College football's first condensed 15-day transfer portal window is officially underway, and if Day 1 was any indication, the pace isn't slowing anytime soon. More than 3,700 Division I scholarship players entered the portal Friday, kicking off a wave of movement.

Make no mistake -- the 2026 cycle has been churning for quite some time. Behind the scenes, portal boards have been set for months. Agents are working phones. As one source put it, "Deals are being struck."

The new 15-day winter window (Jan. 2–16), the elimination of the spring window and revised rules tied to coaching changes were designed to streamline the process. Instead, they've compressed the chaos -- and pushed much of the action to the front end, with visits ramping up this weekend and into the first full week of the new year.

USC quarterback Husan Longstreet is expected to enter the transfer portal after one season with the Trojans, he announced. A former five-star recruit and the No. 4 quarterback nationally in the 2025 cycle, Longstreet appeared in four games as a true freshman. He completed 13 of 15 passes for 103 yards and a touchdown, while adding 76 rushing yards and two scores, leaving with four years of eligibility remaining.

Washington quarterback Demond Williams Jr. will be back on the field for the Huskies next season, after all. On the heels of a two-day saga that followed an announcement to enter the transfer portal mere days after signing a contract to return to the Huskies for the 2026 campaign, Williams reversed course Thursday.

Alabama wide receiver Isaiah Horton reportedly plans to enter the transfer portal after a productive 2025 season. The 6-foot-4 redshirt junior totaled 42 receptions for 511 yards and a team-high eight touchdowns, starting 11 games. A former Miami transfer and four-star recruit, Horton was once projected as a potential 2026 NFL Draft pick before opting to explore new opportunities.

Former Florida quarterback DJ Lagway has committed to Baylor, sources confirmed to CBS Sports' Chris Hummer. The former No. 1 quarterback in the Class of 2024 immediately becomes the highest-regarded recruit to ever land in Waco, Texas.

Lagway is a Baylor legacy and went to Willis High School, northwest of Houston. He rates as the No. 15 overall player and No. 5 quarterback in the transfer portal after playing two seasons with the Gators. 

As a freshman, Lagway came off the bench and helped lead a four-game winning streak at Florida to end the 2024 season. The strong finish helped save former coach Billy Napier's job, at the time. However, Lagway dealt with multiple injuries during the 2025 season, ultimately finishing with 14 touchdowns to 12 interceptions.

The college football transfer portal will officially open Jan. 2 and with it should come a flurry of activity, big-money deals and roster transformations. 

There is more pressure than ever this time around with the spring portal period disbanded in favor of a sole winter period that runs from Jan. 2 through Jan. 16. It's why this year's winter portal could resemble what we see with NFL free agency with many of the best options coming off the board quickly for big money deals. 

There was a belief a year ago that with the passing of the House settlement and introduction of the College Sports Commission as an enforcement arm that last year may have been the Golden Age for big paydays. With a $20.5 million revenue share cap and a promise for stricter enforcement of NIL deals, the idea was that prices would come down this cycle as teams could no longer double dip between unlimited collective money and the rev share. For a variety of reasons, however, that hasn't proven to be the case. 

In some cases, even, prices have doubled.
