He has stopped 104 of 114 shots en route to a record of 0-3-0 in April, including a 29-save effort in a 3-2 loss to Calgary on Monday. The Flames sit 30th in the league with 2.61 goals per game in 2024-25.

Sharks' Georgi Romanov: Takes loss to Oilers
Romanov stopped 30 of 33 shots in Friday's 4-2 loss to the Oilers. The fourth goal was an empty-netter.
Romanov's quest for his first win continues, though he did a decent job of keeping this game close. He's allowed just 10 goals over his last four outings (three starts). Romanov is still 0-5-0 on the year with a 3.86 GAA and an .879 save percentage over seven appearances. He'll likely split the next two games with Alexandar Georgiev -- the Sharks wrap up their last road trip of the season with a back-to-back with stops in Calgary on Sunday and Vancouver on Monday.

Sharks' Georgi Romanov: Gets starting nod
Romanov will start in Friday's contest against the Oilers, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports via Jason Gregor of Sports 1440 Edmonton.
The task of snapping the Sharks' seven-game losing streak will go to Romanov on Friday. The last three starts for the 25-year-old have been solid -- he's allowed seven goals between the three contests with a .914 save percentage. The Oilers present a tough challenge with Connor McDavid back in the lineup, but Edmonton is still without the NHL's leading goal-scorer Leon Draisaitl (undisclosed), perhaps lessening the challenge for Georgiev.

Sharks' Georgi Romanov: Struggles late Monday
Romanov made 29 out of 32 saves in Monday's 3-2 loss to the Flames.
Romanov cruised through the first two periods before his play collapsed in the third frame. He allowed three goals in a seven-minute stretch, which was enough for the Flames to turn the tide and steal the win from San Jose. With the loss, the 25-year-old Romanov has a record of 0-4-0 with a 4.01 GAA and an .873 save percentage in six appearances this season. While Romanov should continue to see some action in net with the Sharks eliminated from playoff contention, it is best to fade him in fantasy formats. His next opportunity to guard the crease is Wednesday in Minnesota.

Sharks' Georgi Romanov: First goalie off
Romanov was the first goalie off during Monday's morning skate, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports, indicating that he'll defend the home crease against the Flames.
Romanov was relatively effective in relief against the Kraken on Saturday, turning aside 10 of 11 shots (.909 save percentage). However, he hasn't been particularly sharp since mid-March, going 0-3-0 with a 4.21 GAA and .864 save percentage over five appearances. He'll have a favorable matchup against the Flames, as they're averaging just 2.58 goals per game this season, which is the third-worst mark in the NHL.

Sharks' Georgi Romanov: Decent in relief outing
Romanov stopped 10 of 11 shots in relief of Alexandar Georgiev in Saturday's 5-1 loss to the Kraken.
Romanov was called on for mop-up duty after the Kraken took a 4-1 lead in the middle of the second period. It was another passable effort from Romanov, but he is still searching for his first win at the NHL level. He's 0-3-0 with 17 goals allowed on 125 shots across five appearances this season, though allowing eight goals to the Kings last Sunday left a mark on his numbers. Romanov may get some extra action down the stretch for evaluation purposes, especially since Georgiev has done little to suggest he'll be part of the Sharks' long-term plans in the crease.

Sharks' Georgi Romanov: Comes up short against Oilers
Romanov stopped 35 of 38 shots in Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Oilers.
While Romanov took a third straight loss, this was a pretty good showing against a tough, albeit injury-riddled, opponent. Romanov is now 0-3-0 with 16 goals allowed over four appearances this season. Alexandar Georgiev (upper body) is day-to-day, so the Sharks have temporarily been forced to go with Romanov and Gabriel Carriere as their goalie duo, as Yaroslav Askarov is just coming back from a lower-body injury with AHL San Jose. The Sharks have a couple of decent matchups ahead -- Saturday versus the Kraken and Monday versus the Flames -- but Romanov is a clear fade behind an inexperienced and often leaky defense.

Sharks' Georgi Romanov: Slated to face Edmonton
Romanov is expected to start at home against Edmonton on Thursday, per Max Miller of NHL.com.
Romanov will attempt to recover after allowing eight goals on 36 shots (.778 save percentage) against the Kings on Sunday. He's 0-2-0 with a 4.97 GAA and an .829 save percentage across three appearances with the Sharks in 2024-25. Edmonton is tied for 10th in the NHL in goals per game with 3.23, though the Oilers are still missing Connor McDavid (lower body).

