The Blue Jays transferred Garcia (elbow) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Sunday. The Blue Jays announced Friday that Garcia would require season-ending surgery to clean up scar tissue around his right elbow, so it was only a matter of time before he was shifted to the 60-day IL to open up a spot on the 40-man roster. The right-hander finished the 2025 campaign with a 3.86 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 25:12 K:BB over 21 innings. Garcia is owed $7.5 million for 2026 and is expected to be healthy for the start of spring training.... See More ... See Less

Blue Jays' Yimi Garcia: Will undergo elbow surgery
Garcia needs surgery to clean up scar tissue around his right elbow and will be sidelined for the remainder of the season, Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reports. Garcia has dealt with an elbow issue since around the All-Star break and has had trouble getting over the hump with his injury, so the decision has been made to have surgery. It's a major blow to the Blue Jays' bullpen, as Garcia has been a key setup man. Garcia is expected to be ready for spring training.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Yimi Garcia: Seeking second opinion on elbow
Garcia is scheduled to meet with Dr. Keith Meister in the coming days to receive a second opinion on his right elbow injury, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports. Garcia was placed on the injured list July 5 after experiencing nerve symptoms in his right elbow, and though he had been cleared to start throwing, the 35-year-old hasn't been bouncing back from his workouts as quickly as anticipated. The upcoming consultation with Dr. Meister should provide more insight into the nature of Garcia's injury as well as a treatment plan, but even if he receives good news from the meeting, the right-hander's return to the Toronto bullpen shouldn't be viewed as imminent.... Blue Jays' Yimi Garcia: Still experiencing nerve symptoms
Garcia (elbow) continues to experience ulnar nerve symptoms and is returning to Toronto on Friday to be re-evaluated, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports. The right-hander was working his way back from an ankle sprain in mid-July when the nerve symptoms surfaced, and he's apparently been unable to make much progress in his recovery over the past month. Garcia was filling a high-leverage role for Toronto with three saves and six holds in 22 appearances, but his availability for the playoff push remains in question due to the lingering injury.... Blue Jays' Yimi Garcia: Could start throwing next week
Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Wednesday that Garcia (ankle/elbow) could be a week or so away from resuming a throwing program, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports. Though Garcia was placed on the injured list July 5 due to a left ankle sprain, the Blue Jays recently revealed that he had also been experiencing ulnar nerve symptoms in his right elbow. He received a cortisone shot last week to address the elbow issue, and the Blue Jays are still waiting for the injection to alleviate some of the discomfort before clearing him to throw. The reliever will probably require a minor-league rehab assignment prior to being activated, so he's unlikely to be an option for the Toronto bullpen until the second half of August.... See More ... Blue Jays' Yimi Garcia: Receives cortisone shot
Garcia (ankle) received a cortisone shot in his right elbow this week, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports. An ankle sprain sent Garcia to the injured list July 5, but he was recently shut down after experiencing elbow issues while ramping up his throwing program. The plan is for him to remain shut down for another two weeks, at which point the Jays will re-evaluate him and determine next steps.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Yimi Garcia: Shut down with elbow issue
Garcia (ankle) experienced ulnar nerve symptoms in his right elbow recently and has been temporarily shut down, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports. Garcia is working his way back from a sprained left ankle, but his rehab will be halted due to an elbow issue. The Blue Jays medical staff will evaluate Garcia in the coming days, after which there should be more information regarding the severity of the setback.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Yimi Garcia: Returns from IL
The Blue Jays reinstated Garcia (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list Wednesday. Toronto sent lefty Mason Fluharty to Triple-A Buffalo to clear room in the bullpen and on the 26-man active roster for Garcia's return from the IL. Before landing on the IL on May 24 due to a right shoulder impingement, Garcia compiled three saves and six holds and pitched to a 3.15 ERA and 1.05 WHIP in 20 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Yimi Garcia: Continuing rehab at Triple-A
Garcia (shoulder) is expected to pitch for Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday and could rejoin the Blue Jays early next week, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports. Garcia struck out the side in a rehab outing with Single-A Dunedin on Thursday, touching 97 mph with his fastball, and is gearing up for his MLB return. He's on track to rejoin the Toronto bullpen at some point during a seven-game homestand beginning Monday.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Yimi Garcia: Dominant in rehab debut
Garcia (shoulder) struck out the side in a scoreless inning of relief for the Blue Jays' Florida Complex League affiliate Monday. It's not surprising to see Garcia dominate FCL hitters, but it is a very encouraging start to his rehab assignment. The veteran right-hander has been sidelined since May 22 due to a shoulder impingement, and he'll likely be shifted to a higher-level affiliate in short order as he tracks toward a return to the Toronto bullpen within the next week or so.... Blue Jays' Yimi Garcia: Starting rehab assignment
