Player Outlook
Tyrone Taylor missed the first month of last season with a right elbow sprain and another six weeks around midseason with the same injury. He did finish strong after returning from the latter IL trip, slashing .283/.327/.573 with eight homers and three steals over his final 45 contests. The season in totality was a step down as Taylor posted a career-low 91 OPS+, although going 9-for-9 in stolen base attempts over the equivalent of a half season was a notable uptick. Taylor was shipped to the Mets in a trade over the offseason and will be in the mix for starts in left field and also in right field when the inevitable Starling Marte injury occurs. Even if the at-bats are there, the 30-year-old is best left for deep leagues.

  • Mets' Tyrone Taylor: Swats third homer

Taylor went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run, an additional run and a walk against the Yankees on Wednesday in a 12-2 victory. Taylor's biggest contribution was a three-run blast in the sixth inning that essentially put the game on ice, giving the Mets a 10-2 lead. It was the outfielder's first homer since April 24 -- a span of 42 games and 94 at-bats. Taylor has made two straight starts in right field with Starling Marte (knee) on the injured list, so he may have a chance to turn around what has so far been a quiet first season as a Met.

  • Mets' Tyrone Taylor: Starting against right-hander again

Taylor will start in right field and bat sixth in Wednesday's game against the Yankees, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. The right-handed-hitting Taylor has started in both of the Mets' first two games in right field since Starling Marte (knee) landed on the 10-day injured list, even as the opposition has sent a righty to the bump both times. DJ Stewart will also be in the right-field mix while Marte is shelved, but Taylor looks to be the preferred option for now.

  • Mets' Tyrone Taylor: Gets start against righty

Taylor went 1-for-4 with an RBI in Tuesday's win over the Yankees. With Starling Marte (knee) landing on the injured list, Taylor and DJ Stewart are expected to split reps in right field. Instead of using a strict platoon, however, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza elected to deploy the right-handed Taylor against Gerrit Cole on Tuesday, perhaps prioritizing Taylor's superior defense. The 30-year-old is making a case for a bigger role with his bat as well, batting .273 (9-for-33) in June with three doubles, a triple, an RBI and five runs.

  • Mets' Tyrone Taylor: Nabs fourth steal

Taylor went 0-for-5 with a run scored and a stolen base in Thursday's extra-innings win over the Phillies. Getting the start in center field and hitting leadoff, Taylor didn't have much success at the plate but took advantage in the eighth inning when he reached on a Bryson Stott error, swiping second base and coming around to score on a Harrison Bader single. Taylor has seen sporadic playing time of late as the Mets' fourth outfielder, and through 91 plate appearances on the season he's slashing .256/.278/.372 with two homers, four steals, 10 runs and 13 RBI.

  • Mets' Tyrone Taylor: Back in bench role

Taylor is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays. Taylor is back on the bench for the third time in four games after he recently wrapped up a stretch of five consecutive starts in the Mets outfield. All of Brandon Nimmo, Starling Marte and Harrison Bader are healthy and available, so Taylor will remain limited to a fourth-outfielder role for the foreseeable future.

  • Mets' Tyrone Taylor: Big day in Wednesday's start

Taylor went 3-for-4 with a run scored, two RBI and a stolen base in Wednesday's 9-1 win over the Pirates. Getting the start in right field and batting seventh, Taylor reeled off his second multi-hit performance of the season while swiping his second base. The 30-year-old has been outstanding so far as the Mets' fourth outfielder, batting .341 (14-for-41) through 15 appearances with a homer, three runs and 10 RBI, and manager Carlos Mendoza hasn't hesitated to give Taylor consistent playing time in the early part of the season.

  • Mets' Tyrone Taylor: Sitting in third straight

Taylor is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against Atlanta. Taylor recently completed a stretch of five consecutive starts, but his boost in playing time was a byproduct of the Mets facing a left-handed pitcher during that stretch in addition to Brandon Nimmo being limited by a hamstring injury. With Nimmo having since returned to his usual spot in left field and the Mets set to face a third consecutive right-handed starting pitcher Thursday, Taylor has now found himself on the bench for each of those contests.

  • Mets' Tyrone Taylor: Gets fifth consecutive start

Taylor will start in right field and bat seventh in Sunday's game against the Reds, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Taylor will draw his fifth straight start Sunday, but he still doesn't look as though he'll be in store for a regular role with the Mets. Before Sunday, each of his prior three starts came while Brandon Nimmo was limited to designated-hitter duties or held out of the lineup as he managed a hamstring issue, but Nimmo is back in left field for the series finale in Cincinnati. The righty-hitting Taylor will stick in the lineup versus southpaw Andrew Abbott on Sunday while Starling Marte gets a day out of the field and occupies the DH spot, but Taylor's opportunities against right-handed pitching are still likely to be limited now that Nimmo is healthy again.

  • Mets' Tyrone Taylor: Swipes first bag of 2024

Taylor went 2-for-8 with a walk, an RBI and a stolen base across both games of Thursday's doubleheader split with the Tigers. The 30-year-old wound up starting both ends of the twin bill, getting the nod in center field and batting eighth in the matinee before shifting to left field and hitting sixth in the nightcap. There were right-handers on the mound in both games for Detroit, which is an encouraging sign Taylor won't be limited to a short-side platoon role this season as the top outfielder off the bench for the Mets. Through four appearances to begin the 2024 campaign, he's batting .214 (3-for-14) and is still looking for his first extra-base hit.

