  • Braves' Gio Urshela: Launches homer

Urshela went 2-for-4 with a solo home run during Sunday's 4-2 loss to Kansas City. Urshela provided Atlanta's lone extra-base hit Sunday, tagging Alec Marsh for a solo homer in the third inning. In 34 games with Atlanta, Urshela has slashed .264/.281/.432 with four home runs, 14 RBI and nine runs across 128 plate appearances.

  • Braves' Gio Urshela: Swats seventh homer

Urshela went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Saturday's 6-2 win over the Marlins. He capped the scoring on the afternoon by taking Lake Bachar deep in the seventh inning. Urshela hasn't replaced the offense lost when Austin Riley (hand) was sidelined in mid-August, but he's been a solid defender at third base and has slashed .252/.273/.374 through 29 games for Atlanta with two of his seven homers on the season.

  • Braves' Gio Urshela: Back in lineup

Urshela (groin) is batting ninth and playing third base Friday against the Phillies. Urshela had been absent from the starting lineup in back-to-back games due to minor groin soreness. However, he's been given the green light to play Friday. In eight games since being picked up by Atlanta to fill in for Austin Riley (hand) at third base, Urshela has gone 9-for-31 (.290) with two RBI and a run scored.

  • Braves' Gio Urshela: Getting night off

Urshela is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game in Minnesota. Urshela had made eight straight starts after joining Atlanta's roster Aug. 20 but will get a breather during Wednesday's series finale. Luke Williams is receiving a rare start at third base.

  • Braves' Gio Urshela: Handling everyday role

Urshela will start at third base and bat eighth in Monday's game against the Twins. Since finalizing a one-year contract with Atlanta last Tuesday, Urshela has quickly settled into an everyday role at third base. He'll draw a seventh consecutive start Monday after going 6-for-22 with two doubles, a walk, two RBI and one run in first six games with Atlanta.

  • Braves' Gio Urshela: Dropped right into starting nine

Urshela went 0-for-3 with a walk and an RBI in Tuesday's win over the Phillies. Signed earlier in the day following the news that Austin Riley (hand) could miss the rest of the regular season, Urshela was immediately inserted into Atlanta's starting lineup as the third baseman and batted eighth. While he didn't do much with his bat, the 32-year-old played steady defense and drew a bases-loaded walk in the eighth inning that provided an insurance run in a 3-1 victory. Urshela struggled earlier in the season with Detroit, slashing .243/.286/.333 in 325 plate appearances with five homers and 37 RBI, but Atlanta has a track record of picking veterans off the scrap heap and turning them into surprising contributors to a playoff push, with Eddie Rosario's NLCS MVP Award in 2021 being perhaps the most notable example.

  • Gio Urshela: Closing in on deal with Atlanta

Urshela is nearing a major-league contract with Atlanta, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports. Urshela was cut loose by Detroit over the weekend, but it looks like he's found a prime opportunity in Atlanta, where he would take over at third base for the injured Austin Riley (hand). The veteran infielder slashed just .243/.286/.333 in 92 games for the Tigers, but the 32-year-old entered the year as a career .277/.322/.423 hitter and Atlanta would be betting on a bounce-back effort.

  • Gio Urshela: Parts ways with Detroit

The Tigers placed Urshela on unconditional release waivers Sunday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. The veteran infielder was designated for assignment by Detroit on Friday, and he won't stick in the organization after passing through waivers unclaimed. Urshela posted a .243/.286/.333 slash line with five homers and 37 RBI in 92 games for the Tigers this season.

  • Tigers' Gio Urshela: DFA'd by Detroit

The Tigers designated Urshela for assignment Friday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports. The Tigers are poised to add prospects Jace Jung and Trey Sweeney to the roster and Ushela is one of the casualties. Urshela has slashed just .243/.286/.333 with Detroit this season while leading the team with 66 starts at third base. The 32-year-old should be picked up by someone, although there's a good chance he'll clear waivers first.

  • Tigers' Gio Urshela: Absent from lineup

Urshela is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest against the Mariners. Urshela had four hits -- including a home run -- in Tuesday's 15-1 win in the series opener before going hitless in Wednesday's 3-2 victory. He'll defer to Andy Ibanez at third base in Thursday's matinee.

  • Tigers' Gio Urshela: Big game in rout

Urshela went 4-for-5 with a solo home run and two additional runs scored in Tuesday's 15-1 win over the Mariners. Urshela had a fifth of Detroit's whopping 20 hits as a team, giving him his first four-hit effort of the season. The infielder raised his batting average from .237 to .247 in the process. It's been a disappointing campaign for Urshela, who also missed time earlier in the year with a hamstring injury, but the veteran is capable of delivering some useful fantasy lines when he's in the lineup.

  • Tigers' Gio Urshela: Resting Thursday

Urshela isn't in the Tigers' lineup for Thursday's game against Seattle. Urshela will take a seat for Thursday's series finale after going 2-for-5 and driving in two RBI during Wednesday's victory. While he rests, Zach McKinstry will get the starting nod at the hot corner and bat eighth.

  • Tigers' Gio Urshela: Reaches twice in loss

Urshela went 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI in Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Royals. It was a productive afternoon for Urshela, who's been struggling lately. The veteran came into Sunday batting just .083 in his previous 10 games. With Bligh Madris swinging a hot bat since getting promoted from Triple-A Toledo in late July, there is suddenly more competition for playing time at first base. However, even if Urshela cedes time to Madris at first moving forward, the former can also play at third, which is where he was positioned Sunday.

Zach McKinstry will start at third base and bat seventh against Minnesota right-hander Bailey Ober.

Urshela is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Guardians. Urshela will head to the bench for the first time since July 13, ending his streak of seven consecutive starts. Bligh Madris will step in for Urshela at first base.

  • Tigers' Gio Urshela: Hits key home run off bench

Urshela went 1-for-1 with a game-winning, two-run home run in Saturday's 11-9, 10-inning win over the Dodgers. Urshela started the day on the bench, but he ended up capping off a wild comeback win for the Tigers with a walk-off shot, his fourth home run of the season. The veteran has been heating up lately, as he's batting .351 over his last 10 games with two long balls and eight RBI. He should be a solid if not spectacular fantasy option moving forward.