Sharks' Georgi Romanov: Surrenders eight goals in loss
Romanov stopped 28 of 36 shots in Sunday's 8-1 loss to the Kings.
No offense to Romanov, but this game went pretty much as expected, as the Kings continue to be dominant on home ice. Romanov has now given up 13 goals on 76 shots across three appearances for the Sharks this season. He may close out the campaign with the big club due to Yaroslav Askarov's (lower body) lingering injury concerns with AHL San Jose. Most fantasy managers should stay away from Romanov, as he's unlikely to have much of a chance to earn a win in the vast majority of matchups.

Sharks' Georgi Romanov: Starting against Los Angeles
Romanov will start Sunday's road game against the Kings, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports.
Romanov made two appearances for the Sharks earlier this month, going 0-1-0 while posting a 3.09 GAA and .875 save percentage. San Jose is playing the second half of a back-to-back set Sunday, so Romanov will return to the crease to face the Kings, who are tied for 20th in the NHL with 2.86 goals per game.

Sharks' Georgi Romanov: Loses first NHL start
Romanov allowed three goals on 29 shots in Thursday's 3-1 loss to the Hurricanes.
While Romanov took the loss in his first NHL start, he did well to keep things close. The 25-year-old has a chance to prove his value to the Sharks' organization while Yaroslav Askarov (lower body) remains on the mend at AHL San Jose. Romanov has allowed five goals on 40 shots over two NHL appearances this season. The Sharks' next game is Saturday versus the Bruins, which will likely afford Alexandar Georgiev a chance to return to the crease.

Sharks' Georgi Romanov: Expected starter for Thursday
Romanov is set to start at home against Carolina on Thursday, per Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News.
It will be Romanov's first career NHL start after making three relief appearances for the Sharks over the past two seasons. He's posted a 1.81 GAA and a .927 save percentage over those outings. The 25-year-old also has a 3.10 GAA and a .905 save percentage in 21 appearances with AHL San Jose in 2024-25. Carolina ranks eighth in goals per game with 3.24.

Sharks' Georgi Romanov: Makes season debut in relief
Romanov turned aside nine of 11 shots after replacing Alexandar Georgiev to begin the second period of Saturday's 5-1 loss to the Capitals.
In his first appearance of the season and just his third in the NHL, Romanov had the honor of giving up Alex Ovechkin's 887th career goal. The 25-year-old netminder is likely with the Sharks only due to a lower-body injury to Yaroslav Askarov, but with Georgiev struggling badly right now, Romanov might see his workload increase over the final weeks.

Sharks' Georgi Romanov: Promoted from minors
Romanov was elevated from AHL San Diego on Wednesday, Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Romanov hasn't appeared in an NHL game since 2023-24 when he played in two games for the Sharks. The team doesn't have any immediate back-to-backs, so Romanov may not get into a game for San Jose right away. Instead, he figures to serve as the No. 2 behind Alexandar Georgiev -- at least until Yaroslav Askarov is cleared to return from a lower-body injury.

Sharks' Georgi Romanov: Headed to AHL
Romanov will report to the AHL after being cut by the Sharks on Sunday, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports.
Romanov will now have a chance to develop his game with AHL San Jose in the coming campaign. The 24-year-old will be hard-pressed to earn time in the NHL this season with a crowded depth chart ahead of him. The Russian netminder appeared in two contests for the Sharks in 2023-24, making 29 saves on 30 shots, good for a .967 save percentage and a 1.01 GAA.

Sharks' Georgi Romanov: Guarding cage Thursday
Romanov will defend the road crease versus the Ducks on Thursday, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports.
Romanov played in two NHL games last season in which he faced 30 shots, making 29 saves without registering a win. Even if Romanov hangs around training camp a little longer, he is not expected to make the Sharks' Opening Night roster, especially with three NHL-caliber backstops ahead of him on the depth chart.

Sharks' Georgi Romanov: Needed in relief again
Romanov made 14 saves in relief of Devin Cooley in a 5-1 loss to Calgary on Thursday. Cooley was credited with the defeat.
Romanov's come on in relief of Cooley in each of San Jose's last two games, allowing just one goal on 31 shots in his first two NHL appearances. It's an encouraging, albeit unconventional start to the 24-year-old netminder's NHL career. Romanov has gone 9-9-8 with a .904 save percentage with AHL San Jose since coming over from the KHL prior to the season.

Sharks' Georgi Romanov: Makes NHL debut in relief outing
Romanov stopped 16 of 17 shots in relief of Devin Cooley in Monday's 9-2 loss to the Oilers.
Edmonton eased up after chasing Cooley from the game, though Romanov also put in a solid effort. The 24-year-old has a 3.14 GAA and a .904 save percentage over 29 AHL outings this year, so fantasy managers shouldn't be expecting much from him during his first taste of the NHL. It's unclear if Romanov will be given his first NHL start Thursday in Calgary.