  • Mets' Tyrone Taylor: Pops first spring homer

Taylor went 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI in Saturday's Grapefruit League game against the Astros. The former Brewer launched a solo shot off J.P. France in the first inning, giving Taylor his first homer of the spring. The 30-year-old is ticketed for a bench spot this season with the Mets and has had a solid camp, batting .296 (8-for-27) with a 2:5 BB:K. Should Taylor get significant playing time in 2024, which isn't out of the question given that neither Starling Marte nor Harrison Bader have played more than 120 games in any of the past three seasons, he could deliver some useful power and speed for fantasy GMs, but his career .239/.294/.451 slash line in the majors highlights his limitations.

  • Mets' Tyrone Taylor: Avoids arbitration with NYM

Taylor signed a one-year, $2.025 million contract with the Mets on Thursday, avoiding arbitration, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. Taylor arrived in New York with Adrian Houser through a trade that sent Coleman Crow (elbow) to Milwaukee in December. Taylor slashed .239/.294/.451 in five seasons with the Brewers and projects to serve as a fourth outfielder for the Mets -- much like he was in Milwaukee.

  • Mets' Tyrone Taylor: Heads to Mets in trade

The Mets acquired Taylor and Adrian Houser from the Brewers on Wednesday in exchange for Coleman Crow (elbow), Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. Taylor became expendable for the Brewers when they secured top outfield prospect Jackson Chourio to a pre-debut eight-year, $82 million contract earlier this month. Elbow troubles limited Taylor to 81 major-league games in 2023 and he batted just .234 with a .267 on-base percentage across 243 plate appearances when healthy. The 29-year-old projects to function as a fourth outfielder and bench bat in Queens.

  • Brewers' Tyrone Taylor: Returns to lineup

Taylor (hamstring) is starting in right field and batting ninth Sunday versus Miami. Taylor missed three consecutive starts after tweaking his hamstring, but he was able to make a pinch-hit appearance during Saturday's loss to the Marlins. Now fully recovered, Taylor will look to stay hot, as he's slashing .305/.339/.610 with four homers and 12 RBI since the start of September.

  • Brewers' Tyrone Taylor: Remains out Saturday

Taylor (hamstring) isn't starting Saturday against the Marlins. Hamstring problems have kept Taylor out of the Brewers' lineup for each of their last two games, and the team will continue to play it safe as it looks to clinch a division title Saturday. Sal Frelick will shift to right field in Taylor's absence while Blake Perkins starts in center field and bats ninth.

  • Brewers' Tyrone Taylor: Homers twice Wednesday

Taylor went 2-for-4 with a pair of solo home runs in Wednesday's 8-2 win over the Cardinals. Taylor's had a down year in the power department -- he's up to nine homers and a .438 slugging percentage across 75 contests. He's hit four of his homers and added six of his 14 doubles this season in 17 September games. The outfielder is batting .233 with 30 RBI, 34 runs scored and nine stolen bases over 222 plate appearances. He continues to split time between right field and left field.

  • Brewers' Tyrone Taylor: Belts seventh homer

Taylor went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run scored against the Nationals in Saturday's 9-5 victory. Taylor belted a solo shot to left field in the fourth inning to give the Brewers a 4-1 lead. The long ball extended his modest hitting streak to seven games, during which he's batting .429 (12-for-28) with three doubles, two homers, seven runs, seven RBI and a stolen base. Taylor's recent surge comes after an 11-game slump from the end of August to early September during which he went 3-for-30 with nine strikeouts.

  • Brewers' Tyrone Taylor: Sitting Friday

Taylor isn't in the Brewers' lineup Friday against the Nationals. Taylor will get a breather Friday as the Brewers welcome outfielders Christian Yelich (back) and Mark Canha (wrist) back into their lineup. Taylor has slashed .325/.341/.500 since the start of September, so he figures to remain a consistent piece of a relatively weak Brewers lineup down the stretch.

  • Brewers' Tyrone Taylor: Homers, swipes bag

Taylor went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and a steal in Saturday's win over the Yankees. Taylor's leadoff homer in the top of the eighth gave the Brewers a 3-2 lead and kicked off a three-run inning for the team. He would then come around to score a second time in the ninth, this time on a William Contreras single after the outfielder singled and stole second. The home run was Taylor's first since Aug. 23, and he's now hit safely in four of his last five games. For the month he's batting .250 with three RBI and five runs scored.

  • Brewers' Tyrone Taylor: Sitting amid struggles

Taylor is out of the lineup Friday against the Yankees. Christian Yelich, Sal Frelick and Mark Canha will start across the outfield for the visiting Brewers. Taylor went 0-for-4 with a strikeout in Wednesday's series finale at Pittsburgh and is batting just .202/.242/.357 across 178 total plate appearances this year.

  • Brewers' Tyrone Taylor: Sitting out Wednesday

Taylor is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs. Taylor will cede his spot in the lineup to Rowdy Tellez, who is starting for the second time in the series while Mark Canha spells Taylor in right field. While starting in each of the past 11 games, Taylor has produced a .914 OPS, despite going hitless in 14 at-bats over the last five of those contests.