Garcia (shoulder) was sent to the rookie-level Florida Complex League on Monday to begin a rehab assignment. He's been cleared to pitch in games after missing the past month due to a right shoulder impingement. Garcia will likely move up to a higher affiliate eventually to continue his rehab but shouldn't require more than a few appearances before returning from the 15-day injured list.... See More ... Blue Jays' Yimi Garcia: Completes bullpen
Garcia (shoulder) completed a bullpen session at the Blue Jays' spring training complex in Florida on Thursday,Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reports. Garcia began playing catch June 6 and has progressed to throwing off a mound. He's been on the shelf since May 24 due to a right shoulder impingement and is likely still multiple weeks away from returning.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Yimi Garcia: Shaky control in fifth hold
Garcia gave up a hit and walked two in a scoreless eighth inning Friday to record his fifth hold of the season in a win over the Mariners. He struck out two. The veteran righty has handled a heavy, high-leverage workload to begin the season, making 17 appearances in the Blue Jays' first 38 games, and it may be wearing him down. Garcia loaded the bases with nobody out in the eighth on a single, a wild pitch and two free passes before escaping the jam, very nearly suffering his third straight collapse after he got tagged for seven runs across his prior two appearances. He's issued five walks in those three games covering just two innings, and Garcia now carries a 3.94 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 23:9 K:BB through 16 innings on the year.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Yimi Garcia: Dominant start continues
Garcia secured the save after throwing a clean ninth inning in Thursday's 4-2 win over the Red Sox. He struck out two. Closer Jeff Hoffman tossed two innings in Wednesday's win over Boston, so it was Garcia who got the call to preserve the victory. Nine of the right-hander's 12 pitches landed for strikes, making it a fairly easy second save of the year Thursday. Garcia extended his scoreless streak to 14 innings to go with an 18:4 K:BB to open the season, and he'll remain a candidate for the occasional save opportunity in the event that Hoffman is unavailable.... Blue Jays' Yimi Garcia: Looks ready for Opening Day
Garcia gave up a hit and struck out one in a scoreless inning of relief during Monday's split-squad game against the Yankees. The veteran right-hander has been almost untouchable this spring, posting a 0.00 ERA and 9:0 K:BB through six Grapefruit League innings. Garcia has recorded double-digit holds in three straight seasons, and he seems likely to make it four straight as he gets ready to be the Blue Jays' top setup man ahead of new closer Jeff Hoffman.... Blue Jays' Yimi Garcia: Back north of the border
Garcia (elbow) signed a two-year, $15 million deal with the Blue Jays on Tuesday, Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Garcia, who was traded from the Blue Jays to the Mariners shortly before the trade deadline, ended the year on the shelf with elbow inflammation. The 34-year-old righty had a 3.46 ERA, 0.90 WHIP, 49:12 K:BB and five saves in 39 innings last year before his elbow started barking. If he's healthy, Garcia could work as Chad Green's setup man or even challenge for a share of ninth-inning duties.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Yimi Garcia: Out for season
The Mariners transferred Garcia (elbow) to the 60-day injured list Tuesday. Garcia was shut down from throwing Tuesday after experiencing a setback during a bullpen session, and his move to the 60-day IL will officially prevent him from pitching again this season. He'll finish the 2024 campaign with a 3.46 ERA and 0.90 WHIP alongside a 49:12 K:BB across 39 innings. Seby Zavala was selected from Triple-A Tacoma to fill the opening on Seattle's 40-man roster.... Mariners' Yimi Garcia: Gets 13th hold Thursday
Garcia recorded his 13th hold of the season in a loss to the Tigers on Thursday, allowing an earned run on a walk over two-thirds of an inning. Garcia issued an inning-opening walk to Austin Meadows in the eighth inning before retiring the next two batters, but Andres Munoz then surrendered a two-run home run to Javier Baez that allowed Meadows to cross the plate. Garcia has been charged with a combined three earned runs over the last two days and five overall in his last five appearances, a stark contrast to the four straight scoreless one-inning outings with which he opened his Mariners tenure.... Mariners' Yimi Garcia: Strong start in Seattle
Garcia recorded his 12th hold in a win over the White Sox on Sunday, firing a perfect eighth inning. Garcia was just acquired via trade with the Blue Jays on Friday, and he's been put right to work with the Mariners. Sunday's stellar seven-pitch outing was preceded by Garcia's Saturday debut, when he earned his 11th hold with a pair of strikeouts over one clear inning. Garcia figures to see plenty of seventh- and eighth-inning work now that Ryne Stanek has been traded to the Mets, and he should also be in line for an occasional save opportunity on days Andres Munoz is unavailable.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Yimi Garcia: Headed to Seattle
The Mariners acquired Garcia from the Blue Jays on Friday in exchange for outfielder Jonatan Clase and catcher Jacob Sharp, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. Garcia has been one of the better relievers in baseball this season, posting a 2.70 ERA and 42:8 K:BB K:BB over 30 innings while recording five saves. He will be part of the late-inning picture in Seattle but will likely be behind Andres Munoz in the pecking order for saves.... See More ... See Less
