England vs. Slovakia score, highlights: Jude Bellingham, Harry Kane pull off Three Lions comeback victory

Gareth Southgate's English side scored late to force extra time, and Kane found the net to give his side the win

England overcame Slovakia in extra time to advance to the UEFA Euro 2024 quarterfinals after Jude Bellingham's dramatic late acrobatic finish secured 30 additional minutes for the Three Lions on Sunday during which Harry Kane scored a second. 

Ivan Schranz's first-half opener looked to have won it for the Falcons who did not face a shot on goal until the Real Madrid man's bicycle effort from Marc Guehi's headed assist which snatched a draw from the jaws of defeat at Arena AufSchalke. 

Phil Foden had a goal ruled out for offside while Declan Rice hit the post and Harry Kane headed wide when positioned ideally, but Gareth Southgate's men were seconds away from a humiliating exit before that moment of magic from Bellingham. 

The English looked much better after that and substitute Ivan Toney's clever header towards Kane teed the Bayern Munich man up to complete the turnaround in what could now become a famous round of 16 win.

It was pretty defensive from England after Kane's goal and although Slovakia had a sniff or two of goal, they were unable to build on their earlier strike and will rue a long-range effort which almost beat Jordan Pickford.

Southgate's Three Lions have been far from convincing so far this tournament and although this reaction was an improvement in the nick of time, it could easily have been a disaster without Bellingham's masterpiece.

Switzerland await England in Dusseldorf after dumping Italy out and the Nati will provide a much tougher examination than this Slovak side which will feel devastated despite an overall good showing under Francesco Calzona.

In a dramatic turnaround, the English now lead through their talisman and captain Harry Kane. Substitute Ivan Toney tees the Bayern Munich man up by heading it across the box for Kane to nod home and complete the turnaround.

Jude Bellingham levels it!

Seconds away from full time in Gelsenkirchen and the Three Lions were about to be eliminated from UEFA Euro 2024 at the round of 16 stage. Up steps Jude Bellingham with an acrobatic finish to equalize and suddenly force extra time when it looked as if it would be a historically bad defeat for the English without a shot on target over 90 minutes.

Rice off the woodwork!

England go so close and Rice's effort comes off the post and Kane is unable to finish the rebound. Despterate times call for desperate measures and the Three Lions are starting to throw the kitchen sink at Slovakia.

Not even a registered shot on target after 75 minutes with Slovakia's only one going in. This is desperate stuff from the Three Lions despite all the talent in the squad.

Saka at left back

After Trippier took a knock following Pekarik's challenge earlier, Saka has now been asked to fill in at left back alongside Guehi. England are searching for an equalizer with one of their main attacking outlets now being asked to play in defense. Cole Palmer is on, though, to provide a greater goal threat while the booked Kucka also got away with a nasty challenge on Rice moments ago having fouled Mainoo. Still 1-0 to Slovakia who only need to hang on for around 20 more minutes.

England almost down 2-0

A wild moment, that. Jordan Pickford in all sorts of trouble as David Strelec tries his luck from the middle of the field inside the center circle. The England goalkeeper was far off his line and encouraged that effort but was fortunate that it just dropped wide.

England immediately have a goal ruled out at the start of the second half. Kane to Tripper for Foden to sweep home but the goal is ruled out for offside. It did look off in real time and the replay confirmed it. Slovakia still lead by a goal to nil and Southgate's boys have it all to do at Arena AufSchalke.
