ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) Michael Eley scored 24 points and Giovanni Emejuru hit a go-ahead layup with 18 seconds remaining as Siena beat Holy Cross 73-71 in a season opener on Monday night.

Eley had 11 rebounds for the Saints. Zek Tekin added 16 points while shooting 5 for 10 (1 for 3 from 3-point range) and 5 of 7 from the free throw line, and they also had three steals. Giovanni Emejuru had 11 points and shot 4 of 8 from the field and 3 for 5 from the line.

Bo Montgomery finished with 17 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals for the Crusaders. Joe Nugent added 12 points for Holy Cross. DeAndre Williams also had 11 points and four assists.


Both teams next play Saturday. Siena visits Richmond and Holy Cross goes on the road to play Georgetown.
