2025 Women's March Madness scores: UConn, South Carolina dominate in Final Four to reach national championship

There was a lot of hype heading into the 2025 Women's Final Four, but South Carolina and UConn turned Friday into a rather uneventful night. The reigning champion Gamecocks cruised past the Texas Longhorns before the Huskies recorded the biggest Final Four win in history over the No. 1 overall seed UCLA Bruins.

Now, the national championship game is set: No. 1 South Carolina vs. No. 2 UConn in a rematch of the 2022 edition, which the Gamecocks won. On Sunday, South Carolina will hope to become the first team since UConn (2013-16) to repeat as national champions, while UConn has its eyes on its first trophy since 2016 and a record 12th overall.

South Carolina opened Friday with a statement win, routing Texas 74-57 thanks to an excellent defensive effort. Freshman star Joyce Edwards had her best game of the tournament for South Carolina with 13 points, 11 rebounds and six assists, while Te-Hina Paopao knocked down three 3-pointers en route to a team-high 14 points.

In the second game of the double-header, UConn jumped out to a double-digit lead after the first quarter and never looked back. Their 85-51 win looked more like a second-round game than a Final Four contest. Sarah Strong led the way with 22 points and eight rebounds, while Azzi Fudd scored 19 points, all in the first half.

FINAL: UConn 85 -- UCLA 51

The Huskies are on to the national championship game after a dominant performance against the No. 1 overall seed Bruins. With their 34-point win, the Huskies broke their own record for the biggest win in a Final Four game.

Perhaps the most remarkable aspect of this game was that UConn won so easily despite a 7 of 17 shooting performance. She got plenty of help from Sarah Strong and Azzi Fudd, though. Those two combined for 41 points, eight rebounds, three steals and four assists. Jana El Alfy also had a strong game battling against Lauren Betts in the post.

UConn will now face South Carolina on Sunday in a rematch of the 2022 national championship game. The Gamecocks won that one, and the Huskies will be out for revenge. The Huskies have not won it all since 2016, and Bueckers is looking for the first trophy of her career.

FINAL: South Carolina 74 -- Texas 57

The defending champion Gamecocks are heading back to the national championship game after cruising past the Longhorns with a dominant second half. After trailing by eight early, the Gamecocks took a three-point lead into the break, then outscored the Longhorns by 14 in the second half.

Freshman star Joyce Edwards led the way with 13 points, 11 rebounds and six assists off the bench, and the Gamecocks had seven players score at least six points. As a team, they shot 50.9% from the field, which was their most efficient outing since the first round.

They will play the winner of UCLA vs. UConn on Sunday afternoon.

Bueckers checks out

After back-to-back-to-back 30-point games, Paige Bueckers had a rough shooting night in this one at 7 of 17 from the field. She got plenty of help from Azzi Fudd and Sarah Strong, though, and will be well rested and extra motivated for the national championship on Sunday. Her first title is now within reach

Strong matches Moore, Bueckers

Sarah Strong is up to 20 points on the night, which is her 14th 20-point game of the season. That has brought her into a tie with Maya Moore and Paige Bueckers for the most 20-point games in a season by a UConn freshmen in the last 25 years. Not bad company

Third quarter: UConn 60 -- UCLA 37

UConn is on cruise control. They're dominating in all aspects and have built a 23-point lead heading into the fourth quarter. This one is all but over and the Huskies are 10 minutes away from a date with South Carolina on Sunday in the national championship -- a rematch of the 2022 title game, which the Gamecocks won

UConn cruising along

Doesn't feel like the Huskies have even played all that well in the third quarter, and they've still managed to extend their lead slightly to 22 points. UCLA keeps turning the ball over and can't buy a shot aside from when Lauren Betts works her way inside.
