NORFOLK, Va. (AP) Jamarii Thomas scored 20 points as Norfolk State beat Penn State-Wilkes Barre 102-55 on Monday night in a season opener for both teams.

Thomas had seven rebounds and four steals for the Spartans. Kuluel Mading scored 15 points while shooting 6 of 8 from the field and 2 for 6 from the line, and added seven rebounds. Allen Betrand had 12 points and was 4 of 5 shooting and 3 of 4 from the free throw line.

The Nittany Lions were led in scoring by Anton Berga, who finished with nine points. Penn State-Wilkes Barre also got eight points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals from Jalen Willis. In addition, Chase Monroe had eight points.


Norfolk State plays Thursday against Apprentice at home.
